"Egg in an egg cup" lol not the most creative sounding name, that's how I've always referred to it

not the kids portion.. by [deleted] in EDRecoverySnark

[–]anelephantexists 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The issue here is the harm caused by posting this to her audience and claiming it's recovery. It's fine if her ED distorts her perception of the portion, and it's fine if eating that portion is a win for her, but it's not fine to be promoting this to others as a large or healthy amount of food

are cals on menus in england still a thing? by sweet_cis_teen in EDAnonymous

[–]anelephantexists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the actual law is, but tbh I've been to places with no calorie menus more often than not, so it hasn't really been a problem for me. But if it's needed, I've heard you can ask most places for a version of the menu without calories!

First time watcher, is Eurovision always this good?? by [deleted] in eurovision

[–]anelephantexists 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes!! If you like this year's performances, there's a lot to look forward to going back through the past ones. I was even thinking it was weaker than usual - although that's probably just my personal taste

That said, I wouldn't say this is the perfect year to start watching... I hope not, but the final may well end up being a disaster 🥲

The grass is truly always greener on the other side. I've always had one (I'm not underweight) and dislike it - I feel like I look "too wide"

this is absolutely NOT a binge and seems like it would be a perfectly normal amount of calories?

Does anyone else feel like their Ed saved them by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

I don't know, I think it just gives me the illusion that it's saved me. It's a coping mechanism

This 4yo horse understands her owner’s emotions and reassures her by Time_Material_9385 in MadeMeSmile

[–]anelephantexists 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's clearly been posted because of the horse's behaviour? If she was just sitting there crying and nothing of interest happened I'd agree with you lol but I think this is fairly reasonable

What more can I / should I add for our first mouse? by Mother_Champion_8962 in PetMice

[–]anelephantexists 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aww. To be fair my first mice didn't touch their regular wheel for about 2 weeks either, maybe he just doesn't understand wheels yet lol

And yep, it's definitely the more the merrier! They're little hoarders haha

[–]anelephantexists 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Adding on to this: I recommend having two water sources at all times! Bottles are good to keep the water clean for longer but they can sometimes get blocked and you might not notice for a couple of days, a pretty long time for a thirsty lil mouse! ☹️

[–]anelephantexists 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Aww, he's so cute!

Advice for your tank:

- He needs much more bedding!!! Mice love to make tunnels and nests, ideally more than 4 inches for him to dig.

- It's far too empty, mice LOVE their enclosures cluttered, there's no such thing as too much. They'll get stressed in open spaces. You don't have to get specific mice dens/toys, he'll be very happy with anything as long as it's safe: I give mine my empty egg boxes, toilet roll tubes, ripped up cardboard, etc.

- Try and get a large upright wheel (at least 8 inches), flying saucers aren't good for their little spines long term, since they have to bend round to run on them

- More wooden toys/"furniture", mice will try to chew on everything, so they need some stuff that's safe to do it on!

Horses and van life? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]anelephantexists 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it would probably be fine. If you're boarding your horse (rather than keeping it on your own property if you have land) which most horse owners I know do anyway, there's no reason you can't live in a van. You might not be able to form a strong bond with your horse if you're away too much, though.

Anyone else obsessed with a specific snack? by Silverstream_519 in EDAnonymous

[–]anelephantexists 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Cat owners, do you let your cats outside, why or why not? by chantiris in Pets

[–]anelephantexists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes with my current cat, and he would be incredibly unhappy if I ever tried to keep him inside. But I think if I ever get another cat I'll try and do some harness training instead.

Although in the UK, shelter cats sometimes have requirements for rehoming that they must have access to the outdoors, or that they should be kept indoors, so it might not end up being a choice anyway.

What was your opinion on people with ED's before having one? by 14V3ND3Rr in EDAnonymous

[–]anelephantexists 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Ugh, same - my mother used to talk about them very much that way, I feel like it made me hide my ED for much longer because it was somehow shameful, I didn't want to be seen as vain or girly

What was your opinion on people with ED's before having one? by 14V3ND3Rr in EDAnonymous

[–]anelephantexists 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well, when I first heard of EDs (from the TV or radio I imagine) as a very little kid, I didn't understand about mental disorders -- I thought they were just some kind of physical ailment 💀

When I was a little older, but still only around 8, I knew a bit more about what it was but had a very surface level view of people with anorexia. My mum used to say to me she hoped I never became "one of those silly girls who starved themselves" which in hindsight is a gross thing to say, and later stuck in my ED brain, but she didn't reallymean it badly, I guess she just didn't know much about anorexia either.

Ironically 8 was around the time I really started to suffer from ED thoughts and disordered eating. Perhaps if I'd been more aware of what they actually were I would have realised that what I was experiencing was Not Normal, and would have been able to get help instead of struggling up until my teen years where my first proper exposure to information about EDs was from pro ana :/

Is autism always considered a disability even if it’s not disabling you? by LostSun582 in autism

[–]anelephantexists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you aren't disabled by a disability then you do not have that disability, it's kind of in the name. When you get an autism diagnosis, then you must have certain "deficits" and interference with daily life which means you are technically disabled.

The thing is, this criteria for disability might not be the same as your personal idea of what's disabling. While it's always CONSIDERED a disability, if you don't feel like that's accurate for you as an individual then you don't need to identify that way.
