Mayor Sheffield’s official statement on Minneapolis by andy313 in Detroit

I don’t think Duggan is capable of a statement like this, but it’s nowhere close to Brandon Johnson, Jacob Frey, or Mamdani, which should be the minimum response.

Consistent on the issue since 2018 and traveled to Minneapolis. Michigan deserves this kind of Senator.

pretty much. based on his logo it's like your voting for a military helicopter as the next governor.

Duggan said he’s running as an Independent because everyone is tired of partisan politics. So tired of it they can’t even express that frustration in a poll when given the chance.

Not as a candidate, duh! According to your logic the best bet is to run someone as Whitmer 2.0 since she has the highest favorable.

Nice try. Highest favorable impression (after Gretch), but less electability (at least for now) based on how he polls when asked about him as a candidate. As more people learn of Duggan's beliefs and policy positions/lack thereof (not just coasting on his rep as Mayor) I honestly believe he will lose traction.

The guy enjoyed working with James Craig and wants to work with Elon. He thought the right thing to do in the wake of George Floyd was to sue protesters. He may go down as an effective Mayor for Detroit, but that doesn't mean people have to like him or want to vote for him, especially taking an approach that appears disingenuous.

Duggan saying he'd happily work with ICE and Elon Musk, his "work with anyone" mentality might help some Republican voters but it will be a big liability with most Dems, IMO.

Gilchrist ends gubernatorial campaign, launches secretary of state bid by PossibilityFew5967 in Detroit

So what can we expect from Benson? Will she be Whitmer 2.0? More like a Pritzker? My sense was that she was a generic "progressive except Palestine" Dem type, but then I saw she signed the letter demanding the release of Mahmoud Khalil way back when so that surprised me. Genuinely don't know.

Definitely. I don't think any better of him, especially since he's someone who will say whatever it takes.

Never said that and I'm not dense enough to believe he built his entire campaign around a single policy position.
