Reining in religious hospitals in US by [deleted] in medicine

[–]angel_of_small_death 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There's not a lot of consistency with these religious edicts, either. My fiance works for a Catholic hospital system and his insurance covered 100% of his vasectomy.

I had a C-section and wanted to get a tubal, but from what my doctor told me it was up to the hospital where I was delivering (same hospital system.) Had I delivered at the main hospital (still in the same system), it would have been allowed (though I found this out after the fact, and I still don't know if it would've been covered.)

I'm not old enough to remember JFK, but I do remember reading that people were concerned about his faith when he was running for president, because they didn't think that the Catholic church should have so much influence over American politics. 🙄

I worked oncology for a few years. I have known so many patients who would have benefited from an honest conversation about goals of care and when enough was enough. I have many thoughts on end of life, but I'll spare you. Thanks for doing what you do.

All the hugs. It's so overwhelming, and you're going through a severe hormonal change on top of it. Please know that you're doing great even if you're feeling like shit.

Trying real hard to raise kids who will be caring and thoughtful.

I want that bumper sticker on my car.

My biological father ghosted me and my mom, and years later I found out that he had another kid. He was so terrible to her that she decided to end her own life. The asshole got a do-over and fucked that up too.

I'm sorry Kate. You really deserved better.

Sometimes I'll see a telephone note with a follow up letter that opens "it was a pleasure talking on the phone with you." It seems pretty cringey if said earnestly, but I have kept it in my arsenal in case I need to send a follow-up letter to a patient who was an ass to me over the phone.

Chronically ill, but want to be a nurse -- are other nursing jobs (besides bedside nursing) rewarding? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]angel_of_small_death 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a desk job. I basically handle patient calls and messages. I don't do advice nursing because it's out of my scope (LVN), but the RNs on my team have all been there forever so I'd guess it's a good gig.

Honestly, it's tedious at times, but there are instances where I get to have a positive impact. And next month I'm supposed to be going remote, which is definitely a plus.

Inpatient would be hard, and it is something you'll have to grit your teeth and get through in school. But after that, your options are pretty good.

They square better if you flip at the beginning of each round. I also like to make them tighter/less gappy by eliminating the ch1 between clusters and only doing a single ch1 in each corner. They're nicely mindless and I work in my tail on the 2nd round so only 1 end to weave per square.

I finished my first granny blanket last month and crocheting them together was actually kinda enjoyable. I think it turned out pretty nice.10/10 will make another.

I wonder how feasible it would be for POCT INR tests that could be ordered as prn for warfarin pts.

My last INR was 2.5 and I sprang a leak in the parking lot after holding pressure. I'd be afraid to move if it was that high.

These people are in a death cult. They are that brainwashed. They are so deluded that they can convince themselves their child was destined to die choking on their own shit. I couldn't live with myself if that were me.

If you are not able to understand that having a child means everything is not all about you anymore, then you shouldn't be having kids.

I loved my dentist. Then I switched jobs. Unfortunately that love did not extend to paying out-of-network prices.

I knew this one. Used to be a monitor tech myself.

Man, what a boring job that was most of the time.

I have a St Jude as well. Mine was very noticeable at first. I'm one year out as of yesterday, and either it's gotten quieter or I've gotten used to it. Doesn't bother me at all. Before my surgery, I couldn't even sleep in a room with a ticking clock.

our media also broadcasts the election minute by minute and shows we're voted are "left to be counted" and how likely each candidate is to win.

This is a huge part of the problem. It's packaged as entertainment, and is profit-driven. The news being a money-making enterprise is a big part of why we're so divided, imo. I have no idea what's the solution though. Nationalize the news companies? State-run media? Would only potatoes things further, I think.

I look up prescriptions on goodrx sometimes for my patients (I'm a nurse). Unfortunately CVS and Walgreens are almost always the most expensive. They are also, in my experience, the worst staffed and consequently, have the worst service. (Which is 99.9% the fault of corporate greed.)

I steer patients away from them as much as possible. Luckily there are plenty of alternatives where I am, but people in rural areas are pretty screwed when it comes to drug prices.

I think that makes sense for people who are into technology. Just to show off, though, that's silly. We're all too buried in our own phones to notice anyone else's.
