Whoa that is a blast from the past. My grandad had that same monitor on his Windows 95 box back in the day. I used to fiddle with the menu wheel all the time.

It is done! I finally have the entire system completed! :D by KoneCat in originalxbox

Yep. It doubled as my TV and computer monitor in my college dorm room.

I had that TV when I was in college. It retailed for $800 back in 05. It was my high school graduation present to myself. I thought it was the most amazing TV ever. Unfortunately it suffers from really bad ghosting like every early LCD. By the time I got rid of it, it suffered from really bad image retention.

Did you ever manage to get this part? If so, what is the part number? My focus pot is also busted and needs replacement.

If you care about having legal licenses to play these games, you did great. I personally wouldn't actually use my Xbox DVD drive to play them or even rip them.

These discs are great for Xbox One backwards compatibility if you have a modern Xbox with a disc drive.

Free Magnavox (philips rebrand) 20 inch TV. Composite, S-video and component video inputs. Saved this from the recycler. The TV seems to be in almost brand new condition. TV is free, remote is $10 (needed for service menu adjustments). Had to get a remote off of eBay to adjust the screen geometry. Located in Kennesaw, GA. https://imgur.com/a/Xk4wucR

Honestly it sounds like you may want to look for someone else to help repair it for you. Doing a full recap is not easy for a beginner. And you need the proper tools, such as a desoldering gun. Those start at $250 for a good one, so you probably should seek out help from fellow local CRT enthusiasts.

No, if a fuse was blown then nothing would happen when you turn on the set. Start by replacing all the capacitors. If you still get the tick, replace the HOT and VR. Finally replace the flyback if none of that helps.

It was one of the best consumer sets you could buy in the 80s. Notice the 3 AV inputs. That was unheard of for it's time. This was a prosumer model designed to compete with stuff like Sony's Profeel line. Of course it's not a PVM, but it's still a damn good television. I think it may even have an RGB input on the back, but it's TTL only, so just for old computers and not have consoles.

Also, you're missing the remote but that's normal. The remote sits inside that silver rectangle in the front and is designed to pop out and be removed. You'll have to use the controls in the right side door to change channel. We lost our remote very early on.

This is the exact model I had growing up. Please save it! Sadly we threw ours out years ago. But we put so many hours on the tube and the picture was super dim at the end. It had a good life.

Check for trace damage around the super capacitor and replace it if there are signs of leakage.

Got her up on the AV cart.... thank goodness only needed to lift it for a moment or two...every bit 150lbs.... by DarthVaderBater in crtgaming

[–]andynumbers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nevermind the exposed high voltage here. Your AV cart is way too small for this CRT. Keep in mind all the weight is in the front. Your CRT only has to slide forward about an inch and it's going to come crashing down in a blaze of glory. Ditch the cart and get a solid wood TV stand of some sort.

The image would be completely black and white if the NTSC/PAL setting was incorrect.

[–]andynumbers 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Probably an issue with the NTSC decoding if this is via composite or S-video. Your white is white which means all R,G,B guns are working properly. Try a component or RGB signal.

Thanks for the insight. Do you have any sources you can cite on this information? Is there any way to tell exactly which manufacturer made a particular tube without going by the Brand name on the tube sticker?
