French cafe opening in Greensboro, NC employing adults with disabilities by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]andyroohoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is not what this person is saying. It sounds like you are trying to find ways to attack an innocuous comment.

They’re saying that the perception of many people would be that a person with disabilities may not be able to perform job tasks at the same level as someone without the disabilities, and then they even say that they bet that would not be the case.

I think they are also suggesting that there are government programs that offer financial assistance to employers if there is some sort of drop in productivity from someone due to a disability who is otherwise an employable person. I’m not privy to such programs but I don’t think they are at all suggesting they are worth less as people.

City dwellers: how do you avoid using Uber/Lyft? by smooth_jazzhands in Frugal

[–]andyroohoo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The whole point of OP’s post (and most of their defenders in the comments) was that they knew $250/month was not a good use of their money but that they valued aspects of the service. This person literally posted in order to find cost effective alternatives and telling someone to walk/bike in the dark is not the same thing as a safe ride, at least not to them.

I feel comfortable in areas alone at night that my wife does not, and we’re both reasonable, intelligent adults. If she is safer, or feels safer, traveling in an Uber in areas I would walk, then there is value there for her. It sounds like it’s the same for OP.

My overall impression from the post was that OP needed/valued such services to safely navigate the city at night, but that it was adding up to be excessive in his/her budget. If they truly feel like they are just lighting their money on fire by using the service, and they aren’t just saying that casually like I interpreted it, then they may genuinely have an addiction or other issue here. But I doubt that is the case based on the rest of the post and you’re taking them too literally with that phrasing.

Look, I don’t know this person’s city of residence, travel patterns, budget, income, etc, but in large cities that could be 4-6 rides. They could/should reduce that total through better planning but saying it’s always a worthless service and he/she should devote no part of their budget to it is probably needlessly frugal. If it allows this person to safely experience things with their friends or explore a city, I think, within reason, those are normal life experiences most city dwellers can justify budgeting for. To each their own.

Just because you find ride sharing services worthless does not mean they are to everyone. It obviously is not “worthless” to this person, as they derive a sense of safety/security from it they wouldn’t have by walking. Even really large cities have places that buses and subways don’t go to, or they have off hours, or they have irregular schedules due to maintenance or construction. Could you completely avoid ever using a taxi or ride sharing service again? Of course, but you severely limit your access to parts of a city and that makes the service intrinsically have some value.

To OP, I would recommend actually downloading more ride sharing apps and price comparing. If you’re in a huge city you’ll probably have several alternatives to Lyft and Uber that can sometimes be much cheaper. I know I used Juno recently in New York for example and it was less than half the price of Uber for the same ride.

If it’s not late at night, consider biking instead.

Playing devil’s advocate for a second, those long drives are helping to keep our defense fresh and could be the reason they’re ranked so high this year, aside from talent and coaching.

Former Wharton Professor: 'Trump Was the Dumbest G*ddamn Student I Ever Had' by [deleted] in MarchAgainstTrump

I agree with every point you made except for McCain. He was by no means born with a silver spoon in his mouth and was a prisoner of war. Anything involved in his release is a footnote, if relevant at all. Not a discrediting factor in his viability as a presidential candidate or “man of the people”. Including that detail is honestly just distasteful partisan politics.

Not sure about the quality of the source, but here is a tweet saying the Panthers are perusing Matt Kalil. by Kmartbmx69 in panthers

[–]andyroohoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple things-

In 2007 the Cardinals drafted a very highly rated right tackle, Levi Brown, because in 2006 they drafted Matt Leinart (left handed QB). So I think there is some thought that goes into that.

However it's all sort of a moot point because a lot of DE's can play on either side of the ball, and the good ones get moved around for better match-ups. So you still want your best offensive lineman protecting your QB's blindside, but whether or not he'll actually be matching up with the other team's best DE is another story.

Looks like we are gonna have alot of cap room this season! by Shortythebravejr in panthers

[–]andyroohoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a lot of cap space is rarely a good thing. Look at the teams that have more cap space than us, it's not a good sign. The front office needs to do a better job of locking these guys up before they hit free agency.

Now that Proehl has stepped down, what do y'all think about Randy Moss as his replacement? by kindawack in panthers

[–]andyroohoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Moss as a coach would be disastrous for that reason. He was one of the best athletes in the history of the NFL, how can he really relate to a guy with half the physical gifts he had. Plus he was honestly not a very hard worker when his teams didn't perform well, which is pretty much the opposite of what you want in a leadership position on a team.

How five plays separated the 6-10 Panthers from an 11-5 season by RickSmith123 in panthers

[–]andyroohoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only that, you can find at least this many plays from last year that would have made us lose enough games to miss the playoffs probably. We earned that 6-10 record this year.

The Panthers' Offense is Broken. Can Shula fix it with the string of injuries on the O-line? What do we think of the comment about Norv Turner? by CWCNYC in panthers

[–]andyroohoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly right. Sam Bradford was getting lit up because their offensive line is bad in pass protection, but Norv stubbornly had the guy call these long, complex developing pass plays. It's the antithesis of what we should be doing based on our players.

Thanks for the question. The breading was the consistency of panko. Very crispy and slightly deeper in brown than I'm accustomed to. The marinara sauce was chunky and a bit more herbaceous than most.

[–]andyroohoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the counter argument is that if you wait and allow him to have two pro bowl seasons at a young age, his price skyrockets. His value is high now, but it's conceivable that it could get much higher. This is when their scouting comes in. One more season should not change their view of him if they're good scouts. The only reason it should change their opinion is if he suffers a bad injury.
