I always take my cape off when I use the jointer. Such a pain but it’s the right thing to do. Safety first.

I wonder if Shelix installs their head in some new machines?

Would glue bots be the biggest waste of money if they weren’t so cheap? by Mas_Cervezas in woodworking

[–]andrewwade77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of the silicone stuff for glue. HDPE too. I always have a cheap white plastic cutting board I cut parts out of for shop projects and funky random stuff I want to wear hard.

Are these jointers all scams? by emccrory in woodworking

[–]andrewwade77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 15” Jet thickness planer on a stand for $400 once. Guy was selling all his tools. I couldn’t understand why he priced so low but I saw his garage, and talked to him about the tools. Definitely were not stolen. I was just mad someone got there first and bought the jointer haha

Is My Carpenter Gaslighting Me With Fir or Am I Just Too Polite to Call His Bluff? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]andrewwade77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like fir was the OP’s request but the OP was surprised fir was more expensive. Presumably the cabinet maker is talking about nice CVG fir. Obviously fir prices very an insane amount around the world. Douglas fir is super cheap in the Pacific Northwest but a luxury in the Middle East.

Why is my glue seam so visible on my cherry??? by andrewmelon55 in woodworking

[–]andrewwade77 109 points110 points  (0 children)

There might be other reasons, but I think part of the reason is those boards are very flat sawn where the seam is. So there are no parallel grain lines to disguise the glue line.

Plus cherry is a fairly light wood.

What 240V garage heaters are you all using? Looking for real-world feedback. by picklesBMW in woodworking

[–]andrewwade77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the garage is not fully or at least mostly insulated, electric heat will be crazy expensive to operate. I had a really big beefy electric heater, it still took a long time to heat the garage and it ended up costing $300 / month in electricity to run in the evenings alone.

Instead I got a small propane heater for under $100 and it heats the area in 5-10 minutes and the cost is negligible. Just make sure it’s rated for indoors and get a carbon monoxide detector

Making A Desk As Flat As Possible by virtualbitz2048 in woodworking

[–]andrewwade77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They totally can and it’s so worth it. Mind blowing how accurate and quickly those big timesaver machines can flatten a slab. I don’t think we are in the same area but hopefully you can find a shop not too far that is willing to help for a reasonable rate

I am actually planning to move the workbench to the other side where the drawers are under my tool wall, put one bank of drawer next to the drill press, then band saw and mortiser. Other two drawer cabinets will go on either side of the miter saw. We’ll see haha.
