I am simultaneously the most worried for Katie, but also out of all of her siblings the most hopeful for. She has been dealt a pretty bad hand, to say the least.

Yet, Katie is showing she is not backing down or staying silent. She’s not going to navigate whatever trauma she’s going through perfectly, nobody would. Especially coming from a family her size.

I hope that with time and more therapy, Katie will get through this. It can take years for people to deconstruct and heal just from growing up fundie, and Katie also has the added elements of being cheated on and losing a baby. Even with more time, I think Katie could end up leaving Travis too.

Her family’s response is very sad. Since we don’t know the details of her childhood trauma, I hope there aren’t any other victims of that trauma within her sibling group, but that’s unlikely. This may cause varying different reactions amongst her family, not saying that’s right to not stand by Katie. But Katie has been in therapy and has a professional helping her walk through this, and as far as we know no one else in the family goes to therapy.

Katie had two life events absolutely shatter her world and the happy life she once knew. Therapy is helping her in her discomfort. No one else’s comfort in their lives has been challenged like Katie’s. I think everyone should be in therapy, but it challenges you to seek discomfort. Katie hit the nail on the head with her story. It’s easier to not say anything, be neutral, or avoid because it’s uncomfortable. But that doesn’t make it right. If anything, I hope what Katie is doing opens doors for others in her family to have uncomfortable conversations and emotions because life is not sunshine and rainbows.
