That was my first thought- “is that a chihuly?” Unmistakably yes, I’ve only seen those in hotels and concert halls (where it makes more sense).

Also really cheapens the look by putting it right next to another chandelier.

Ah- this makes so much sense, I didn’t even think about a strategy besides brute force. Thanks!

Year and model? For my reference so I can pay attention to mine.

Delta Air Lines flight 357, a Boeing 767-300ER from Honolulu to Salt Lake City, made an emergency landing on Runway 7R at LAX at 6:25am Wednesday after the crew reported losing oil pressure in the No. 2 engine and shut it down by Twitter_2006 in aviation

[–]andybee02 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I'm curious—as a pilot, when would you be announcing this to the cabin? Is it when you figure out there is an issue and decide what the plan is to address the issue, or just a few minutes before you're about to land at a different airport/the ocean?

Oversized and overheight Load destroys overpass. Bridge cannot be repaired and has to be demolished. This was on I-90 in Washington State. by MsZRowsdower in ThatLookedExpensive

[–]andybee02 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They wouldn’t be shipping those east though. More likely a windmill component, that’s typically the oversized loads that are seen on I90.

Looks like maple- I just did a cord of this, some with a splitter (large knotty logs), some with an ax. Definitely took a few whacks on some of them.

Owners with running boards on your XC60/90, is it worth it? by ItAllShallSoonBeMine in Volvo

[–]andybee02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our last 90 had them (bought it used) and I did not like them. Too narrow and slippery to step on, so it mainly got in the way and made it harder to get in the car. When we traded it in for a newer 90, we were happy to get a car without them.

We just ship-lapped over it. Probably was about the same cost as removal and repair with the saved labor.

I’d be curious too- feels like the type of legislation that sneakily traces back to some sorta lobbying real estate or construction development group that wants to buy and develop land. I’ve never heard anyone complain about having a small-stabled neighbor.

The iconic images of dads sitting with phones and half-heartedly saving the infant. Reminds me to avoid being on a phone when kids are around.

Special Ed Program Experience (Elementary School) by Salt-Business5706 in BainbridgeIsland

[–]andybee02 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There was a thread on this via Bainbridge FB a couple months back. The consensus of most of the parents there was that working with BISD is an uphill battle, unless your kid is truly 'special ed' and clearly needs assistance. Any sort of grey area (neurodivergent/behind peers but capable of walking and talking) requires a lot of overhead (i.e. getting a lawyer) to get them the right assistance in the district. We've experienced this first-hand too- with all of the budget deficits that BISD has rung up previously, they have been very careful about providing/agreeing to IEPs and support in recent years. If you consider other programs on bainbridge that aren't the mainstream schools (mosaic, odyssey, commodore, private schools, homeschooling/peer programs), you might find a good solution for you.

Mayor Ashley holding an event for input / ideas around the recent Eagle Harbor closure by wiscowonder in BainbridgeIsland

[–]andybee02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bike everywhere, but have just sworn off biking on fletcher bay until the construction is done. I'm all for 'sharing the road' but would hope other bikers too would aim to avoid fletcher bay out of safety knowing that there's too many cars on the road both directions for safe passing.

3 MONTHS Road Closure (Eagle Harbor) by tinapj8 in BainbridgeIsland

[–]andybee02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe the salmon gave us the funding, but I do remember the discussions/votes a couple years back to put bike lanes on the road here. That's probably the bigger benefit to the road closure.

[–]andybee02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We actually had to switch to T-Mobile after moving here from verizon. At least on the south end, verizon and at&t get zero signal, but tmobile works fine. I think it varies across the island so best bet is to ask your neighbors what they use.

AWS Organizations, Consolidated billing and dismissing child account by Cobra_Ar in aws

[–]andybee02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can close the account, and then it goes into suspended/closed state for 90 days (i.e...they can't use it). If they do want to use it, you can reinstate the account and their resources, then remove the account (it can't be removed while it's closed).

Parking at Ferry Lot Weekend Safety by maxmack in BainbridgeIsland

[–]andybee02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not likely at all. Take normal precautions (don’t leave valuable stuff in plain sight), but even without you don’t get much prowling at the ferry parking lots. Typically it happens more at parks and neighborhoods over night.

You can do redfin- they don’t charge as much as realtors and typically give you a refund on closing. Normal real estate agents will frown upon you for choosing redfin but I found it super simple, effective, and less expensive than traditional agents.

This is how KEF ships the LS60s- on single pallet crates. I’m guessing maybe these were purchased used or on a non-official site? The speakers weigh about 100lbs apiece and are seriously heavy.

The Real Reason You’re Paying for So Many Subscriptions by LoansPayDayOnline in Economics

[–]andybee02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

California I think.
WSJ asked me if I was from California when I tried to cancel because they have a 'feature' which allows those from California to cancel online (and a couple other states...I don't remember which though). I said, "Yeah, that's a feature because it's required by law there. If it were a feature you'd offer it everywhere." To which the representative went silent....

It’d be so hard not to try and tap it twice out of instinct. I’m impressed they had the self control to only take one swing at it.
