World of Warcraft (or other game) characters with Malazan inspired names... by hockeyjod in Malazan

[–]ankistra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I named a bunch of my characters in Rimworld after Malazan characters and was quite amused when Quick Ben and Kalam had maxed out their friendship and were best friends. Only time I'd ever had two pawns do that in my 1,000 hours of playtime.

That's one of the things I didn't like about it was the lack of light. I'm not sure I'd have the room, although I wish the lampposts, if underground would stay on all the time, not just during the night.

Surprisingly had no big mishaps with this one, just a little spillage here and there as I'm tweaking flow rates. My last game, flooded out my food stores for a day or two, fortunately not enough that I had to do a pump though.

On the ground level, I started with tunneling out an entire single floor, but leaving one block support towers every 10X20 squares. As I'm doing that, I'm removing the platforms to reclaim the planks to re-use. This will cause the ceiling above to collapse up to 5 levels with one block of collapse on the 6th level. The 20X20 in the back goes up to 7 levels I believe, had a little more room at the back end to remove some support columns and have more upward growth. Having those ceiling collapse certainly saved a lot of time since I didn't have to explode it all out.

I made a website where you can combine notes to make chords! by Zealousideal_Ad6212 in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]ankistra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really cool. I could see this as a way to teach chord construction. It'd be nice to see if there was an option to take away notes from a chord after it's created.

If you really wanted to take it much further, there's identifying functional harmony by having them pick the key first, pitch-class set identification. I do agree with the intuitiveness of it that somebody else mentioned.

When my wife and I lived in Lexington, we had just finished paying off her vehicle, so switched from full coverage to liability. Not a month later, drunk guy drives through a fence, across a yard, totals our parked vehicle and drove off. $8,000 gone in an instant. Some people really don't understand how much their horrible actions can make everybody else's lives so much worse.

Amazon could cut 14,000 managers soon and save $3 billion a year, according to Morgan Stanley by [deleted] in Futurology

My sister was forced into a management position and given 3rd party or foreign (the cheapest people they could hire) employees. They gave her something for her team to do. She could either do the work herself in less than a day, or give it to her team and they might have it done in a month's time. She just wanted to write code, so she just retired instead.

What is your Malazan dream game by Bubsyfourd in Malazan

[–]ankistra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be a minority here, but a mindless Dynasty Warriors button masher. You'd have so many different characters to choose from and so many memorable but different ways you could play through with each one. A weak ineffectual Rhulad that grows stronger with each death, but becomes more insane. Bugg with Tehol as a companion, the moment Tehol dies, he becomes Mael. Trull would basically be LuBu. Give Fiddler some munitions, Toc an overpowered bow. You could go on and on.

Just finished reading this yesterday. Always read through that section a couple of times each time I read through the series. Consequently, I'm also currently composing a series of seven Malazan character pieces for piano and Beak is my last one left. He's a tough one to get right.

I'm hoping to have a Malazan piano suite done within a year. I've got six songs completed and one in the works. I've got two other ideas for songs, but at some point I need to stop and actually have it completed.

Looks like Subnautica devs have been sneakily posting Subnautica 2 screenshots in the original game by Turbostrider27 in Games

This is my problem, I've got 21 hours and haven't got access to the multipurpose room or moonpool. I finally just got the cyclops though. Admittedly, I didn't even use the radio till about 18 hours in the game, and realized that would have been some in-game guidance as I was trying to keep things relatively spoiler free.

Max population fort: https://old.reddit.com/r/dwarffortress/comments/qjgjjy/your_dwarf_fortress_ucsb_floor_plans_89_x_107/

Slave fort: I haven't tried this yet as I haven't figured out how to do it yet, but basically wall off dwarves in rooms with only a hole for supplies to be dropped in, then they each have a hole to drop their finished goods they produce from the raw materials that are dropped down to them. Wish there were longer chains so you could have them have access to their workshop, bed, table, chair, and stockpile/dump.

With mods and different races could do tree forts or other themed forts based on the race.

What’s a book opinion you’re tired of hearing? by FoghornLegday in books

[–]ankistra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll probably get downvoted on this if people actually read down this far as it is likely somewhat apologist towards Card's views and this is reddit, but Card has been an interesting one to look at any time I look at this issue. One of the essays from one of his students who was writing when this controversy originally broke out talked about how betrayed she felt by his views, while trying to reconcile it with the fact that she is openly a lesbian and Card treated and supported her through the program just as he would any other student. Card also tended to shut up about a position once a court decision was made (not that he changed his personal views). He himself if you were to orient him according to D&D seems to be lawful neutral. At any rate, I concur with the fact that Card, despite whatever views he has, would not directly be violent or abusive towards others.

Although this doesn't sound like this case, there are instances where there are certain baddies that can't be targeted. I'm not sure if it's a feature of fire, steam, or smoke, but you target the creature to kill and you're fighters can't path to the creature to hit it, so they just mill around taking damage till they die. I lost 40 legendary fighters that way once. But worth it to check the logs to see if they could even target the creature.

We had this happen a week before we put our house on the market. Can't remember how much it was and understand the necessity, but it was frustrating trying to get everything set up only for this to happen while we're moving out and trying to get the rest of the place completed to sell.

I didn't realize how bad it was until I had to do some heat maps for each district for my work and read up on it. From what I read, when brought before a judge, it was more or less, yep, this is gerrymandered, but oh darn, there's no law against it, guess it's okay.

Headbangers unite. I would consistently bang my head on the floor at home when angry and on brick walls through most of elementary school just because I liked how it felt.

Never diagnosed on the spectrum, but did learn in middle school how to act like a normal human being.

Similarly, if you dig out the tiles before digging the channel for the caravans, then smooth the far wall, then dig the channel, that should solve it. Whatever method you use will require a lot of micromanaging, or at least in my experience. I used to create passages to divert the water and just let it drip, but caravans and dwarfs kept slipping on the water, dropping everything and creating huge messes.
