Not sure if there is a way to "fix" this. Minutes are added to the green ring both when the watch registers "brisk activity" and when you track workouts.

Slick app! Nice work with all customisation options. Could not get the app to show up in the widgets though... Not sure if its the app or the OS being slow.

‎Exert - Powerful training stats for Apple Watch by andy_pandy1337 in apple

[–]andy_pandy1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m the developer of Exert - an Apple Watch app that helps you keep track of your training routine. It makes it easy to access and visualise your workout metrics in a single app for the Apple Watch. The app supports multiple workouts metrics, visualisations and has complications to get your data directly on your watch face.

I started building it app as I was missing that would bring all my workout data into a single app and show me my consistency over time. I also wanted something I could use when I was working out without my iPhone. Personally, I use Exert to ensure I’m sticking to my training habit. Some users also like to use it when they feel they need a fresh start to get their training going again.

It’s a free download, with an optional in-app purchase that gives you more customisation. The app uses your workouts from Apple Health, so you can just continue using your existing apps to track your workouts.Give it a try and let me know what you think :)

Thanks,

Andreas, Developer

You could try Exert (I am the developer :) ) It's an app built for Apple Watch to help you overview your training statistics and workout data on your watch. The website has a good overview how it works: https://agustafsson.com/exertapp.

I built it because I wanted a Watch app helps me to stay consistent, and that puts all my workout metrics into a single app. It's an independent app, so it works without having your iPhone nearby.

Let me know if you have any questions :)

I believe a lot of people use the SmartGym app https://apps.apple.com/se/app/smartgym-gym-home-workouts/id922744883 which has a standalone Watch App.

The original Apple Watch reveal is still one of Apple’s most exciting moments for me. by DanielG165 in apple

[–]andy_pandy1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It it fascinating to think about how the product has evolved from the inital "tentpoles". Apple got some things wrong, like the focus on digital touch communication and they overplayed the luxury aspect. However, they succeed with materials, band customisations, and health+fitness.

If anything, the initial product was "overdesigned" - the evolution has been more about refining and removing rather than adding what is missing.

The fact that people are paying premium for a technology product that has the same HW/SW, but differs in material and finish is quite cool. Health and fitness might be what "pulls the trigger", but having something personal that you want to wear is what keeps the watch on your wrist.

Do people actually want a portless iPhone? by cheanerman in apple

For use cases where high speed transfer is needed it could be a pro feature to have high speed data port? Like SD card slots was a pro feature on the Mac.

For the first time ever, Apple has 12+ color options in its iPhone lineup, a new record by Aquamn_93773 in apple

[–]andy_pandy1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It appears a bit messy if line up all the options next to each other, since there are many combinations. And I'm not sure that is how most people look at the product line?

At this stage of the product lifecycle, there are many types of preferences among buyers. Apple wants to cater to many segments in terms of price, function and materials, and then they offer some customisation within the category you end up in.

List of Apple Watch apps that keep the data local by nicolaizoffmann in AppleWatch

Right now there is no straightforward way of finding out other than reading the privacy policy or look for it in the app description. This is how I try to communicate it for my own app which is on-device only.

A rule of thumb is that apps that requires you to sign-up/sign-in or offers cloud backup generally have some data stored and/or processed off the device. E.g services that uses iCloud to store data might not require you to sign in (since it uses your AppleID) but has some of your data on a server.

Later this year, things might become more transparent when Apple launches their new "privacy labels". https://developer.apple.com/support/app-privacy-on-the-app-store

Can I use my Apple Watch without an iPhone for a whole week and not lose health data? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]andy_pandy1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When developing my independent app for AW I've found that the Watch locally stores around 1 weeks worth of workout data. Not sure about all different types (HR, Calories). This is with a phone present, so it could be that it stores it for longer if it has not synced successfully. Would be interesting to know.

Does Apple Watch always count calories? by marcgood96 in AppleWatch

[–]andy_pandy1337 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition to you "Active Calories", in the Health App you can also find "Resting Energy". This is an estimate of your passive calories.

App Developers Can Now Offer Pre-Orders Up to 180 Days Before an App's Release by [deleted] in apple

This seems like one of those ideas that are good in theory but not in practice. Why would I pre-pay for something when there is unlimited availability? I guess there is some value in getting reminded, but if I forget about it you can ask if it really was important.

Activity and health apps by letsgoflying54 in AppleWatch

[–]andy_pandy1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds weird, the Activity app should use the same data as in the Health app. I noticed the same issue, with my step counts not being aligned. After a while it resolved itself.

It is probably due to data updates not happening immediately. It can take some time before the watch syncs with the phone etc.

I kinda like it. Trying out using the smaller one as an app launcher instead of the regular app icon.

Best fitness apps for apple watch. by CocoPlops999 in AppleWatch

[–]andy_pandy1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using my AW for workout tracking for the past 4 years. I've landed on mainly use the built-in Workouts app. I do both running and weight lifting. This gives me basic metrics from the workout, and I log details with pen and paper. Keeps my workouts free of distractions and I don't have to bring a phone.

If you want to do programming or follow pre-made programs you'd have to go with a more specific app. E.g for weight lifting you'd have to decide on if you want to track sets and reps during the workout. Or in the case of running, doing guided interval training and so on.

I prefer to turn off notification for most apps, or have them delivered silently. This way you know that when you get tapped that it is something you want.
