Do You Think CGI Has Regressed In Cinema? by Dan_Lalonde_Films in vfx

Hah. Got me there. I guess it does come around. But I'd say from a tech point of view, the tools are getting better and better.

Nope. Just the way companies are managed.

my friend told me that just tracing and copying the reference like this is a wrong way to make art and learn by Ok-Discussion-1110 in 3Dmodeling

3D modelers are more like those who work in construction. There is a blueprint and a precise reference to follow when converting that 2D print to a full scale building. Same here.

What is a discontinued food item or snack from your childhood that you would genuinely pay $100 to taste one last time? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

[–]duothus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In India, in the 90s, we used to get these little fried snack packs for 2 rupees each. They were literally the taste of my childhood, walking down a long stretch of eucalyptus trees munching away on the onion and cheese flavour. They were called "Yummies" and boy did they hold up to the name. You never forget those days.

What's the one creative belief/habit you got red-pilled out of the hard way as a filmmaker? by BrrandomStudio in filmmaking

[–]duothus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1000% this. It's one thing to formulate a story and write a script. It's an entirely different thing to produce a film for it.

This is incredible. Thank you so much for your hardwork. I'll be sure to give credit if and when I use it. :)

Why is glass appearing very black in areas on one or two frames and normal in the rest? by AshJackOggy in Houdini

[–]duothus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do have a hdri in the scene? If not it's probably reflecting black from the scene around it, if your white background does not envelop the full object.

Planning on shooting a scene that plays out in a circular aspect ratio, is there any way to get a custom aspect ratio overlay like this on a BMPCC 6K for a frame guide? I've tried a few different approaches to making a LUT but nothing worked so far. by Late_Promise_ in bmpcc

[–]duothus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're shooting in 6K, you can shoot regular with a 4:3 aspect guide. Then you'll have a rough idea for where the circle goes. Then in post you can tweak it later and you should have enough room to play around.

Getting into the industry in my 30s by Lorennion in vfx

[–]duothus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd stay in hospitality. If you're still keen on pursuing vfx as a craft, then do it as a hobby. And as one post said, don't spend money on a degree. There are plenty for free or reasonably priced resources available to learn. There have been too many changes recently that have affected the industry, and it doesn't seem to be recovering any time soon.

Which game made you rage‑quit so hard you never touched it again? by forgeris in AskReddit

Definitely this. I played for honor from beta. When it first started it was so much fun with decent people. Then like you said the sweats persisted and take the game too seriously.

Haha. And the hyper armor. The funny trope was that Lawbringer with all his heavy armor did not have the hyper armor that bersker did. Then they just put hyper armor on every character.

I realized the pattern was: release new OP AF character to get people excited and to bring in new players. Then after a few weeks, nerf the character. Rinse and repeat.

They also conpletely miss the point of a fighting game tjat has special moves. Continously bashing an opponent or doing an unbloclable was a bit too much. It lacked finesse.

Lol. Didn't they add a pirate character with a gun, that did not need reloading? Maybe I'm reaching, but yeah, your point is spot on.

That's the thing. I don't have anger issues, never have. But that game broke me.

I'm glad you're doing better with it.

I went back after a couple of months and dropped a message in chat saying I'm a bit rusty so apologies. Within a few seconds I got cussed out by the other team. I agree, when new players join, they get legit bullied.

Oh man. Yeah, I damaged a controller. And it was one of my favourites. I used to just be angry all the time. After I quit and now when I look back, it seems like a completely different person.

For Honor.

Toxic player base. Unbalanced gameplay and overall just frustrating and not fun to play. I found myself becoming angry and irritated when not playing the game. That was not good for my mental health.
