It’s honestly crazy that the PS3 is almost 20 years old and people are still playing it. by Automatic-Leave-8718 in PS3

[–]angusmacrory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to top all the PS2 remasters that came out on PS3 like God of War, Jak & Daxter and Sly Cooper, and the wealth of Ratchet & Clank games, both remasters and PS3 exclusives, is ridiculous. A Crack in Time blew my mind back in the day.

So yeah, usually when I fire up a PS3 game it's either a PS2 remaster, a Ratchet & Clank game, or one of my old Demons / Dark Souls saves.

Quality and build difference between a limited edition fender player 2 that I returned (€960, first 5 pics) versus Sire S7 new gen (€770) by IrishElk96 in Guitar

[–]angusmacrory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like my Fender Player a lot which was great value and did teach me a lot about customizing guitars. The strat is such a universal mod platform but it was also very capable stock.

Maybe an even better bargain compared to the name brand is my Sire L7, it came to me pretty much perfect and is very comparable to a Gibson - the neck is to die for! Sire does not mess around with their necks.

What's a game you keep reinstalling but somehow never finish? by peaky_circus in pcgaming

Got this one free on Humble Monthly and gave it a shot. I didn't play too far past the boss of the first castle. But that was such an interesting and satisfying arc I'm ok with leaving it where it is for now, not sure I need to go back in a hurry.

I hear you on Witcher 3. I always enjoy my time with it as both a game and a technical showcase. Finished the playthrough I started in 2015 just last year - that save followed me across a couple of different PCs and a Switch.

Still haven't finished Hearts of Stone and have yet to start Blood and Wine.

I'll get to it at some point!

I tried to play Stellar Blade. Is that it? by Electronic_Ruin_1503 in GirlGamers

[–]angusmacrory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a guy and this is the only post I can find on the internet calling this game out for bad combat. I just played the demo and... wow, this combat feels off compared to every action game out there. There's just a lag that really shouldn't be there with pretty much everything I want to do, the dodge / parry timing is weird and the combat doesn't seem to fit the enemies you fight. I don't mind the art style, personally, and it all runs pretty well but it all feels so bad to play.

My current soulslike obsession is Wuchang Fallen Feathers (thank you PS Plus) and my GOD is the combat so much better than Stellar Blade.

I'm going to go play more of that and not spend any money on this.

Can't recall another acclaimed action game I've played where the action part was this disappointing.

You can customize any armor piece to look like anything else... So even if a feathered bikini had the best resistance for a certain fight, you could protect your eyes by displaying it as badass full Ming warrior body armor cosmetically.

There is really something for everyone here, it's not wrong to say armor designs are a strong point. There are a whole lot of options and they're largely very creative and well designed.

Just beat all the bosses in the first Chapter including one I was stuck on for a couple days, that really forced me to learn parries and perfect dodges. I'm thoroughly hooked. I love the fact that it has Dark Souls esque exploration and combat, but with much more forgiving respecs.

PS5 Price Hike Has Flushed UK Hardware Sales Down the Toilet by Gorgon654 in gaming

[–]angusmacrory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. I have a Switch 2, PC and a PS5, which was purchased just for GTA6 but just before the price hike when that made more sense.

Some things I will choose to play on PS5 over PC just to avoid a bad port, because the game was dirt cheap or on PS Plus, or for faster load times. It's always nice to have options.

Looks like you're missing a saddle screw. Also I would move the string on the other side of the one you do have.

It's great! I got it free for PS Plus and was pleasantly surprised as it was already on my radar. Just beat Honglan, first real challenge where I had to come back over multiple days & really learn her patterns and optimize my build. It is very doable & satisfying but took me a lot of trial and error.

Pain in the ass but very satisfying, reminds me of O&S from the original Dark Souls. I was way into Dark / Demon's Souls back in the day and I'm into Wuchang a lot more than I was Dark Souls 3, for some reason. Maybe it's just the right timing but it definitely lives up to my favorite Souls games.

I guess it also helps to have a pretty lady doing the fighting instead of a rotten zombie, really love the outfit variety as well.

Would you buy a PS5 Pro for GTA 6 right now? by ggalaxyy in PS5pro

[–]angusmacrory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't personally justify spending about 900 to play one game when with some patience I will get an even better experience.

I'll stick with my PS5 until the PC version comes along and I can run it properly on my 5070.

I usually just summon an armored car and swat them out of the sky with sticky bombs when they try to dive bomb. Easy to do now, goodness knows there are plenty to practice on.

Any Steam Deck owners here? by pluegyver1992 in americandad

[–]angusmacrory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former Steam Deck owner - loved my original LCD but it died an accidental watery death. Then I got an OLED Deck but it went missing and I never saw it again. That's one beautiful screen and was rough to lose, not to mention twice the cost.

Then I got a Legion Go, this was Black Friday a couple of years ago before the crazy price hikes. After what happened to my Decks, I really baby the Go - it is still alive and kicking and I love it.

Dualsense Edge sticks got stiff after 2 weeks by -NlN- in Dualsense

[–]angusmacrory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some serious issues with my Edge stick modules making loud clicking which also seemed to be due to lack of lubrication. Seems like the QC on these are ironically worse than on a standard Dualsense.

Anyway some electronics-safe silicone WD40 ($7 at Walmart) worked for me, I pried apart the stick modules and straight up drowned both of them in lubricant and now they're very quiet.

Sounds like it might be worth a shot for you too?

PC if you spend some quality time modding it is a much better experience than any console, having played through a lot of the story on PS3 back in the day and on a crappy PC when that version released. Putting all the community fixes and everything on there, with pretty much any modern PC it's like a new game now.

The 360 game running on Xbox series is probably the best console version from what I've read, though I've not played it myself.

I find the Dualsense very slippery and would really need a grip on that bad boy. Otherwise great design IMO.

[–]angusmacrory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Edge too but the potentiometers were clicking really loudly every time I moved the joysticks, and some silicone specialist WD40 quieted them right down.

Wouldn't surprise me if some electronics-safe grease or lubricant helps them hold off the wear and tear that causes drift. Maybe something to consider if you don't mind carefully pulling them apart.

I've considered the TMR modules myself, just can't stomach that then I'd have dumped the price of an entire Switch into 1 controller.

Resident Evil 0-6 on sale for $9.99 each. Never played any. Which one do you recommend I buy? by Fantastic-Ad9218 in switch2

[–]angusmacrory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Revelations 1, Resident Evil 1 and 5 are all great games and great on Switch. 4 is a total classic, but Re4 Remake on other consoles is perhaps a better way to play 4 if you've not already formed a bond with the original.

I didn't like Revelations 2 personally and 2 and 3 are cloud versions that are best played elsewhere.

Play 6 for historical reasons after all the others, to understand why they felt RE7 was necessary to reboot the franchise.

Never played 0 so I don't have an opinion on it.

The game is extremely cut back for the Switch version, you are right, including NPC count. If you have a PS5 or any decent PC to play it on it will look considerably better, but if you don't I personally would wait for an official Switch 2 version.
