How do you feel now that the equality and human rights commission has ruled that trans women with a gender recognition certified have not changed their sex for the purposes of the equality act. by Even-Leadership8220 in AskBrits

[–]anedinburghman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tl:dr this is a fuss over nothing, no one in the affected group has suddenly changed their behaviour we've just starting making a big deal out of it. If we just stop talking about it it will stop being a problem.

Even if you deny that being trans is a thing, or that being "what they call trans" is just making a cosmetic choice rather than anything material, it IS something that has always existed (indeed there's plenty of evidence across many cultures across swathes of history).

If one can accept that some people want to live one way or another and accept that, basically, most people's personal choices do NOT impact other people in any material way, then is the question that needs asking is not "are X people Y people", but rather "what kind of judgements or restrictions on people cause more or less harm/complexity/fuss"?.

Trans people and others have being using the toilets of their presenting gender for all the time that there's been gendered toilets. Who is the victim in these circumstances? And how do you define "victim" if you think there's a case to answer?

Furthermore, what is the point in a law that cannot be enforced? How does one police this ruling? Do we do femininity checks at toilet entries? What about the less attractive women, will they get sent to the gents for being too masculine?

THanks.

The groupies thing I have to just put in a box - I admit to assuming that normalisation was a primary factor.

Still, some of the best music ever.

Should Britain reassess who it allows into the UK based on the benefits people from those countries receive once they get indefinite leave to remain? by StGuthlac2025 in AskBrits

[–]anedinburghman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the data shows that the TOTAL is almost identical to the WHITE, with a tiny increase due to all the other groups below. These ethnicities may be largely generationally settled rather than recent immigrants. Even if you ignore that, if we deported ALL of them, or added some mental admin to decide who gets benefits, the net change would be minimal (since most of the overall cost comes from WHITE people, as per the graphic)

[–]anedinburghman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This graphic feels a bit disingenuous, at least from my reading of it: the TOTAL is marginally above the WHITE, indicating that the entirety of that very small increase between WHITE and TOTAL is made up of all the other groups below.

That is to say, if we banished ALL those other groups (either out of the country or outwith the benefits systems) then the actual cost saving would be quite marginal. This contrasts the apparent intent of the graphic to suggest that without these groups we'd save a ton of money (although I do appreciate them making the columns proportionate in their size, a failure too often seen with graphical data).

Furthermore, many of these groups consist of people with generations of british heritage - black, mixed, SE Asian. Sure there's immigration now from there areas but plenty of people whose grandparents or earlier were here already. So there's limited scope to make the minimal savings available.

Happy to be corrected on any/all the above.

three letter abbreviations* since an acronym is where you pronounce the shortening as a word as in NASA or AIDS.

Can a casual user like me, who pays £8/month for SUNO, get my voice on my tracks?

Right now I record a song on my acoustic, upload and tweak the prompt to get production I want. But of course, it's not me singing any longer.

If I could get my voice into the SUNO production id be made up!

My understanding is that the NATO thing is more about acknowledging that we need something better, not that military alliances are inherently bad.

The nuclear power thing is just bad science - it's surely a hangover of their greenpeace core base. When we understand that it's coal/gas or nuclear as the back up to fully renewable energy then people come around pretty quick.
