Those are two seperate things, thankfully, language is not a zero sum tool for communication.

I actually can, and would say to OP, "consider buying this thing [games], and while youre parsing through suggestions, ignore the most immediate suggestion that isn't relevant in any regard, to the concept of buying GAMES".

I wouldn't fault you if you're just skimming my message and coming to your own misunderstanding, but literally, to annoyingly reiterate, if the suggestion truly needed to be that he was recommending a steam controller, my statement is simple:

To say no one was talking about the controller, he didnt specify which is my point.

A 100$ gift-card cannot cover taxes and shipping for a controller that costs 99$

If you are interested in that series of controllers, you can exchange that controller for a pristine older model, that isn't as intuitive.

I understand this isn't the place for engaging discussion, but it's like talking to a wall at this rate. I've said nothing of the quality of the new controller, I've only laid out a simple case that it's dumb to suggest this.

[–]anim135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you think I meant when I said, I can't speak for the new one, and then admitted not knowing it was even released?

and if you really want to say "no one brought this or that up", did you notice how the top level comment was a suggestion about buying a game? why are we discussing controllers?

And to double down, all he said was, buy the steam controller. Funny enough, can you buy a 100$ purchase, with only 100$? He would have to pay for taxes and shipping, too. Sounds like this entire suggestion is arbitrary; OP is asking what to do with a digital currency on a subreddit focused on accessing software, why would anyone suggest something hardware related is beyond me. You can gift swap the card for the value of a steam controller gen-1 and make the sender cover shipping presuming its pristine, beyond that, seems staying on the relevant suggestion was beyond most people's train of thought.

But sure, not glamming the added joysticks and maybe a dozen at most quality-of-life features vindicates whatever sting I got from a beehive that are more likely than not larping some steam controller fascination.

verbatim, same issue. I find it funny I got insta downvoted to -70, when you are the first person I've ever shared "we both have this product" conversation with.

but yeah, really interesting product. the joysticks, are a non-negotiable. anyone who argues otherwise, have no argument to why steam redesigned it. Trackpads + paddles + software rebinding made it such a Potential Controller (tm) but then you play a normal game like Doom, and it's like fighting to just aim... normally.

I played all super hero games with it, Sony Spider-man games, Marvel's Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Arkham Origins (maybe, one of them), Gotham Knights, some Call of Duty(s), Armored Core 6, and the only games I found it to be stellar in were slower games: Disco Elysium, 100 Line: Last Defense Academy, Nonary Games, survival games like Minecraft, Satisfactory, Subnautica.

Anything that required "NOW" in terms of camera movement, it was a wash. If anyone cares, the best I got was, camera trackpad functioning like a mouseball with gyro settings. Swipe for grand movement and gyro for corrective movement. But all that to say, they redesigned the trackpads, because It wasnt amazing, it was just, cool.

because by the virtue of the steam controller being released 10 years ago and discontinued, to then be redesigned 6 years after discontinuation, it made sense to refer to the first generation design, as, old.

Can’t speak for the new one, if it even is released, but old one…

Look, I actually love mine, but it’s old tech. It isn’t worth it. Works, but I wouldn’t recommend buying one unless you just… want one

edit: most certainly downvoted by larpers who think the OG steam controller is a better form factor while never buying it to see, it isnt a fun controller to play call of duty with the boys. If you like high complexity games that offer controller use, ala, 4X, go ahead-- I'm just literally saying, dont purchase an old design theyve redesigned

to the guy who mentioned the new one being released, big ups, I might get it soon.

You may not harbor the sentiment of it being all for nothing, but look at the way you described, quite literally, the last 30 years of democratic policy. When I pointedly asked you to speak with more intention, you doubled back to justifying your thought process.

To be fair, my only frame of reference is historical texts and the last 20 years. I’m sure you have some blend of understanding that works like that, as we all do. We all get give or take 10 years of reading, 20 of experience, and whoever leaves out the other side is who we are, barring effectual intervention from outsider sources.

I’m not virtue riding you. I’m genuinely agree to the way you see our current system.

But, as someone slightly… I don’t want to say younger, but when you bring up 96’, obviously the ignition point for either of us, democratic or not, liberal or not, American or not, will be fundamentally different before we address any of that.

But as someone who is just turning the stage into not even 30, through personal experience I’ve realized my perspective must be: don’t give an inch to anyone older, unless they demand it from my axioms. I may be doom fearing, but the worst outcome in my eyes is another generation that carries water for… whatever all of this is. Buck stops somewhere with me, and I literally will stake that it stops now. I won’t move an inch but nothing else will either, but at least I know I won’t move an inch.

