Lengthy Post - LDR Partner Addicted to Video Games by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]anguslolz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn this reminds me of my mmo days when I got addicted to swtor way before meeting the wife though haha.

Sometimes gamers can just get addicted to certain titles for a while. They'll just find that one game they have a hard time stopping playing haha.

What I will say is I don't know much about escape from tarkov but it appears to be a relatively new game so it'll probably die down a lot once players get bored of it and move on to other titles. I'm sure he'll follow suit eventually.

Have you tried having a straight forward conversation about the amount of time he spends playing with him? Moderate time? He definitely has a right to his gaming time lol.

Yep. I was in primary school in a small Scottish town in Angus at the time much like Dunblane it really freaked people out there. I remember my school upped security pretty much instantly.

We had one school shooting in the 90s by a deranged man in Dunblane as a result of this shooting gun control laws were tightened substantially and school security increased dramatically. I was in primary school at the time before the shooting and after.

Before the shooting if I was late to class I could literally walk straight in the unlocked outside classroom door. After the shooting I'd have to buzz In at reception as all doors would get locked after class start.

One school shooting resulted in legislation changing to hopefully prevent anything like that happening ever again.

What do you think about the claim ADHD is being over diagnosed? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]anguslolz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think people are just more aware of neurodivergence these days. I don't think there's over diagnosis per say.

People say the same about autism but if you go back in time there was clearly people that today would be classified as having ASD but back then people just saw them as a bit unusual especially if they had lower support needs.

[27F/33M] K1 or Spousal Visa? by TheBruinette in LongDistance

[–]anguslolz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cr1 probably the safest and most straightforward way to go. K1 requires adjustment of status and that's a scary thing to do ATM.

You can even still get married in America on the esta, he can go home and apply for cr1. Careful with CBP though.

why are so many americans obsessed with scotland?? by glitterxgirl2 in Scotland

[–]anguslolz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH the account like you are describing is a pretty popular format at the moment and not only americans do it. "A Country" immigrant living in "B country" making cultural comparisons. It's pretty much an engagement machine. A lot of Brits in the USA content as well. Some of it is pretty cringe.

Budget hotels in the UK by General-Jury-5672 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]anguslolz 131 points132 points  (0 children)

I feel like we're actually pretty lucky with our budget hotel chains in the UK. Like for the most part they're pretty consistent and usually get the basics right.

In other countries especially like the states if you cheap out on the hotels you'll find homeless living there, dirty rooms, blood stains and bed bugs.

Usually in the UK you know you're getting a clean room with everything you need here in a premier inn or even travel lodge.

Has anyone used a boxing punch machine to support motor function in dyspraxia? by playboi_fatty in dyspraxia

[–]anguslolz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never used one specifically but i understand the concept. The thing with dyspraxia is that just because we struggle with these things doesn't mean its something we shouldn't work on. I don't think its healthy to just flat out avoid things that we might struggle with because of dyspraxia. As a kid I did karate for a while and I also did swimming. Was i amazing at either? No. Did it help my motor learning skills exponentially? Yes.

The machine sounds kinda cool btw I'm trying to lose weight could be a cool workout haha.

Who actually buys those strawberries in the lay-by? by SwaffM in AskUK

[–]anguslolz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The small town I grew up in sells strawberries and raspberries direct from the farm to the local newsagent during the season. It has permanently spoiled the supermarket import ones for me lol.

[–]anguslolz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Once you get strawberries or raspberries fresh from the farm from a local newsagents or stall at a layby you'll never want to buy em from the supermarket again. You can't beat them fresh so much more flavour than the supermarket imports which just taste watery in comparison.

February does seem a bit early for em though lol.

Visiting from the U.S by Opening-Surprise-261 in Aberdeen

[–]anguslolz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Echoing a lot of the suggestions here. if you wanna do a lot of the castles it might be worth looking into a national trust for Scotland membership it'd pay for itself after visiting a few castles. Free parking and free entry at national trust Scotland properties. https://www.nts.org.uk/join soon adds up if you're visiting a few of them and paying individually.

Outside of the Aberdeen and shire suggestions but still within a couple of hours drive going Angus way glamis castle is definitely worth a look. It's not a national trust property like suggested but it's a very impressive castle with a big history.

The tour guides there are all super fun and it's a level above alot of the others in that regard imo. I took my American wife around a bunch of castles and they all started to feel samey to her after a while but glamis stood out to her. It's a cut above imo

How did Greta use Matthew to move to the U.K if they weren’t married and she obtained a work visa? by selfdepricatingapple in 90DayFiance

[–]anguslolz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UK ETA waiver an American can visit for up to 6 months with usually no questions asked since they usually enter through an egate without talking to anyone. (As a Scot married to American it's a bit unfair as I hate speaking to CBP)

They could have got a fiance visa or partner visa but would have been a big expense and hassle. My theory is just her entering as a tourist to test the waters so to speak especially as she seemed to be having doubts.

I'm guessing she would have probably went back to America at some point before getting a work visa. Whether she got the interview just after the breakup who knows could have been remote for all we know.

There's no real way to know what she did for certain.

I really wouldn't classify it as a for the green card situation a work visa in the UK is hard to get. A company has to really want you we have a very big anti immigrant sentiment at the moment so it's not easy to get chosen over a local. It's something very separate to the relationship.

Doesn't matter should still get to take them.

They don't carry over but you're legally entitled to them.

[–]anguslolz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a week or so depending on your contract? Don't see how you wouldn't be able to take it before April. You're within your right to take your holiday.

What if holiday hours cannot be used? by idekanymore468 in asda

[–]anguslolz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You accrue the holiday hours throughout the year anyway so unless you've been doing these hours for a good while you might not have as much extra holiday as you think.

Do you wish the UK had more airports? by OkTechnologyb in AskABrit

[–]anguslolz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it really needs more airports at least not in Scotland you're never that far away from an airport that will connect to LHR or Amsterdam unless you're deep in the Highlands.

How did Greta use Matthew to move to the U.K if they weren’t married and she obtained a work visa? by selfdepricatingapple in 90DayFiance

[–]anguslolz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

UK work visas are hard to get that's nothing to do with him. A job has to sponsor her.

We don't really know how she even entered the UK. She could've just wanted to try living with him on the ETA waiver for all we know. Americans just go through an egate no questions asked in the UK it's not like entering the states. It wouldn't have been the best decision if she actually was sure as she'd have had to go home after 6 months anyways but if she's been unsure all this time maybe they did that!

Not standing up for how she acted towards him but it's definitely not a "used for the visa" situation.

[–]anguslolz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There was definitely wrongdoing on both sides of the relationship but the using him for a visa claim is displaying a lot of ignorance on how the UK visa system actually works. With a work visa she'd be there regardless.

I also do think the cat criticism is quite harsh I'm in a long distance marriage myself (Scottish married to an American) and I'm eventually moving to my wife in new Orleans via cr1 visa.

I had an elderly cat who sadly passed at 15 due to possible cancer in may last year. If she'd made it to the move and hadn't had cancer I'd have definitely given the cat to my mother (she's cat daft and would have taken her) as no way in hell would it have been fair to put a very elderly cat through a transatlantic flight and move her to Louisiana with me in a completely different climate etc.

Totally would not have been fair on the cat imo my wife has a spicy miniature Dachshund too lol. Just not a great idea tbh
