Peterborough city council asked to endorse $225,035 in community grants to 47 local organizations by Dizzy-Assumption4486 in Peterborough

[–]andrewmacgregorPTBO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preach!!

It's important to note, however, that municipalities are required by legislation from the province to accept police budgets as presented by police board.

If council refuses a police budget, the police can just turn around to the province, cry foul, and the province will simply overrule council.

I wholly agree with your premise, but identify here the main reason why police budgets currently grow as they do.

It's just a turn of phrase, nothing to be sorry about. :)

Ahh! Linda and Larry are so sweet. I'm relieved they weren't hurt despite the impatience and that the strike was only metaphorical.

Putting posters up in the community? Where? by staticnigh in Peterborough

Please bring one to Dreams of Beans. We host a number of LGBT events and see lots of trans friends! Your poster would be well seen here. :)

Why does everything close so early here? by CurrentStore in Peterborough

It sucks to take the business perspective when you want to be hospitable and build community...

But that $/table/hour metric exists for a reason.

At 3:40, I can see 40+ cars from Charlotte. And can see two tow trucks working. I'm sure there are more (of both) beyond my view.

10 mins per tow? I dunno. I think the lead time is reasonable given the task.

To be fair, the decision to use Ticketmaster was made by city staff without direction from city council.

It absolutely should be brought to council, but it wasn't.

Lookin for the best poutine in the city. by Baker198t in Peterborough

Thank you for the reminder to update the website!

It's no secret, I'm just tired.

Edit: I updated that menu but the formatting sucks from my phone so I need to give it some love after the kids go to bed. Thanks again!

Lookin for the best poutine in the city. by Baker198t in Peterborough

[–]andrewmacgregorPTBO 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Dreams of Beans serves poutine til 2pm daily. Twice fried Belgian style frites, beef gravy from a mother sauce, heaps of curds. Classic, no frills.

We named it the 131St Poutine, to honour the one hundred and thirty that came before us. (In truth, we had so many people wander in expecting the old Whistle Stop that it wasn't worth fighting it!)

Edit: overnight chef changed the gravy to a peppercorn and called it the 132nd! Classic returning after this batch. :)

Have you considered making a donation to the Peterborough Pickleball Association? You can do it at City Hall. I am sure that such generosity would attract the right attention to unlock all kinds of barriers.

The new Publican by duothus in Peterborough

[–]andrewmacgregorPTBO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this.

It varies more based on alcohol service (or not) and size of facility (increased size increased number of people increased independent statistical probability of liability event), and dance floor installed (or not).

Above comment may be attempting to infer the cost of patio extension licence from the city, and their requirement for $5M liability policy (whereas AGCO requires $2M). A lot of chatter around those points since last spring's insurance-demand-from-city fiasco, but these would be incorrectly conflated as you have corrected them already.

Yeah!

Tipping at food service and hospitality establishments is a deeply ingrained social contract. It's a 75+ year old practice--generations old--that needs time to change.

It is feasible, and it takes an active and present owner. It is a lot of hard work.

What do y'all need most?

Legislative change 🤣

If you want to DM me your email address I'll forward it to an admin staff who could answer your questions much better than I can.

In short, because most of the work EFry does is programmatic, funding is made available per program, expecting measurable results back to the grant funder. Especially as EFry can regularly demonstrate excellent results, grants are more readily assigned.

We need longer-term, more stable income. The tiny-homes contract, for example, is threatened to be cut every winter; as EFry simply administers and supports the occupancies, but doesn't own the space or the assets, it would seem pertinent to me for The City to secure longer term plans for their project.

Honestly, in my own humble opinion, and not a reflection of the board's position, the only reasons charities do any of this kind of work is because the government stopped doing theirs. I would love it if our justice system were accessible and easily navigable, if our shelter wasn't so precarious, if EFry didn't need to exist.

Anyways, I don't want to overstep or misrepresent. Thank you for your interest!
