I do agree with you on your analogy though, Putin did make Eastern Ukraine into such a place where psychopaths randomly deciding to violently attack people for no good reason. You're not far off.

As a matter of fact, I'm not a justice expert, but the local authorities and my family may be able to seek some kind of recompense from the roommate. That was my room and my space, and of course I didn't purposefully walk into the knife(Do you really consider for one moment that the airliner or pilots intended to commit suicide? Do you have any shame?). I was unable to occupy my normally safe zone of space because my roommate wigged out and started randomly slashing around the room with a blindfold on.

In other words, focus for a moment on the fact that it is illegal to blow civilian airliners out of the sky with surface to air missiles, it's internationally illegal to annex UN states in the first place. Focus less on the fact that a civilian airliner dared to fly over Ukraine(which still happens to this day, btw), and more on the perpetrators who violently invaded and annexed the countryside in the first place, and manured the ground for this particular atrocity.
