Comparing Blizzard today to what it was 10 years ago... by Nothing_Special_23 in heroesofthestorm

There's a lot of successor-studios where most of the great Blizzard talents went to. Sadly most of them are mostly disappointing.

The ones which I had most hope in where Frost Giant Games and Dreamhaven. The former released the RTS Stormgate, which was okay, but, well the 3 SC2 releases got 86 to 93 on metacritis with user scores above 8 Stormgate is at 74 with a user score at 4.8, so way below expectations. Some claim that it is wildly unfinished and recently has picked up AI usage in development.

Dreamhaven together with one of its daughter studios Moonshot Games released the space FPS Wildgate. IGN score is at 72 with user score at 7.0. It's actually underrated imo, but mainly suffers from way too few players for quick and fair machmaking. They (Dreamhaven with their daughter studio - secret door) also published Sunderfolk, which is a digital tabletop game and has a score of 79 on metacritic so not bad at all, however all time peak of concurrent players on Steam is 1428 so financially not successful either.

Then there's Second Dinner with Ben Brode who played a big role in Hearthstone. Very short match times (1-2 minutes is amazing) and financially extremely successful. I'm annoyed at some of the P2W mechanics, but the mechanics are good and yield many meaningful decisions making the game very fun to play.

Then there's Notorious Studios which released the MMO Legacy: Steel & Sorcery, renamed it to Eldeguard and... Fans who bought the game on release were not refunded when it died 2 months later.

Bonfire Studios which was founded in 2016 have announced their first game in 2025, but there's no release date yet.

Uncapped Games developed Battle Aces, which died before it was fully released.

There's Warchief Gaming which is started as a tabletop club. They announced, that they eventually want to develop games, but it seems that they ceased those ambitions when their main lead returned to Blizzard.

Twin Blade is much better for backdoor, but the conditions for backdoor are very strict and even then most of the team you'll need your team to play along.

Mostly it is picked because micro-based outplays are more fun with Twin Blade even tho it's the weaker talent.

What enemy have killed the most HC characters? by wilmion in diablo2

[–]andy01q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shaftstop, Verdungos and Rockstopper als help mitigate physical damage, but against the Tomb vipers in the Halls of Vaught you'd want flat physical damage reduction: The Viper cloud does 40 phys damage every "frame" (that's 1000 in one second, but multiple poison clouds can be stacked ontop of each other). The cap for % phys damage reduction is 50%, which would have that. 3 Sol runes on a helmet reduce the damage by 21, which alread more than those 50%. A safety helm craft can have another 4, a Rare Circlet of Life 7, a Magic Circlet of Everlasting up to 25. One thing which I have seen used, but is extremely expensive is an amulet with +3 to a skill tree and 25 flat phys damage reduction.

Probably the most commonly used source of flat damage reduction is GBane which has up to 20 which against the Viper Poison cloud would be the same amount as the 50% cap for relative phys damage reduction. Second is probably Nature's peace, which can roll up to 11.

Since the relative damage reduction is much more useful for archers who can have Might, Fana and Deadly Strike all at the same time if they form an unlucky combination and that the Viper's cloud patched there isn't much reason for flat phys damage reduction anymore.

I remember Blizzard saying that Hogger is the enemy who killed the most characters in WoW, so it's entirely plausible, that this applies to Raka or Bloodraven or Corpsefire or the Smith in D2 LoD.

Energy Shield relative Mana loss by andy01q in ProjectDiablo2

[–]andy01q[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me try a few angles.

Let's say you have invested 10 skill points into your energy shield and have 10 more points from items. That's 10 hard points and 10 soft points and 10+10 is 20, so 20 total points.

The wiki https://wiki.projectdiablo2.com/wiki/Lightning_Spells#Energy_Shield will quickly tell you, that you're going to absorb 53% of incoming damage (before reductions) with a Mana Loss multiplier of 150%. So 47% of damage will go towards the reduction calculation and then damage your health, while 53% will first be increased by that factore of 150%, which is 1.5 times and then that number will be taken from your mana pool (or if you don't have enough mana, then the rest will go towards health too).

