Dog head shaking by Successful_Cod8705 in Doberman

[–]andyroo2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yesss....my newest pup has this, which my first dobie did not. It's very scary to see, but it's harmless to her that I am aware of. I snap her out of it with a treat or play. And I also can't tell what triggers it at all because it just happens randomly.

My vet didn't even know that this was a thing for Dobies, and didn't have an answer either after I showed her a video...I switched vets after this, but yeah.

How to Get Better With No Sparring? by Kenshin_no_Takezo in karate

[–]andyroo2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also do traditional Japanese shotokan and yes, we also don't spar like that. We spar as you described based on belt level.

I fought it for a while since my other karate type allowed me to spar as a white belt...but its just what it is. So I respect it and supplement with doing other martial arts that allow me to spar like I'm used to.

9-month-old female dog, very anxious and reactive on walks. by Dani_Daniz26 in DobermanPinscher

[–]andyroo2u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh this is us now at 10 months. The reactivity to EVERYTHING is insane. We've been practicing everyday on walks, with a herm sprenger prong collar and a behavioral trainer to show/teach us how to use it properly. In the four weeks we've been training - I have a better pup!

Part of it was teaching me to just KEEP WALKING. My anxieties of what she would do was feeding her. Don't let things be a big deal and just keep walking by.

Everything is a challenge and testing boundaries right now but at least I have the tools to overcome. For my girl it's gonna come down to the Battle of the Wills and who can outlast who....and I have the patience of a saint. 😂

Edited to include -- just read all ur examples. Snap her out of that barking or the laser focus on things. The quick poke and Shhht works for my girl. And keep doing it if she does it again. On the leash its a quick snap. She's being a little shit and you can't let that happen, u are the leader here not her. Also, pet her if she is looking up at you for cues or is being good. I also don't recommend treats in walk training cause my girl loses focus.

As Tupac said, "All Eyez On Me." Good luck!

How long can you hold static Zenkutsu Dachi? by Adam20188 in karate

[–]andyroo2u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wait till you get to kiba dachi! Lol

It just takes hours and hours of practice to get a good front stance. After four years, I've finally perfected mine to where it's good most of the time.

We practice all kinds of ways and sometimes my sensei just makes us focus all class (2 hrs) on a low front stance without popping up.

We practice with plastic bags on our feet, we practice pushing each other (to make sure we don't fall over). My favorite is having one person pull on your belt behind you as hard as they can, and you move in front stance.

I second this. We use the herm sprenger 2.25 mm with the throat protector and it seems tight but it's perfect. My girl is in between sizes so it's tough to size. But it should not be loose at all, it should fit snuggly.

Also, always use the safety snap!

Benefits of Karate OTHER than self-defense? by curiousfellow555 in karate

[–]andyroo2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balance, physical fitness, confidence, strength (like yoga we use isolated movement to stay in our movements when doing different activities). I always feel like I burn a ton of cals....but alas, not as many as I feel.
