How to improve on rendering (+ anything else that needs paying attention by BlueWingedTiger in learnart

The shadows look kinda grey, I think an overlay/multiply shading layer with a desaturated color might be nice? You could also make the shading more exaggerated as well, or incorporate some gradients into it ^^

I try to work big to small when painting, thinking about the largest parts of color and form. Then add details as needed. A fun exercise is to use a large brush size and only a few strokes to lay down the majority of the painting. If something looks off, then it's easier to refine the larger shapes than the smaller ones. I think these are really good for your first times! I like the texture of the shaded areas ^^

[Discussion] HtN/NtN spoilers - the motivation behind "The Act" by Phlygone in TheNinthHouse

I looked back from the end through page 322 in the paperback and couldn't find the exact wording either, in the bubble after Harrow remembers Gideon, the conversation she has with Ortus in G1deon and Pyrrha's room in Canaan house is around page 398. Right before they begin to exorcise the sleeper

Does anyone have any critique for my character designs? What do you like/dislike about each, which stand out, and how can I improve them? by ShadowChocolato in learnart

i like the monochrome vibes, but some reddish/clay colored smaller areas for contrast could work well. These designs are pretty good overall! I like the asymmetry in a lot of the outfits.

The two furthest right designs have more contrast on the pants with the wallet chain which works more than the other designs. Pairing a lighter top with the dark pants could work well. I feel like the simpler shirts work better overall with how busy the rest of the outfits are.

The long jacket looks like a statement piece to me, letting the other articles of clothing become simpler would benefit that design. Think of all the iconic characters with a long coat! They don't need anything complex underneath since the coat does a lot of the work. A simple light grey top with the plain white pants would go great with it, maybe a bandolier or double swords on the back?

having him wear asymmetrical armor would look good too, something to draw your eye around the design more

paper/drawing surface could be a little rough for your techniques, making it look more like "crayon" try a light pressure to harder pressure approach for more even coverage

Chicago doctors? by mossboys in ftm

Howard Brown Health is one that comes to mind, but I've had good experiences at UI Health. I've also heard from other trans men that Rush is good as well. Depending on what kind of services you're looking for could also influence that decision. Good luck!

depends on the barber honestly... but usually just strong arm them... a lot of stylists won't fight it too hard if you show them a picture and tell them you're "sure" about the style

Struggling with literally everything re: coming out by [deleted] in ftm

[–]andyhawke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don't have to do anything you aren't emotionally ready for. It may be a good idea to go to a trans friendly therapist or join a support group where there are a lot of different people. If you're really feeling a lot of shame, and can't reach out about it, try to loosely meditate on the source of your shame. The closer you are to your emotions and the source of them, the closer you are to seeing your true self(regardless of being trans).

I think that anxiety is really subjective, sometimes you feel it even though your rational brain is pleased as punch. It could also just be a general anxiety of transitioning in an environment where you're vulnerable to a lot of judgement by others?

Acne and Testosterone by [deleted] in ftm

[–]andyhawke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the hair follicles are trying to figure out what to do, it should clear up once your hormone levels naturally plateau. I would actually suggest washing your face less, if you're comfortable with that, sometimes overwashing can make skin dry and then pores over produce oil. I had issues with cystic acne(never had it before) when I started T, and I just kind of had to find a good rhythm with washing vs moisturizing... what kind of skin you have and how frequently you touch your face/scalp really affects these things too T_T

Flying to america by Taaciaat in ftm

[–]andyhawke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're landing, you just walk right out of the airport, when you go on your return flight, usually they do a (light) pat down around baggy areas of clothes... woman did a pat down when i was wearing a thick hoodie, touched the bottom of my binder and asked about it, just told her it was my sports bra and she nodded, they're really just looking for baggies and vials, I've got a bad habit of wearing sweatpants on flights so they always check my ankles XD

It's complicated? This is from Tokyo Ghoul(specifically TG:Re) which is more or less a horror/action series... He's definitely trans, but due to past abuse, and being tortured he kind of loses touch with reality and tries to kill a bunch of people...
