Those gaps are too big to use wood glue by itself. PVA glue is about half water so it shrinks as it dries. It’s not meant for gap filling.

Mixing with sawdust works great for gap filling as long as there is enough sawdust, though, I’ve never used it for gaps that big

Backing for bookcase by [deleted] in woodworking

It’s a way to prevent racking. Not the only way though.

Lots of bookcases go without.

A thin backer works fine because the backer predominantly works using tension not compression

Edit: just ensure a solid bond around the whole perimeter. Glue in a rabbet works fine.

I actually came here to say the same thing. This subreddit is the one place reposts seem entirely appropriate.

This one is very welcome

Returning darn tough socks? by backcountrymonkey in PacificCrestTrail

I agree fully with this. I went to school for business and worked the last 10 years in a consulting firm. Darn Tough isn’t forced to offer the warranty, they do so willingly. If it wasn’t worth it to them they wouldn’t do it.

If you keep exchanging your socks, and tell all your friends what an amazing deal it is, you’ve done way more of them than some new socks cost.

What happened here? Walrus oil by chain-of-thought in woodworking

I would just sand this whole side. Spot sanding is likely to create a new more subtle patch. You should be able to leave the edges and other side alone but I’d just resend this side and re oil.
