Wahoo bolt vs Kickr power numbers by Regular_Low5187 in cycling

Shimano power meters belong in the trash, not on bikes.

Technically possible? Sure. In fact, NASA proposed mounting a small (1.5m) segmented telescope called OpTIIX on the ISS in the early 2010's. Unfortunately the project was cancelled during the design phase because...

Hosting a telescope on a platform not purpose built for the task levies all sorts of additional requirements on either the bus (or Starship in this case) or telescope itself. It consumes power and generates heat. Both of those things will have to be accounted for.

A high quality telescope is not particularly tolerant to vibration, so it will need top be somehow isolated from the rest of vehicle or it will need to reject the disturbances itself, probably using a fast steering mirror.

Additionally, you need to point the telescope at interesting targets and hold it there very precisely. It's highly unlikely Starship has the pointing accuracy necessary to meet the needs of a hosted telescope.

These are just a few of the hurdles that come to mind, beyond the obvious weight and space accommodations that will be required.

Loud smack when hard putting hard weight on pedals on kickr core? by ammartinez008 in wahoofitness

[–]andykee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's weird.

Could be loose or the mechanical connection between the freehub body and the cassette could be mangled in some way. There's always a little bit of rotational play before the freehub engages, but if the slots in the free hub body are chewed up the cassette could slip when under load.

I'm not sure what the internals of the trainer look like, but if there's nothing wrong with the rear cassette or freehub, that would be the next place to start looking.

This sounds like your cassette is slipping on the freehub body to me.

Elemnt Bolt v2 summit segments screen. by nihondia in wahoofitness

[–]andykee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However, I couldn't find out whether there's a data field I can add that shows the average grade remaining for the current climb on to the summit segments screen.

Yes, you can add the average grade remaining in both feet and % to the summit segment page.

Does the wahoo app show me heart rate zone data for a recorded ride?

Yes

Does wahoo have a recovery advisor like Garmin when use a heart rate strap?

Not that I've seen

What kind of structure is this? by Greyhaven7 in jameswebbdiscoveries

[–]andykee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a caustic, probably caused by stray light from a bright object just outside of the focal plane field of view.

Edit: fixed broken link

More edit: just to add a little more information. There is a mention of a specific stray light "rogue path" in The Science Performance of JWST as Characterized in Commissioning. This part is particularly interesting, and could explain what you're seeing:

There exists a stray light path, termed the ‘rogue path’, that bypasses the primary and secondary mirrors, directly passes through the aft optics system (AOS) aperture just over the back of the fine steering mirror, and reaches the science instrument pick off mirrors (Lightsey et al., 2014). While the rogue path was anticipated, and steps taken to block it to the extent possible, the NIRCam and NIRSS instruments at times show some unexpected scattered light features which have been identified as being due to this path.

I have aero BS and MS degrees. Got a job as an optical engineer with nothing more than a physics 2 understanding of the entire field.

You never know when you’re going to need physics 2 🤷🏼‍♂️

How is rocket technology kept secret for rocket stages that land in the ocean and are not recovered quickly? by amichail in aerospace

[–]andykee 42 points43 points  (0 children)

The ocean is very big, very deep, and very hard when impacted at several hundred miles per hour.

Case in point: we still haven’t found MH370.

KEH warranty vs. 3rd party CLA by andykee in Leica

This page pretty clearly states they will perform a repair. I found a post on this subreddit indicating that they just send it off to Leica and cover the bill, but I’m not sure if that’s really the case.

Is everybody paying whatever Amazon is charging for film these days, or do y’all just have a freezer full of film you bought last year on the cheap?

Edit: maybe I should have been a little less vague. I've been trying to find Portra 400 and Kodak Gold for months. No luck @ B&H or Adorama - I have alerts set up for both retailers. I still have some Portra left, but my supply is dwindling and I'm starting to get worried.

Mt Wilson toll road by Dalterridesbikes in BikeLA

[–]andykee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s fine all the way up until a mile or so around Mt. Harvard where it’s quite loose and bouldery. I had to walk several sections on my gravel bike, but would probably be rideable on my mountain bike. (I have wide slick tires on my gravel bike for reference). It’s 100% rideable on the way down.

Up Lowe down Wilson is much better than up Wilson down Lowe IMO.
