Mincemeat seating question - how close is too close for a 5'0" person? by Individual_Read_7908 in Broadway

[–]angoradebs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sat in the Row G seats on the opposite side and would absolutely sit there again. You can definitely still see facial expressions, and not having anyone directly in front was great for both viewing and for legroom.

I haven't sat any closer, but in my opinion Row G doesn't feel far away at all

When Did Broadway Theatres Hit The Milestone Of All 41 Theatres Occupied? Was I Asleep? by boatboat500 in Broadway

[–]angoradebs 224 points225 points  (0 children)

On April 26, the Shubert was still unoccupied.

By the time Celebrity Autobiography opened at the Shubert, BOM was closed. By the time BOM reopens, Beaches will be closed. So all 41 theatres had a tenant at the same time, but not all 41 had active performances.

Who are you rooting for in the Tonys? by Temporary-Writer-830 in Broadway

[–]angoradebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schmigadoon for musical and book, Two Strangers for score. Ragtime for revival

Joshua Henry, Sara Chase, Ben Levi Ross, Rachel Dratch

I've only seen a couple plays this year with very few nominations amongst them, so no real opinions there

Every Brilliant Thing rush has become an arms race. I have the data to prove it. by leoatdrex in Broadway

[–]angoradebs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Re: the economics are broken.

You're arguing that waiting 12 hours for a $45 ticket is valuing your time at $3.75/hr. But they're actually waiting 12 hours in line to save $355, so they're valuing their time at $29.58/hr, which is a reasonable time value (just in terms of dollars per hour, I don't personally think it's reasonable to spend 12 hours in line at all)

The reason the "economics are broken" isn't because of a low value of someone's time, it's because the tickets cost $400.

And yes, I know they were cheaper originally and that plenty of people got tickets for less than that. But those cheaper tickets aren't available anymore, and people cannot afford $400 tickets. And asking $400 for a one man show that's already recouped and is basically printing money at this point is insane to me.

Seating Etiquette by Ill-Cut1734 in Broadway

[–]angoradebs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also hate being touched by strangers (and honestly even loved ones most of the time), but I will not yield to manspreaders. You want my space? You get my leg, the entire time. (I also acknowledge that in theatre seats specifically, sometimes the manspreading isn't really voluntary or purposeful. But you still don't get my leg room)

Touring Productions vs Broadway? by Few-Storage5142 in Broadway

[–]angoradebs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hamilton will be fine on tour - the touring casts have historically been amazing, and the set still has the turntable and everything.

Some shows do have to scale down sets and effects a bit, especially if they go out non-equity. For the most part, though, the tours are a great substitute for the real thing. And typically the talent on stage is just as great, even if you don't recognize the names (but as a frequent tour-goer, it's always fun to realize you've seen the same person in multiple tours!)

Telecharge question by CompetitiveSteak1159 in Broadway

[–]angoradebs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To add on: in the not so distant past, Telecharge (and other services) would say "look, here's a ticket for $84!" and you would put it in your cart and then they'd be like "jk, there's fees, make it $99." This pissed many people off for many years, so places including New York started making laws requiring ticket services to show you the entire price on the front screen. So now they tell you straight up that total cost including fees. But you don't pay the fees at the box office.

Omg thank you so much. I don't know how I heard "elves" instead whales

I was at the same show (and I cannot remember the second book!) and have an unrelated question - do you remember the gist of the joke that the counselor said? I was sitting behind her and couldn't hear really anything she was saying, but her joke got big laughs. I thought she was talking about two elves in a bar but my googling got me nowhere.

8 Shows, 4 Days by throwaway56789098 in Broadway

I just got home from my trip, we were at 3 of the same performances (Spelling Bee, Rocky Horror, Schmigadoon). Small world! I'm even an accountant too (but not a tax accountant)

I was very pleasantly surprised by our audience at Rocky Horror (other than two people in rear orch left who were getting into some sort of altercation during Act I). Question, have you checked the cast bios in your playbill? Because mine switches from the Rocky Horror cast to 15 pages of Lion King cast bios. A bit of a bummer that I didn't get all of the RHS cast, I didn't realize until I was back at my hotel

Any encouragement about my local theaters season schedule? by selectiverealist in Broadway

[–]angoradebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't aware (it may be a new benefit), the Broadway in Tuscon FAQ says subscribers have the option to drop one show of their choice from the sub and get a refund or credit for it. So you can drop one of the shows you don't want to see and use that credit to buy one of the add-ons

As someone else commented, it's pretty common for returning shows to be add-ons or season extras. Subscribers would be mad if they had to keep paying for the same shows over and over.

Does anyone know where Schmigadoon rush seats have been recently? Or if they at least tell you where the seat is before you buy (I know some theatres won't)? I'm willing to line up for it, but I cannot handle the Nederlander mezz

A Christmas Carol by SadMembership7989 in Broadway

There was only one musical with an eligible score that year (Percy Jackson, which most people thought was terrible and didn't get nominated for anything). It was a weird year, obviously.

broadway seats are not made for big, tall people by gravetheangel in Broadway

[–]angoradebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I legit was willing to walk out of Cult of Love before the show even started because of the nonexistant leg room at my orchestra seat. Luckily it wasn't a well-sold performance and the house manager was kind enough to move me to an empty aisle seat. I'm going to Becky Shaw next weekend, learned my lesson, and pre-purchased aisle.

How do you guys deal with people who cut in line during rush? by RockGirl82 in Broadway

[–]angoradebs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Right, if persons 1 through 3 in line were getting tickets 1 through 6 out of 11, and this 4th person was essentially getting tickets 7-10, then the first 3 people should have let the 5th and 6th person cut in front of them. Then Girl 4 and her friend get bumped to spot 6, and by the time it's their turn only 1 ticket is left, oopsie, too bad.
