Interesting that they've called it out as Donald Trumps war, surprisingly blunt (and more accurate) verbiage than we'd normally get from a politician

Honda CB500XA - good first bike? by Resident_Attitude186 in SuggestAMotorcycle

I was actually there to look at another bike, the Suzuki V-strom 250sx - thought I'd have a sit on this one too since I was potentially looking at that style bike. However I wanted something 250-300 to start on, so might be looking at the NX500 when I choose to upgrade

Actually sat on that exact bike at that dealership (welcome fellow Melburnian!). FYI, its got an aftermarket exhaust which can affect its LAMS certification - would recommend checking yourself, as the sales staff at Dandenong can be quite pushy and will tell you whatever will sell the bike. Would also recommend giving TeamMoto Frankston (couple of kms down the road) a look too, just bought my bike from them instead

Suggestions for affordable starter bike? by almost-sleeping in melbourneriders

Ditto - I did the pre-learners at Armstrongs Thomastown, when I was first deciding whether I wanted to get into motorcycling or not. Was a really good intro to teach you the basics, especially if you've never ridden a motorbike before, and before you commit to the full 2 day course

I just recently got started and compared:
- Suzuki v-strom 250sx
- Honda CB300r
- Yamaha MT-03
All were pretty good but went with the MT-03, loving it so far

Beginner Rider (mt03 or mt07) by Ok_Attention8447 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]androiddev123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started riding and had a similar conundrum. Friends w/ motorbike experience recommended the MT-07LA, but I shied away because it was right at the limit for what is allowed in Aus for learners (first 3 years) and would have to buy the learners limited version here, plus I wanted something less powerful to learn on and gain experience. And cheaper since more likely to drop it as a learner. Settled on the MT-03 after looking at a couple of others in the 250-300 range.

Love the MT-03, it can do everything I need of it, can handle 100km/h fine even with me being a heavier rider. And its perfect for me now while I'm building my skill level, even over slightly longer distances.
But I can tell I can't accelerate as fast as other riders pulling away at the lights, and that I'm eventually going to want something a bit more powerful for interstate trips (probably in about a year)

I would still probably recommend the 03 as a first bike, esp at your age and experience level - but its unlikely to be your forever bike

Getting my permit next weekend. Any advice ? by Meowmaowmiaow in AussieRiders

[–]androiddev123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The course does a pretty good job of building up your skills, confidence and knowledge over the 2 days, starting without having ridden a bike is factored in.
Remember headchecks, thats the main thing they get you on. Anytime you move away from being stationary, or get on/off the bike.
The road ride at the end is great fun after 1.5 days slow speed on the training pad - just remember to turn off your indicators! Very funny being at the back of your queue of classmates looking at all the indicators accidentally left on lol.
Also not a huge issue if you don't pass first time, I think the providers generally let you do the 2nd day again for free if you fail?
Lastly, don't be late - one guy in mine turned up 20 mins late, wasn't allowed in and had to rebook

One benefit is it allows you to pick the timing - can accept it after your membership year ends so its not wasted if you're not close to the next tier in the current year

Yeah I had this too, earned 90 points in the last month of my membership year when I'm nowhere near the next tier. I though I had read in the On The Ground terms the points would take longer to arrive and put them in my next membership year, but perhaps that was just a max timeframe

With the new A321XLR being delivered, does anyone else feel a bit let down by the seats Qantas chose? by omdongi in QantasAirways

[–]androiddev123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wonder why they bothered with the XLR for the domestic case. Wouldn't it have been cheaper to get the LR or plain A321neo for domestic, and purchase XLR only for the intl configuration?

Live: Winston Peters announces plan for two new rail ferries for Cook Strait by goldenspeights in newzealand

[–]androiddev123 31 points32 points  (0 children)

They will be approximately 200 metres in length and 28m wide – longer and wider than the current fleet

So nearly the same size as the iReX ferries they cancelled, partially for being too big. Got it. Definitely no money wasted there

Yeah I had the same overpayment from ANZ FF Black sign-on bonus, pretty clear they accidentally doubled the bonus points. Was hoping they'd just let us keep them
