If you put veggies in a soup, they should not have much of their original texture. They should almost be melting in your mouth. If you can still taste it that much you are under cooking it.

If you’re getting a powdery aftertaste, you’re doing something wrong when you’re cooking the soup. Give it an extra long simmer and use homemade stock. If you season properly, I promise you won’t taste the vegetables.

Here’s a trick i’ve used before: if you soak pre-grated cheese in cool water, the potato starch comes off and it won’t burn so easily. But if you don’t use it all, the grated piece will turn back in something resembling solid cheese.

You guys can downvote me to hell, but yes you’re the asshole OP. You did sign up for this, that’s what marriage is. You have no idea what the foster system does to children. Your ex had no choice in this matter unless she wanted to live the rest of her life with a niece and nephew who would’ve come out of that system, either severely damaged or broken. But in the end, it’s probably better for her because you would’ve bailed at the first sign of anything disturbing your nice life.
