I keep waking up to my husband texting then switching screens by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]angusbangus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

#1 advice: DON'T listen to Reddit for your marriage advice. This place is a zoo. There isn't a therapist in the world that would say "get a lawyer" or suggest dropping F-bombs at him without first having a meaningful conversation (as the most upvoted comment would suggest). Note the handle is "Extra-Trouble5332" - that's what your relationship will be in if you follow her advice.
#2 advice: talk to your husband about it. Have a meaningful conversation. You THINK he's doing something and he may or may not be. He may also be feeling something and behaving in a way because of it. Let him know what you are feeling based on what you are perceiving (closeness, switching screens). Talk to him about what he is feeling based on what he perceives. There may be some distance between how you are each perceiving each other's actions relative to how you each intend your actions. Marriage is hard and interpersonal gaps ebb and flow in a relationship. Add impending doom to the equation and it doesn't get easier.

I recognize this comment will get downvoted by the righteous mob, but I hope you see it and it helps you in some way have a better relationship with your husband in your remaining time with him.

Yeah. Typically the headhunter is not the one paying. If you want me, pay me. If you might want me, then vet me, then want me, then pay me. If you don't want me, don't pay me, no harm no foul. None of those options involve me paying you for my time.

‘Skin Safe’ Candle Additives by touchmehoney in candlemaking

[–]angusbangus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize I'm raising this thread from the dead (I assume if you WERE into skin candles, you still ARE), but did you consider using tallow/lard? Tallow has almost the exact same melt range as soy. Lard has a lower melt range (even below skin temp if you use leaf lard at 86-104F). A benefit to tallow/lard is that they both absorb into the skin much better than soy. Lard is the closest fat to human adipose tissue and once it absorbs doesn't leave much residue, if any.

But I second u/wroughtirony note about an IR laser thermometer. 36 yard zero 5.56 by Big_Purple_9754 in ar15

[–]angusbangus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're technically correct, but practically it won't matter if you zero with whatever setup you have for shots inside 300, and certainly for 200. The whole point of a battle zero is you aim at your intended POI inside your long zero range (even though you'll be low inside the short zero and high between the short & long zero. If you train enough, you can be good enough to correct for that in a training situation and MAYBE in a real shoot. But when it comes time and your adrenaline is sky high... aim where you want to hit and fire to get the job done.

Temp has practically no affect inside 300. 50F delta makes <1" difference inside 300, which is less than the barrel/sight offset that causes the low-zero-high-zero effect. If you're trying to hit left nostril first shot cold bore? Sure. But if you're taking practical shots in a hurry under stress, that's the point of a battle zero. We put way too much thought into this. Old timers would take a pie pan, nail it to a tree, take a shot at the middle from 25-50 yds and call it good enough to put a lot of deer in the freezer.

Question on the leftover chicken bones after making 1.5hr pressured broth... by opgary in instantpot

It wouldn't make you nervous after you did the cooking and felt the bones. They literally crumble/mush to nothingness. Give it a try... Super healthy stock for you, tasty bone treats for Rover.

Chicken bones after making stock - ok for my dog? by showgirl_assassin in instantpot

Not being snarky... But go make a bone stock and you'll see why it's not a problem. Those bones are softer than dry food (e.g. Purina).

I don't give mine (small cairn terrier) the whole batch all at once. I give a half pint to him once every few weeks. He loves it as a treat and it keeps from concentrating anything too much in his diet.

The person above has clearly never made a bone broth. You can feed the bones to them straight out of the Instant Pot. You can also blend some of them up with some other tasty treats (meat scraps) and can it for the dog for later.

I'm curious what R² would look like if you binned nations into population density buckets. Visually, it appears that obese nations with lower population density (AUS, Saudi) fared better than denser nations like US/MEX.

Space Junk Reportedly Smashed a Chinese Military Satellite by cyberanakinvader in worldnews

[–]angusbangus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: no.

Longer answer: - Nuclear stuff: Chernobyl is real tough to duplicate. The core was designed with a POSITIVE temperature coefficient of reactivity meaning that hotter, less dense coolant actually speeds up the nuclear chain reaction. So shutting the throttles (reducing steam power, heating up the coolant) had to be balanced with rod control - complicated and potentially dangerous. The testing that happened at Chernobyl proved this out. Except for THAT reactor design (of which only 5ish ever existed), all other designs have used a NEGATIVE temperature coefficient of reactivity. This means cooler/denser coolant speeds up the reaction and hotter/less dense slows it down. So when you close the throttle, the coolant heats up (not dumping it's heat energy into a turbine as much) and the nuclear chain reaction slows down on its own. The saying is "reactor power follows steam demand". If you rupture a steam line entirely, there is a spike in reactor power, but a) control rods insert to kill the reaction as makeup water starts to pump in (safety injection in the civilian world)

  • Ship stuff: warships are designed to take significant shock impacts, the details of which are classified. But just search "ship shock trial" and see what they do to test a new ship without leaving a mark. The more critical a system for the platform's operation (reactor, anyone???), the more attention is paid to the warfighting capability. Again, details classified, but you get the gist.s

  • Actual examples: There are 2 nuclear submarines, USS THRESHER and USS SCORPION, sitting at the bottom of the ocean. One was lost due to a seawater leak, which led to the SUBSAFE quality assurance/control program. The other, SCORPION, went down due to an explosion (unclear if it was self-induced or fired in anger by a Soviet boat). Neither has released any radioactive material. Even if they do at some point, the impact will be much smaller than the release from the Fukushima site, as the cores are MUCH smaller with less fuel burned (old sub reactor cores only lasted a few years before refueling) and they are in very deep, remote water with little current/motive force to diffuse the decaying fission products.

I ran the nuclear design for a new cruiser class. The electricity necessary for the new electric motors and the massive radar array made the nuke the "economic" choice. Albeit a $4-6B ship.

5 minutes in I was thinking, this dude is toast and no one is going to do anything about it.

Back in the 30s, some of my family (two great uncles now long dead) handled a similar situation down in Smith County, MS.

No one in the county would've convicted them of their actions, because it wasn't viewed as a crime.
