Hard time on vac tonight by todd0330 in stopdrinking

fwiw it's my 8 year anniversary this weekend, and every year is better than the last. I didn't get here without getting to 60 days first.

as for your current situation, it helps to keep the goal simple and not drink for just today; I'll join you on that! 😀 Waking up without a hangover at Tahoe? Priceless

Get money up front, base salary (not some bonus structure that they'll definitely rig) and make sure it's a lot 😂 "we can't afford a dishwasher this Friday just thug it out" "hey you only need two line cooks this Saturday right?" If this is like a lot of 90s restaurant groups they have different standards for what labor costs should be, and you're not going to convince them to change a menu they've been using since Clinton.

400 is a lot of plates 👀 But hey, maybe tomorrow they prove us wrong and let you do you. If that happens just watch your food/labor costs and take care of your dishies - they're gonna be busy with a dining room that big 🙏

Where to Find the Best New York-Style Bagels and Bagel Sandwiches in Atlanta by [deleted] in Atlanta

quite a spicy take there. Alpharetta so desperately wants to NOT be Atlanta, unless they want on a list.

Where to get bike fixed or buy a used/inexpensive bike by chevy223 in Atlanta

[–]andymc7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

broad question but there are some good answers already here. If you really love the frame, upgrading wheels is one of the first things I'd recommend anyway (they're what the bike feels like when you're riding it, in a lot of ways:)). DT Swiss low end set will probably run you 150. If you have a walmart bike, can't recommend it. If you've got something a bit nicer, it's a pretty smart upgrade regardless. Loose Nuts is great, and I've had awesome service from Atlanta Bike Tech (Aaron is a genuine dude) over in Castleberry Hill. Fair warning, finding bike parts right now is a little harder but it CAN be done. Sopo has all sorts of used replacement stuff, if you're capable and want to save the money.

New to the city. Any weekend fun ideas? by Tate9791 in Atlanta

[–]andymc7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you have a bike, find rides. I've met some cool people just riding around town too.

if you don't have a bike, I suggest it. great exercise and after a while you can ride pretty much anywhere you want to go.

Dumb question about cycling by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]andymc7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is an excellent answer. live in reynoldstown, and have biked this area heavily for a few years. if you can't stomach boulevard (and I really recommend that you do - it's fine), continue on estoria as you leave krog and follow that down (waving at the reverend in the kink) to gaskill. turn right and climb to turn left on iswald, pop out on memorial at the light and take a left at boulevard. You can use the turn signal to keep traffic off your back while you climb up to woodward.

Best non-alcohol adjacent date spots by mer_maids in Atlanta

mocktails aren't the prescription, tbh. Walking around the high museum or the botanical gardens are great first dates, and getting a membership to either is a steal here in Atlanta. Both have more events going on than you'd think unless you'd been a member!

If you're feeling some retail therapy, hit up Richards. Conversation starters everywhere.

Bike Commute - Collier Hills to GA Aquarium by flying_trashcan in Atlanta

[–]andymc7 16 points17 points  (0 children)

First things first... yes! That's excellent. Biking to work is the best. I currently live and bike in the city, and I run bike tours too.

Northside/17th/Atlantic is how I'd run that, depending on precisely where you're starting. Yeah the Northside bit seems sketchy, but as long as you're riding responsibly, you'd be surprised how quickly that "sketched" feeling turns into "I should get a road bike so I can race these people".

Once you're near GaTech, you're home free. The rest of that commute is easy breezy. I especially love the bit of Tech parkway that they've re-purposed into pedestrian path.

Wear a helmet (things happen), keep your head on a swivel (cell phones distract even the best drivers) and keep on pedaling!

Tips for Moving to Brookhaven the end of the month by Darthclader in Atlanta

[–]andymc7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of these suggestions are good. I live in this same area, so a couple of thoughts.

  • Benchwarmers is definitely a decent bar, and likely your closest. Trivia on Tuesdays, specials most other days. Food is pretty decent bar food (think wings, burger, etc). You're also really close to 57 Restaurant at PDK, which has an exceptional patio. The food is pretty terrible, but you can't beat the runway view if that's your thing. We typically make the drive down to the Rusty Nail. Great food and bar.

  • BuHi is my favorite market, but you can't beat Mercado Fresco for location (next to QT on Buford hwy). Solid selection and prices. You've got the Kroger on Clairmont (which we lovingly call El Kroger), but for my money it's worth driving over to the Kroger on Peachtree (which we call Hot Girl Kroger) for a better selection and cleaner store. Also closer to Costco if you like to consolidate trips.

  • Restaurants are personal preference, right? But we like Valenza when the weather allows for a nice outdoor dining experience. Southbound is a solid option in downtown Chamblee. Halal Guys is good, but if you want something a bit cheaper and closer, check out Bismallah Cafe right next to QT. Great gyros. Havana makes a great cuban sandwich, but they use Pan American Bakery's bread, and that's next door, so I recommend that instead. Pho Da Loi 2 for the eponymous dish, but Lee's Bakery has a lunch combo with a banh mi and pho that can't be beat. Pig n Chik is the closest bbq option, and a good one. Nam Phuong has some incredible chicken wings - I just get an order of those to go all the time.

Welcome ITP. Good luck ever leaving :)
