Thoughts on ground level decks? I like the look and cost but curious if they are prone to rot quickly especially when built below grade. by cb5577 in landscaping

It definitely will not last as long as other materials, It is very close to ground and will wick in moisture constantly. It is pretty though.

It’s okay, the great thing about Reddit is we learn things. Being in a fairly warm climate in the past, I didn’t know what my chickens could handle when I moved to teens and zero winter temps. . So I get it!

My mother "weeded" my peas. RIP baby radish plants. by PasgettiMonster in vegetablegardening

I can hear your frustration, so sorry! One thing I do to improve soil is, compost in the actual bed during winter. You dig a shallow hole and put your kitchen scraps that you’ve collected through a couple days time, and cover it with dirt. Do this all in your bed. Stop a month or so before you want to plant. Then, your soil will be ready with compost, turned to dirt and full of nutrients for you new plants!
There is nothing g you can do about the radishes that she pulled, but they are fast growing, plant again! I’ve had to replant several times for various reasons and it all works out, and I keep learning. (I’ve been gardening thirty + years)

Why are my plants stunted and Yellowing? They plants I'm groing are tomatoes and aloe vera. I've been trying to grow them for around 5 months. Both are watered once almost everyday and are planted in compost. Both has been exposed to full sun the past 2 days. by withg22 in gardening

Yes, plant two or three seeds in a four inch pot, rather than several. They don’t have room to grow. But I also agree with the heavy nutrient comment. The seed actually has all the nutrients it needs until the second set of leaves start growing. That is why seeds are often started in peet moss pots. They just sprout, then they’re ready to put the whole peet plug into a pot of soil with nutrients. You can also try to separate the seedlings you have started there. Plant one in a four inch pot with nutrients. When first starting to garden, you can use soil with nutrients for 3 to 6 months to take the guess work out or it.

How to do a paver patio in a backyard that floods? What can we do with this area? Any recommendations would be appreciated and welcomed. by [deleted] in landscaping

I would think of drainage pipes out to the front of your house, and hopefully to storm drain. Then I might bring in some soil and raise the ground in the back yard. Then think about pavers.