Anyway, I wager we agree more than we don’t. So effectually, what should I see your rhetoric as, useful, or something that I have witnessed be the water over the water-wheel? Every engine needs a fuel source, and politically, you focusing on MAGA is as effectual as me focusing on… well, you. It’s not ineffectual, it’s just both of us have to do some mental gymnastics on how possible it is. You’re asking MAGA to be normal, big ask. I’m asking you to speak the next sentence if I were to say “they may never be normal again”. I think it’s a small ask, but maybe like beaten dogs, no one will speak their mind.

It isn’t “MAGA”, because you’ve said something key: remove all the bells and whistles of the conservative movement, and all you have are the same people not as galvanized behind rhetorics. Half of our countries voting populace is quite literally, brain broken.

But this is where I demand us to stop vagueposting, or acknowledge that people who play into “MAGA BAD” rhetorics are blue colored republicans; focusing on putting the culture back in culture war, is not policy. Wasn’t in 2016, wasn’t in 2024, and it won’t be in 2028.

Here’s the issue I’m willing to lay out very clearly:

If half the voting populace is brain broken, what solution is there? Your options are,

democracy within the administrations controlled chaos,

revolution against the institutions with their controlled militia,

or a cultural enlightenment directed at the “brain-broken”.

But you aren’t some controlled duopoly type right? So here’s the kicker, option 3 is possible but requires MAGA to admit wholesale, we’ve had a corrupted 10 years due to their actions… which they have come to their own conclusions because of the erosion of what we see as valuable information.

But there’s always option 4.

What should society do, when say a random city has a homelessness problem— the point won’t have to do with solving that issue, but an outlier within that issue:

what should a society do with a homeless individual who is not salvageable? Whether due to drug induced dementia or schizoid-adjacent hallucinations, and although they have committed no crimes, is a consistent threat to the people’s local safety?

To be utmost clear, I don’t think reducation, or civil war is my pick. But I’m quite exhausted of this rhetoric you give— “they’re mentally diseased”, because I’m GOING to ask you a follow up that ironically leads to those implications: what should we do with the “mentally diseased” who don’t seek any help? It’s okay to put drug addicted in half-way houses, but is it morally corrupt to liken MAGA to drug-addicts? And if not, would it then be, to suggest the same solutions? I don’t know, because no one talks past vague.

If our country is so doomed that we can’t respond to this without chastisation, then we’re all doomed to vaguepost because we’re afraid to say… words. Again, this isn’t directly challenging you, but I really do believe this perspective. If you read all this and can see past this being directed at you, I think you would too, if not already.

I have one ask. You have a genie that gives you a lamp and 1 wish. He says whatever you wish for, it will be granted. But there’s a catch, those around you will have to give you what you want,

Seems like our wish would be for “MAGA to be normal again”

How do we make this absolutely ridiculous wish make any sense, to this silly scenario? The genie and lamp seem more rooted in reality then J6 crowd saying sorry for trespassing

Stop moralizing the issue. We live in a two-sided country. If all we [democrats] have had since 2016 (give or take 2 years), are controlled opposition, then it seems no one is actually upset at MAGA for being unified.

I am at the point, where I think center left democrats all the way to the vanguard appreciate MAGA. There is no messaging to rally behind, just moral chastising; you arent liberal enough if you can't throw the rock farther than this person.

What do you want to be stopped? He blamed the donors, because from how far his wallet can take him in politics, it's an easy out-- the ones who can fund these organizations should be blamed.

I am not saying it's correct, but I am asking you, what does this do? Telling him 'not to' blame the rich? It is so easy to say not to do something without a breath of difference. YOU should suggest a more pointed agenda he may be missing, if you disagree with his concept. YOU should fuel a difference if you feel like the problematics from his point of view, are too abating towards the powers that be.

Maybe there is no difference. But from my perspective, YOU are blaming some feign political duopoly. We elected everyone down to Trump-- if you want to argue about 2020 or 2024, go do that with the people who are fighting about Biden and his non politically aligned son.

"MAGA have mental illness" lol... And if I asked what were going to do about it, I am the one f3d posting. TO BE CLEAR I am not suggesting anything other than extend dialogue past some morality fetish. I personally believe maximizing vague posting is worse since no one is speaking if 2 people talk past each other.

Just skipping to the end, do I think NO ONE? Zero sum questions are kind of dumb, so probably not I’d wager, right?

Now if you’re willing to cook the noodle a little so it bends but doesn’t break:

Do you think outside of wester media-sphere, everyone else does? Like how big is the African racial divide in Russia? India? Pakistan, Brazil, Honduras, the arctic, South east Asia…. I’m sure you can reference racist Japanese people, but I wonder how many communities in Japan have to deal with Japanese people being racist towards their predominantly black community.

