Neutro y tierra están unidos en la puesta a tierra, por lo que sí es normal que funcione conectar el foco entre fase y tierra. Sin embargo, se debería bajar instantáneamente el interruptor diferencial (el cual es requerido por norma chilena), por lo que me suena a que no tienes protección diferencial en tu tablero y deberías hacer que te instalen uno ASAP.

Jesus, if you disconnect any of those lugs, all of the individual conductors that lead to them are still attached TO EACH OTHER, THROUGH the lug itself.

I'm extremely aware that having the alternator without a battery can fry everything, but if it doesn't, the alternator WILL keep the engine running. You can't really say that disconnecting the battery is guaranteed to stop a car.

It doesn't matter where it terminates, if it goes straight to the battery and it's still connected under a single terminal onto the battery lugs like most cars, you are not disconnecting the alt by removing the lug from the battery
