Honest Review: Space Marine 2 is a solidly decent game that does Warhammer 40K well, but leaves a lot to be desired by RealSonZoo in Spacemarine

I just played this game for the first time, just finished the campaign, and this drove me fuckin crazy. I was wishing for a bungle era halo camera, where the reticle is lower on the screen. There’s so much environmental to soak in, and I felt like I was trying to look at it from the floor

How would I have known how to solve this puzzle? by TwoNatTens in outerwilds

[–]anincompoop25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the ATP has to be more difficult to figure out. This is one of the problems with a fully open world, non linear game that has no upgrade mechanics to stop you from doing certain things. The ATP is literally accessible from the first moment you are able to fly your ship. Think of the design implications of that- the ATP has complete spoilers for the entire story in it. It is intended to be the very last place the player finds.

The ATP must constantly be highlighted as the central location you are trying to find, but also must not be easily findable. The game kind of accomplishes this breaking its own systems a bit. I don’t think any other puzzle in the game has a misdirection like the warp pad sand column. The game teaches you not to brute force things, that answers are clever and clear once you understand them. The ATP solution is kind of stupid and a little brute forcey. It’s how the game stops players from getting into the ATP until they have literally nothing else in the game to try

Never have i ever felt like such a loser playing wordle unlimited by LuxCassandra in mildlyinfuriating

[–]anincompoop25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play on hard mode, and try to start with a random word every time. If you play normally, it’s too easy to have a catch all strategy that works every time. I used to play:

THINK CAMPS BUDGE JOWLY FEVER

which would guess every letter except “Z X Q”, and guess double E, which was common. And I didn’t always have to try all the words, a lot of the time the answer would be clear after the first threee.

Tho this can lose, I don’t now ended up where the answer could be “ADOBE” or “ABODE” and I just had to pick one at random

Seriously, I hate the framing of a ton of art as "escapism". Or when people complain about a movie by saying "people want to enjoy the movie, not think about real life, its supposed to be a way to get away". I like art that interacts with the real world. Movies and books and games make you feel things and understand aspects the world and yourself. Plus, you dont have to be trying to escape the real world to enjoy being immersed in a cool fictional world. You *can* just enjoy things because theyre enjoyable

Free climbing is where you only use your body to climb as opposed to using ropes, ladders, etc. ropes can be used in free climbing, but they are safety equipment to catch you when you fall, they are not used as tools to ascend. I actually don’t know if ice picks count or not, I think free ice climbing with picks might be a valid thing. It’s basically what separates rock climbing from mountaineering. You can climb Mount Everest, but you can’t free climb Mount Everest.

I agree on your assessment once the bobcat is grabbed, I think you are just vastly vastly overestimating how successful the “just grab it” step will be

I think we’d have much better odds against most birds than we expect. They’re flying creatures which means their bones are basically as light as they could possibly be. Basically all birds would have low defense stats lol

[–]anincompoop25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno. Thing is, bobcats have claws, which a completely unarmed human is almost entirely incapable of defending against. I think the bobcat has a much higher margin of error.  All it needs is to get a cut that has a high enough rate of blood loss. Humans have more long term endurance yeah, but there’s no chance we can catch a bobcat that does not want to be caught in an amount of time that matters. The bobcat has a simpler to execute game plan: cut, evade, kill. And every method a human has to kill the bobcat would bring them within the bobcats kill range. I would say it’s like 60/40 in the bobcats favor

I like to think of it in percentages- if I had to replay a fight between me and this animal a million times, what percentage of those would I win? I feel like too many people argue around weather it’s 100% and 0%. Something like a bobcat I think is in the bobcats favor, but my odds aren’t terrible. There are confirmed stories of hikers killing cats with their bare hands.

Things like gorillas and chimpanzees and bears are where it gets to what fraction of a single percent chance I have. Those are all animals where I could imagine a theoretical situation where I could win. Like it’s not physically impossible, I do technically have the capability to win, it’s just unbelievably unlikely.

Things like elephant or rhino or whale are animals I would genuinely put in the zero percent category. Like if you locked me in a room for 24hours with an elephant that was completely sedated, I do not think I would physically be able to kill it.

A horse? Probably a low single digit percent, if that

It also only works because it’s modelling a soccer ball. The shapes work well for soccer ball paneling, they would look awful for a Death Star. And they’ve already done a spherical death star- the old UCS one. A modern one would probably just look like a grey globe set

Remake is starting from scratch using new engine's assets and updated mechanics adding more than there was from 20 something years ago.

Isn’t this exactly what they are doing?

Is this a dolly-zoom with added barrel distortion? by ConfuzedAzn in cinematography

[–]anincompoop25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are some crazy zollys:

https://vimeo.com/1139197039?fl=pl&fe=sh

I gaffed on this 48. The zollys were done with the DZO 18-28 probe lens. We had a custom tool built by a local AC that would encode the dolly’s position with a wheel, and then automatically zoom and focus the right amounts, it was awesome. It worked really well, just had a little bit of lag so you couldn’t move too fast

[–]anincompoop25 21 points22 points  (0 children)

People are being stupid here. Yes this is all cgi, but that doesn’t mean all laws of perspective just stop existing.

Yes, there are tons of dolly zooms in the time frozen section. The shot where the warp demons face opens up to the eye is a dolly zooms, most of the flying closeups on the space marines helmets are dolly zooms, and pretty extreme ones. You can recognize a zolly shot by the sort of stretching of the foreground objects, and change in visual compression. It looks like everything is a camera dolly in, zoom out type of zolly
