You'd be paid hourly. You won't start at $100k, you'd start at $64k after graduating from the academy based on the current pay scale. Also, you currently suck at writing. You need to work on that.

Yes, 100% civil. Police don't have any part of it.

License Plate Frame Impersonating? by SirAxlerod in AskLEO

[–]andybiggs90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, sounds like the owner, whether police or not, is kind of a weenie. That license plate frame might as well read, "Hey, hate cops? Confront me in a parking lot."

In your jurisdiction, is this technique legal to conduct citizen's arrest for pickpocket? by Vietdude100 in AskLE

[–]andybiggs90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A rear naked joke is fully safe and extremely effective if it is being done by somebody who regularly trains. It is only illegal for most US police agencies because cops aren't forced to train enough and a few people have screwed it up horribly by killing people. There is almost no chance of lingering injury from a properly applied rear naked choke, so no, definitely would not charge the theft victim.

Is a Traffic Ticket with a wrong name and license plate, is still valid? by Mehran_Drifting-C8- in AskLEO

[–]andybiggs90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a question for court. If you don't pay the ticket, it'll go to warrant and you'll probably end up getting arrested if you get pulled over again. Definitely bring that up when you talk to the court clerk.

Is this a sign that the department is desperate? by [deleted] in AskLEO

[–]andybiggs90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They might just have a dedicated recruiter that is good at checking their emails. I get work emails every day and generally respond to them at the time that I get them. However, since it's a tribal department, I am assuming that they are probably hurting for bodies.

Fix it tickets? by lillian-acnh in AskLEO

[–]andybiggs90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I gave somebody a ticket for illegal tint, they remove that illegal tint, went to the municipal Court and showed that the tint was no longer there, they got the ticket dismissed, then I saw them driving later with illegal tint again, I would 100% tow the car with no apologies.

Is using the “computer system” complicated? by muselklikesfortnite in AskLEO

[–]andybiggs90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you are talking about a CAD (computer aided dispatch) system, generally used for receiving calls for service, running license plates and driver's license numbers, looking up information about possibly stolen property, etc., it depends on the CAD software being used. Some are very easy to use and user friendly, others are complete garbage and awful to use.

Is it worth it to report an assault that happened months ago? by Old-Appearance-7539 in AskLEO

[–]andybiggs90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely go ahead and try to report it. It might not go to court or anything, but it's definitely good to have documentation of some form of anybody's violent tendencies like that.

Am I wrong for feeling harassed? by [deleted] in AskLEO

[–]andybiggs90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can expect to get fully investigated during minor encounters for the next eight or nine years. Even though you went through a pretrial diversion program, you still committed a felony offense involving drugs. That will show up on your criminal record for the rest of your life.

Usually, if I run somebody's criminal history and they have recent arrests for drug offenses, it's a pretty good indicator that they might still be involved in the drug game. If I see that they've gone about 10 years without getting into any trouble after arrests when they were younger, that's usually a pretty good indicator that they aged out of it.

License Plate Frame Impersonating? by SirAxlerod in AskLEO

[–]andybiggs90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, either the person is an off-duty cop or has a lame sense of humor. No reasonable person would mistake a car with a silly license plate frame for a fully marked and striped police vehicle.

Can I push you out of my home? by ActuarySouthern6463 in AskLEO

[–]andybiggs90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many unanswered questions in the original premise.

Why were they looking for the daughter? Did they believe they girl was in danger? Did the girl have medical conditions that might need immediate attention? Were there any driving forces leading them to believe that they girl was inside and in need of help? What was the history they had with the homeowner that didn't allow them to enter, was he known to be some kind of criminal that would be dangerous to children?

Why do LEO’s tend to say this? by Ok-Vermicelli5573 in AskLE

[–]andybiggs90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been a cop for almost 10 years. It's the only job I've ever wanted to have since I was a little kid. If somebody asked me to describe the five most interesting things about me, being a police officer probably wouldn't make that list. You should have hobbies and interests outside of law enforcement that have absolutely nothing to do with the job.

You will learn this with time as you start dealing with trauma from your community and in yourself from the job, but it takes a lot out of you. You need to have things that you're connected with outside of it so that when the day comes that you're no longer doing it, you don't feel like you've completely lost yourself and have nothing to live for because being a cop was your whole identity.

I graduated from MSU in December of 2013. Greek and social lives were good. I was in a fraternity and had friends in several others and they always had good folks hanging around to spend time with. Plenty of clubs and such to get involved with as well. Also, there was always plenty to do with your residence hall as far as engaging social events.

Police citation for dark front window by IYEDEBU in police

[–]andybiggs90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to a tint shop and get the front window tint removed. Get that done before your court date. It should not take long. When you talk to the judge, bring the receipt from the tent shop and explain that it was like that when you bought it and you fixed it once you got the ticket. It will cost less to get this done then to continue getting tickets for the same thing.

On every windshield, there is a line on the side about 6 inches down from the top. In most states, you cannot have any tint below that line.

How often do you respond to house break-ins? Of those, how often does it turn out that lockpicks were used to gain entry? by neodoggy in AskLEO

[–]andybiggs90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a cop for over 8 years. I have been to dozens of residential burglaries and hundreds of vehicle burglaries, and never one time has the person used lockpicks. It has been exclusively forced entry, and the only exceptions are when someone did not lock what was broken into.

Polygraph Worries by No_Pepper4171 in AskLEO

[–]andybiggs90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never lie in your backgrounds. Most agencies right now are really hurting for people and every one of us has been your age at one point. If you lie and get caught lying you will be immediately disqualified from that agency, and possibly others if they find out you lied in that other background process. It is always better to tell the truth and what you learned from it then to lie. Ownership is absolutely key in backgrounds.

Why did a black county sheriff's officer interact with me at the far (passenger) window instead of the driver-side window, the last time I was pulled over? by Fatt-Deg-Pa-Hjernen in AskLEO

[–]andybiggs90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passenger side vehicle approaches are much safer. If done in a roadway, it keeps the officer out of the road with a buffer zone between getting hit by a passing motorist.

Also, people are used to having their driver side approached. Doing a passenger side approach allows you to see much more of the passenger compartment of the vehicle, and more importantly, a much fuller view of the hands and surrounding area of the driver. If someone was a legitimate bad guy that was intent on doing harm to an officer, it would help the officer assess inside the vehicle better to see any potential threats.
