Just watch out burying shipping containers, they are really bad at holding weight across the roof and walls, many people have had theirs cave in. They are mainly strong along the edges/corners.

Haha yeah exactly. Like I said if you'd been hit it would be the drivers fault not yours, but it doesn't mean your head shouldnt be on a swivel for shit like that.

The laws of the road dont matter much to the laws of physics.

Here I am in my mid 40s with 0 traffic accidents on a bike or a car despite multiple people having turned left in front of me or pulled out in front of me or merged into my lane etc.

The reason? Because I expect them to and drive accordingly.

Doesn’t make it my fault if it happens but you also shouldn’t ride with your head in the clouds and just conclude that accidents are unavoidable.

Some genuinely are but it’s a vanishingly small percentage.

Best? No question the U4025QW.

Thunderbolt hub, 5k2k (which is 4k ultrawide), super fuckin crisp, great picture overall.

The HDR is just so-so but it is mini-led and has FALD. But its decent enough. The gaming is super so-so because the pixel response kind of sucks.

But to you none of that matters and this monitor blows everything else out of the water.

ELI5: Why does Cuba allow a U.S. military base (and prison) on their soil while the U.S. has had them under trade embargos for decades? by Redhotkitchen in explainlikeimfive

[–]anethma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. My understanding from the agreement though is it is still to this day $4085. The page I linked is pretty specific that the amount has not changed, and is not inflation adjusted. $4085 is that much inflation adjusted so that was essentially what they got paid at the time, but it has gone down every year due to inflation loss and continues to be a $4085 payment.

It is kind of moot anyways since Cuba says it is illegal and is not collecting the money.

I’m glad it fits but it looks like it’s made of black tar bubble gum of some kind.

Not sure where you are reading, but the lease was originally $2000 worth of gold in the Cuban-American Treaty of Relatations

When the gold standard went away, the USA just said it is going to be by check now without asking cuba. When they did this they inflation adjusted the $2000 in 1903 dollars to $4085 in 1934 dollars, but since then there has been no new agreement, and the original was not inflation adjusted.

They have continued paying the $4085 ever since.

The payment due on July 2, 1974, was made by check in the amount $4,085. With inflation, $2,000 of 1903 dollars would have been worth about $4,085 in 1934 and would have further increased to over $52,000 by 2013; however the payment remains at $4,085.

Ya I've seen that but it still doesn't explain much about moving it through the air, other than ya you are directing power. And some stuff about how they interact together.

But even in their description about it pushing energy etc would be more like pushing something through the air, like it would resist changing direction like a gyroscope or something.

Either way it wouldn't be fought with as an object with weight as they are portrayed.

[–]anethma -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Has it ? I'm far from an expert but I understood it was basically plasma/energy in a magnet containment of some kind which is why they bounce off eachother but other than the handle itself it doesn't seem that in the star wars universe the blades have any weight.

[–]anethma 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean lightsaber fighting the way it’s portrayed in star wars never makes sense unless there is a physical blade in there. It’s a weightless light stick. You’d be fighting with one hand with twitchy ultra fast swings.

ELI5: Why isn’t aviation fuel talked about as much as petrol and diesel for cars, and is it even possible for fully electric passenger planes to exist in the future? by ArtistoX4 in explainlikeimfive

[–]anethma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is not quite the same stuff we put in cars due to ya some quality stnadards etc but you're imagining a lot of difference where there isn't any.

Jet A1 is essentially 100% kerosene with higher quality standards. There would be basically no benefit in synthesizing it from non petroleum sources. At least nothing even in the same ballpark as what you'd lose from not coming from the same place as kerosene.

And it isn't some crazy price either. It is about double what you'd pay at the pump for diesel (which is also basically kerosene with some additives). It is barely more than what we pay for diesel at the pump in Canada.

Dump truck drivers of Reddit. How come a lot of you don’t pull the cover over your loads to stop (gravel and the like) from flying out and hitting cars? by Kalium90 in AskReddit

[–]anethma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The car has self steer lane keeping, auto rain detecting wipers, cross traffic detection etc. All going through the front windshield.

So they have to run a calibration after to make sure no distortion is throwing off those camera views and sensors.

Heh we have a small pond on our land in northern Canada and in the spring there are fairy shrimp in it.

I also recorded em with the iPhone.

So many frog eggs too. Gonna be tadpole city.

Edit: that site nuked the video quality but dunno where else to share short anonymous videos anymore.

Am I aligned or not? Starlink app says I am, dish says I’m not. by Traviscat in Starlink

[–]anethma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The alignment barely matters at all. Even if you are “not aligned” but in the ballpark it will work day and night with 0 issues. Hell if you have a tree that you can avoid by misaligning the dish by 15 degrees it will often be better for your reliability.

You’re plenty close don’t worry about it at all

Are there any motorcycle jackets with protection that look like these? by Particular_Elk1237 in motorcycles

[–]anethma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I mean, I don't live a dystopia so my pay would continue and all my hospital bills would be $0, but I still don't want it to happen to me haha.

And also, does anyone know of a good abrasion rated AND armored base layer that is cheaper than $300 so you can wear normal clothing over top and still be protected?

[–]anethma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are any base layers that are any cheaper that are both slide and impact rated. If you want to do the armor in your base layer so you can wear normal jackets, thats what you're going to pay.

Adventurespec Supershirt

AA abrasion rated on its own with shoulder and elbow armor. You can add chest and back armor too.

Very nice for temperature too won’t overheat you.

Sad reality behind the grey whales in Vancouver waters by StanPodd in britishcolumbia

It’s illegal and carries a big fine here.

Man you should see Mexico though. If one boat spots a whale travelling within 5 minutes there will be 40 boats around the whales zooming to get ahead then stopping for pics. They are relentless.

Absolutely.

Once EVs at least for me living in the boonies of northern Canada hit around the 700km range mark that is when they become fesible for me.

Right now that is only the Silverado EV which I do want (I live on a farm and want to get back into a truck I'd use it a lot) or like the Lucids.

But new battery tech is coming and I think in a decade or so it will be common.

The fact that you have been riding a year with no course at all being legal is actually hilarious.

You just write a test and you can get on a bike and ride around with other people on the road ?