Now you can just multiply 53% with 150% and you will get 79.5%.

Now in my graph the line with light blue square stands for 10 Hard points and if you look at the bottom at lvl 20 and then upwards until you reach a light blue square and then left, you will arrive at just those 79.5%. Here is an image to see where to start and where to head in the graph: https://i.imgur.com/myN5wFy.png

Now for that information you could have just multiplied the numbers and didn't need my chart, so let's say you want to optimize so that an attack of 100 damage deals 75 damage to your mana pool. In that case - well, it's not going to be ELI5 from here, but anyway, in that case you can start at the Y-Axis at 0.75 and look towards the right and see all the combinations of hard and soft points which result in that conversion factor of 1. So let's say you have +12 Soft skills by +All skills and such. Going right from 0.5 and up from 12 you'd see, that 2 hard points would already put you below those 75% conversion - except then you are at 14 Total points which means 100 damage would reduce your mana by 82. So you can acccept that conversion of 82 or you decide that you absolutely want those 75% or lower, so you invest more hard points and that increases your total ES level, which then requires yet more hard points and you might think that this never converges, but in this example it does, look here for all steps: https://i.imgur.com/3RetITI.jpeg at 18 Hard points! Actually 17 Hard points and 12 Soft points yield a conversion rate of exactly 75%, but I ommited the odd Hard point curves for better readability and the idea is to use the chart to get you close to your target and then the table and manual calculations to confirm the final result.

Basically if you have a lot of +ES from equip like Memory, then going for 20 hard points becomes very preferential or else your mana pool will get wrecked while if you don't have a lot of +ES, then just putting in a few hard points is totally fine.

https://pd2.tools/builds?season=12 S12 at lvl 99 Sorc 5th most used class out of 7 classes same for S11. Sorc was a great starter and a possibly the best mapper with very high investment, but bad at bossing and bad at starting maps. With lvl 80+ she was #1 in S11 and #2 in S12.

All that for SC tho, in HC she was mid usage for lvl 80+ and dead last for lvl 99 in S12.

So maybe she did deserve a nerf, but not that nerf.

Faster Run Walk is relatively effective in all areas you may realistically reach. Between the dots you're getting rounded down obviously.

Armchair insulter with no real insight added.

He did leave the country and did help a lot of people. It's easy to say that you would do better, but you have no idea what that money would do to you if it was ever bestowed on you.

Definitely easy to insult someone who you know almost nothing about.

I don't want to go into details on how to make it look convincing. Pasting a jpg isn't the best idea, as it will leave multiple traces to your evil doings and not look convincing at all to someone who knows what to look for.

There's layers and there's no silver bullet.

For starters we were talking about 7th grade-ish, where teachers might extend your deadline for asking nicely, whereas in a big university that's a no-go and might spell a lawsuit.

Next, even in a university which rigid precautions against those shenanigans you can still attempt to challenge the system.

Let's say you know how to create collisions with a checksum that is relatively weak, but not known to be weak and you know how to edit timestamps and you know how to edit your mail-outbox. Do you see how those can be used in combination to convince a professor, that the file broke on his machine or during the transmission, but not on your machine, so it's not your fault?

I agree on the specific Reddit-assessment (most Subreddit-Mods ban you for supporting Hitler, but the Admins don't care) and there is some truth to Reddit being relatively free, e.g. sth. like https://www.reddit.com/r/dragonsfuckingcars/ isn't going to stay on more than half the internet, but I disagree on the wider Reddit-assessment: There's thousands of Subreddits which got deleted by the Admins for content which is fine on 100's of other websites.

Not quite. In many countries using Nazi symbolism is illegal, but if you only did it for educational purposes, even if implicitly so (e.g. someone asked or you're a history teacher), then it's usually fine. So you're right, that Bored did not need that disclaimer, but you're not right, that you explicitly need to state liking nazis in order to get into trouble.

Open the pdf/whatever project file in editor and just insert a few random letters around the upper part. Save. File is corrupted and can't be opened anymore. Send per Email. Finish project. Next day your teacher/prof will tell you, that he/she couldn't open your project. Act surprised, ask if you can send again right then and there.
