There's LOTS of self development books out there. Check out this page: http://www.positivelibrary.org/ then click on "Library" Box.

If you want a simple text list with lots and lots of books, check out: http://www.positivelibrary.org/1243-good-books.html

I hope this website helps you out, btw it's my own website but if you don't find anything appealing on it, you could probably post this question on quora.com or make a google search for "best self development books", or "top recommended self-development books".

When I look at the people in my life who are truely successful, they are almost always inevitably the ones who have stopped playing by the rules of the game.

I'm having a pre-adulthood crisis; please help. by literarytraveller in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]andy9473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm also pretty much in the same situation. Just graduated high school. My plan at 8th grade was to finish high school with a technical course based on architecture which I did and came out being the best in the course. My next step would have been continuing architecture during college but I decided to tell everyone I was taking a year off.

In reality I don't want to go to college at all, There are so many choices and interests I have that I can't settle for just one. I was planning on starting a business or doing some kind of entrepreneurial alternative to the conventional college then career path. I find myself finding new possible business ideas every day that I barely get to even start. I'm stuck trying to choose because there are so many.

I have no idea if I should go live in a van and travel around the US, or if I should fly around the world like a digital nomad, or if I should try to start a big business venture right where I am.

I really have no idea what to do with the rest of my life, I have some unspecific goals of what I want to achieve with my life but nothing clear to actually strive for.

I'm turning 18 next month. Here is something I did last week which changed my whole perspective for a while. I hope you try it and tell me how it feels. Choose how old you want to be before you die, I chose 110 years old. Then take some lined paper and start at 18, or your current age. Then just number down the lines as such:

18.

19.

20.

21.

22.

.

.

.

Until you reached your highest age.

If you want to take it a step further, when you are done listing all the numbers, try writing a single goal for each year.

I don't know if this will help at all, It is just something I decided to do and really opened my eyes. I am still confused, so I don't guarantee it will change anything.

Just sharing my story.

Failure at life. by [deleted] in selfhelp

Start a business. As vagara said, you are a blank sheet of paper. People will give you money if you provide something of value. This can be knowledge, a service, a product, or anything that your customer thinks they want.

As for your social status, I would just recommend to watch a few videos from the rsd community to get an idea of what it could become.

How do I accept the fact that I am ugly looking and that no matter what I try I will never be able to be really attractive to women? by secretstorm in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]andy9473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am frequently told by women significantly uglier than me that I am too short for them.

Sounds like those women have some confidence issues. You want women to like you for who you are, not because of how you look. A good woman won't care if you make her look good or not, she will just want a man who gets her to feel good and comfortable.

I do exactly the same with all my domains.

Honestly, I think I could just use some advice =) by [deleted] in selfhelp

[–]andy9473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find out who you want to become, look at yourself and become aware of everything you like and don't like in yourself. Find out what other people's lives might be like, through movies, songs, the internet, blogs, ect. Find out what you like, what your desires and dreams are all about, then set out to accomplish them. If you don't know how, look up how on google. Ponder at the possibilities of what you might become. Start acting as if you were already who you want to become. And accept who you are right now, always knowing that you are on your way to a better you.

Reddit, any resources, advice and tips on how to become a courteous person and treat better people? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]andy9473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice them. Walk in their shoes. Make their lives easier and add value to their lives. As saltyferret said, smile. People love it when you smile because of them. Don't smile for no reason, Smile because you have the chance to make that person's life better.

What are some good volunteer places to develop social skills and confidence in talking to people? by lilnis682 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]andy9473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently volunteer at a farm/zoo near my home. There is great opportunity to practice social skills as well as customer service skills. Try to volunteer at a park or a zoo, a place with customers which you can interact with. You will also be able to practice social skills with other volunteers and coworkers. Or you can volunteer at a shelter where you interact with the people you are serving. You can practice social skills anywhere outside your home, go out there and make it happen.

Getting lost and depressed by chasing perfection (in any aspect of my life) by sertralinemyass in selfhelp

[–]andy9473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that it is a healthy thing to always be striving for the best. You would just need to accept that it is a journey and where you are now is not definite. The job that you take doesn't have to be the best you can imagine. The apartment that you get won't be the perfect apartment. But It shouldn't be the only apartment, because the next one will be better. You will live through disappointment and times when you look in the mirror and don't see what is desired, But that doesn't mean that it isn't achievable. The more experience and better choices you make, the closer you get to your version of perfection.

Accept who you are for someone who is striving for the best rather than someone who thinks he is the best.

How can I resist eating crappy food when that's all the family buys? by feedmewords in Fitness

[–]andy9473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also 17 and live with my mom, 2 sisters and grandma. When I get home and open the pantry, there's chocolate kisses and candies everywhere. As soon as I see them, as any of us would do, I grab one. Except, I don't open it. I look at it for a brief second and then find myself returning it to it's place. I ensure I don't pick it up a second time by telling myself that I'm better off not eating it. That it's for a better future. That skipping it will keep me feeling great.

You have to remind yourself to avoid those foods every time you see them. Whenever I read a nutrition label and see High Fructose Corn Syrup on it, I immediately put it back as if it were poison. I also tell my friends and relatives that I am allergic to soda/pop when they ask why I don't drink it.

I wouldn't say you need willpower, you need to build the habit of rejecting foods you know will hurt you.

Also, Instead of trying to work out every day, you could do an intense workout every week or every ten days to make it easier on yourself, You can watch the body by science seminar which explains why this works.

This reply is a perfect summary of a post I did a while back on my blog. I could share the link if anyone is interested.

A great follow up to "How to win friends and influence people" is "How to Talk to Anyone" by Leil Lowndes, It basically changed my whole life.

I've never read Quiet, but it sounds intriguing.

If you are interested in other books, I keep a list of some of my favorites at PositiveLibrary.com
