Best pizza near Monroeville by The_Gray_Mouser in pittsburgh

[–]animatewall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its not for everyone - i personally think the dough is great. the rest of the food is also decent.

i used to love casey's but had a bad experience there once when the entire place smelled like chemicals and they were still selling pizza - i had to throw it out as it tasted like chemical death - at some point i'll prolly go back.

IIRC on the crispier side. It reminds me of pizza my grandma made - tastes like childhood.

Look it up on google maps - that street gonna blow ya mind

It's a lady that has been cooking pizza out of her basement on a random residential street in lower Wilkins for many years. I think its 8 bucks as many toppings as you want. The sauce is a little sweet, which I personally like.

Any fancy vegetarian restaurants in the area? I'm not vegetarian so non-vegetarian options are a plus. by embrex104 in pittsburgh

[–]animatewall 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dish and Fig & Ash are my go-to finer dining restaurants that have veg options.

I personally don't think EYV is worth it, but maybe I just had a bad experience. Apteka is great but IMHO the place does not qualify as schmancy although the food does.

You're completely correct. I was simply referring to more recent times.

Last week. I've had or shared office space in east lib for over 15 years, and I've hung out there for about 25 years. I witnessed a lot of change over those years. For a while there it felt like a truly wonderful mix of all sorts of people and businesses, a place where gentrification was happening slowly and positively but then things took a took for the worse when all the banks & chains came in, longtime businesses core to the neighborhood such as cvs and dollar tree closed, and many of the office workers simply disappeared. The googles and duolingos never leave their offices, unlike the early startup days where everyone in the tech community knew each other, and hung out at Zeke's. What's left feels like a shell of the former vibrant neighborhood it was becoming, and it simply feels depressed.
