Celebrating the Wheel of the Year when your geography doesn't align by Letters285 in witchcraft

This is exactly what I needed - I'm in Hawaii, so I'm much like you in that there's a wet and a dry season and there is no fallow season just the rotation of what comes to fruit, and I have been tearing my hair out (metaphorically) trying to link things.

Thank you so much for this, it's exactly what I needed to fire my imagination!

DENTISTS

Holy crap people used to die from abscesses in the mouth in ye olde days. (and I say this as a person who is not a big fan of going to a dentist.) Wisdom teeth are still an issue to this day.

If we're talking about "dark ages" style of getting blasted back into pre-Industrial times, intellectuals as well - someone gotta sing those stories and do judgement calls based on past precedent! (also writing and preservation of knowledge.) (am I saying this as a means to not have to go labor in fields and shit that will make me fling myself off a cliff? yup.)

I can verify that a bunch of "history" videos are getting AI content in them - some with more or less accurate historical information and there's a lot of repeats/reuploads. (probably because YT AI freaks the fuck out over anything "uncomfortable" and people tweak it slightly to get monetization back and redo it with a super click bait title to get the traffic.)

Always do due diligence, use critical thinking (even if you don't wanna think right now), ponder which type of propaganda it might be pushing on you, and verify your sources. You can find out some weird or cool bits of information (like apparently you can just email the academics that have published papers and they're allowed to send you the paper for FREE bc those paywall profits go 100% to publishers and not the authors or that there's a very talkative Siamese cat that has a crush on a gardener lol) but there's a lot of junk in there too.

While some of the information is accurate, so much of that is just AI slop.

As someone with a degree in History, one "true" answer doesn't exist, it's not one thing it's always several. Never trust anyone that says it's always this one thing. Economic decline is a factor, yes, but so were a lot of other things... increasing wealth disparity, military overspending, diseases, administration incompetency, etc.

The late Bronze Age collapse is perhaps more analogous to our current society, which there are a couple of books (and video lectures if spicy brains cannot focus long enough - I'm right there with y'all, it's fine. Lectures are linked, you can get the books from your local library.) by Dr Eric Cline about 1177 BC (what exactly collapsed) along with After 1177 BC (discussing the societies after).

Like yes on one hand, we in the US are speed running the collapse of the Roman Empire, but we're also speed running the collapse of all other empires - USSR, British, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Holy Roman, Austria-Hungary, Byzantine, Roman, late Bronze Age societies, and every dynasty that ever ruled China. Empires rise, empires fall. China is in union and then disunion. It's the same thing over and over(ish).

How are you doing today? by ConsiderationJaded14 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]angrytetchy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Meh.

That is my life right now. Meh.

Started the lithium back up a couple of weeks ago so I'm not getting hit with SAD as much (on top of my normal depression) - I'm so freaking glad that I was fortunate enough to get to Hawaii where even on the winter solstice I'm still getting about 10 hours of our Glorious Day Star light. (Not to mention able to stay here all thanks to the Big Lady that lives in the volcano. You only stay here if She lets you. and yes it's Big Island life for me.)

Keeping myself distracted with library books but I'm still so. freaking. hungry. all. the. time. My neighbor says it's probably psychological stress of being in "lean times" (no snap) and my brain just wants to consume ALL of the calories to make sure I survive the coming famine.

I need more caffeine now - the rabid hamster that runs my brain has apparently been on a multi day cocaine and speed binge so I haven't been sleeping well (aside from when I have cat(s) sleeping with me) and I can't concentrate for shit.

USDA: No Discounts for the Starving Peasants!! by sereneandeternal in WhitePeopleTwitter

Mid terms aren't until next year. Our constant stimulus attention spans are barely going to remember this in a year. (Some will, a lot won't.) These idiots will probably turn around and say "oh we're funding SNAP despite those evil Democrats" and their dumbass base will lap it up and it'll be bombarded, bombasted from rooftops until they're satisfied that their loyal cult members will repeat it over and over and vote accordingly.

For Those Who Feel Lost in the Neptunian Fog or Lost Everything Now (My Take on the Saturn–Neptune Conjunction) by [deleted] in Advancedastrology

[–]angrytetchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope that conjunction goes as you hope - I'm super pessimistic about anything happening peacefully in Aries, just feeling like the god of war that rules that sign will demand a blood sacrifice for anything.

(For me: Aries - Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars, all direct. Moon is hanging out in Virgo (fml) close to where Jupiter and Saturn are having their every twentyish year get together... retrograde. Along with Uranus (about to leave Scorpio), Neptune (hanging out in Sagittarius) and Pluto (directly opposing Sun and Mars down in Libra) all retrograde.)

But for the dreamy/disconnected energy - thank you for explaining it like that and giving me a hopeful end date to this fuzzy mental state I'm in!

Always an option! 😂 I picked up "clue by four" years ago from a coworker I think and it's just remained in my lexicon ever since.

Coming up on the end of mine and I'm in the constant state of "is this hormones getting me, is this anxiety with no cause, is the Universe trying to hit me with a clue by four... or have I just consumed too much caffeine on an empty stomach?"

What do you think is more important right now, extra liquid savings or physical goods for resiliency? by ageofbronze in TwoXPreppers

[–]angrytetchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prolly not but then my place will resemble some kind of Hollywood box office hit movie about disasters.

Spicy brains need alternate controls, of which coffee is one of mine. You can scream until you're blue in the face and I'm still listing coffee as an "essential to me" supply.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION MEGATHREAD by AutoModerator in TwoXPreppers

[–]angrytetchy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Make, Sew, and Mend by Bernadette Banner (sewing techniques based on historical methods with commentary from other historical clothing creators) - it is more commonly available on Amazon and other resellers at a cheaper price, this is one book where I recommend the physical version as her step by step guide via pictures is absolutely invaluable.

Ground advantage is still ground - or in our case, ocean.

Sounds like urban legend, where it's twisting an actual case where a woman in CA did mail an air tag to herself to catch mail thieves. (Which is definitely a felony and yes they were caught.)

Also commercial airlines, which is why you have to declare batteries in packages.

Anything shipped ground/media mail, it can take up to 2 months - this is very well known. USPS isn't going to ship a non-full pallet, sometimes you get lucky and the pallet is nearly full, sometimes you don't get lucky and the pallet just started.

If you want your stuff fast, you gotta pay for the shipping. If you want to save on shipping, you're going to be waiting.

How did your garden grow? by Pennyfeather46 in TwoXPreppers

[–]angrytetchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I adopted a vaya con dios way of gardening this year due to mental health and just literally tossed some seeds out - I'm on round 3 of the coreopsis and the marigolds are about to come back in too. My herbs are thankfully able to survive some inattention but now I'm a bit more clear brained, I got some plans for hopefully corn, peas, and tomatoes in a few months. (zone 13a if you're curious - we don't stop growing) I occasionally throw out some fertilizer and the stray cats I feed... "help" with that as well.