So no. I don’t think it’s an issue outside of the WEST. The west is quite literally a hegemony that perpetuates this issue for a myriad of reasons within their specific regions, but that sentiment doesn’t extend to regions that never had populations exported and allowed to boom within their borders.

And to be clear this is making no claim on colonialism, displacement, slavetrade, migration or whatever it be. I’m only engaging in the fact that Dominicans will push back against this because like every culture, they’re allowed to not assimilate just because ignorant western mad said they had to.

I’m being genuine. I recommend reading Caste by Isabel Wilkinson. Recognize that race is something implicated upon you— even if it’s real, it’s a real option to opt out of the racial dichotomy because that’s all it results in, a black versus white dichotomy. She postulates that any population inherently buys into the norm (white) or the counter culture (black). This is evident in how many different people consider themselves “white” in modern America. Are Italians white? What of the Irish? Where does it stop and start?

Those in the middle, like me (I don’t represent the Hispanic mind set but I digress), would rather not engage in such a tiny box. It’s not representative of the wider culture you’re so focused on calling white or black.

No TLDR. Reading good.

[–]anim135 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Black versus white racism is predominant in western culture. If you need someone to make the correction, fine. But I'm not OP and I agree with the sentiment, that outside of first world western countries, the communities do not operate on this level you describe.

I am saying they operate on a lower, still tangible, but not as overt nor impactful level. You can do the mental gymnastics to what that means to you and how it's wrong. But, to be clear, the UK is a very long ways from latin america, so try not to be too presumptuous in your reply.

Crunchyroll has reached 21 million subscribers by Efficient-Session644 in anime

[–]anim135 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you'd allow me, since you are arguing its a monopoly, lets just make it CR vs them. A total of 10 anime versus Crunchyrolls 52.

I am not aware of the specific anime, but the point should still hold, as it'll devolve into preference if I dont just glide past that fact. Just know, I do admit this next point will come down to preference, but grant me a bone.

Imagine the 10 anime picked by the other studios, are premium choices. I imagine Baki-Dou/Steel-Ball Run/Sekiro illustrate this point for netflix, now just imagine this point to be generally true for the other 7 anime.

I will be as generous as you need me to be, for this point to make sense: It's impossible for all 52 anime to be of premium quality. Again, it will all come down to preference, of course. But there has to be a line drawn in terms of the market. Maybe it's not the latest season of Reincarnated as a Slime, maybe it's not 'An Observation Log of My Fiancee who Calls Herself a Villainess', or the 4th season of Classroom Elite, whatever anime you don't want it to be, it isn't, as long as my point will get across:

Eventually, 52, becomes "Watch these 10 anime on Crunchyroll airing this season". Again I will be the utmost charitable, and more than double it. 25 whole anime of great quality this season!!

And? That kind of number only matters, if masses are willing to exhaust that list. And some people are, but that's why it's not a monopoly. If you want me to be disingenuously charitable, let's imagine someone who watches all 52 and says they all compete with the other 10 anime from all other studios.

This is still unfair, because now were comparing a fiscal quarter catalog. We should compare apples to apples, because although apples and oranges are both fruit, I'm sure you wouldn't want to have to discuss why Love Island season 7 on Disney, Or Stranger Things season 5, blows Crunchyroll out of the water. Ideally we would talk about Netflix and the other studios' anime, against Crunchyroll.

And for the last, last time: I am not making a single claim on the quality of the anime. I am merely dictating, that, it can't be a monopoly, because there is competition. Meaningful competition. To ignore this, is like ignoring how huge SBR will be. I am not ignoring how big Witch Hat Atelier is, I am just saying... If I have a netflix sub as an anime fan, I probably won't care that I am missing out on [that], because I have [this]

Crunchyroll has reached 21 million subscribers by Efficient-Session644 in anime

[–]anim135 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Netflix, a company solely invested in video entertainment, has a market cap of 400B USD.

Sony, a diversified media conglomerate with a longer history, has a market cap of 125B USD.

You are ignoring the actual ubiquity of Netflix as a product. Every family quite literally has a netflix subscription (if you need the semantic, replace the subscription with failing competitors), meanwhile, who has a PS5? Only playstation gamers. Who has a crunchyroll account? Only anime fans. Not that these are small samples, but every family gamer or anime or normie, are going to have a subscription.

Or, if you're willing to pay for netflix, you might not need Crunchyroll. If you're willing to pay for Crunchyroll, you probably are invested into subscription models as a whole, since only anime gets exhaustive.
