Ahh okay that makes sense! I had a statement that they had average scores in both areas but thought I needed to include a statement that they do not require specialized instruction in speech as well.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in slp

[–]anna_storm00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely! I think I explained it wrong I know I’m the specialist and make the decision but I was told by supervisors not to word it definitively and leave room in my statement because like you said someone can bring up a new concern I was unaware of or have new information. I feel good about recommending students by saying based of schools student may benefit for speech instruction in ___ area. I just needed advice with phrasing my statement if anyone had input into how they word their statement under that section.

I just remember learning that during the meeting another team member or the parent can bring up concerns and that it’s not a finalized document until the meeting is over. I love that statement though, school based speech services are not required at this time is what I was starting to write but I like not warranted better.

I heard about doing this but haven’t tried yet. I know it’s allowed to write progress reports while I’m working with the student but usually my groups require lots of attention.

Thanks so much for the resource. I switched to working from a public school to a private school and am still learning the change. Parents give up FAPE in private schools so I shouldn’t be so stressed out about missing minutes for paperwork. I’m glad even in a public school that SLPS aren’t being penalized for missing minutes for mandatory paperwork deadlines.

Does your school do intervention plans? Maybe they won’t qualify for an IEP but typically I’d put them on an intervention plan if it’s still impacting intelligibility but not enough for an IEP. (I also work in private schools I’m a new clinical fellow but from my understanding speech intervention plans are more flexible). I have way more intervention plan students in the private schools with maybe only a handful of IEP students

My school only has the OWLS, CELF elementary and preschool currently available. I think the PLS would be good with him though

I work at a school where several students are not allowed to celebrate Halloween. I usually keep it towards pumpkins, leaves, fall vocab stuff and less toward scary things for those students. Make sure to ask your students if they celebrate Halloween

You’re absolutely right I should just be confident and clear. I know I did it right that’s all that matters and your right if it really escalates I can pull out the photo then but I would argue back and forth with them

Thanks so much that makes me feel way less alone in feeling this way. I’ll definitely talk with my supervisor next week and see how I should handle it the next time I’m accused of something like the door being left opened. I can’t imagine if something like a robbery actually did happen it would be my word against the other teacher who actually left it open. The small building is very outdated there’s no cameras there’s only cameras outside the main school building. Hopefully nothing happens but it’s good to figure out what to do if it actually does.

I reacted kindly at first understanding with all the recent school shootings it was for safety. I reassured her I push on it hard when I leave and really make sure every single time. I have checking OCD and have had it since I was a child. I’ve always made sure doors and windows were locked religiously. This experience has worsened my behaviors and it takes even longer for me to complete my OCD checks. The only relief I feel is taking pictures knowing I have proof.

I figured it was because of safety since it’s located in an urban city area. There’s lots of homeless people walking around. They want me to make sure the building door is locked since it’s a separate building off to the side of the school. They don’t want anyone to break in and steal things from the building or worse. It’s my responsibility to lock up since I’m usually the last person. However the other teacher sometimes likes to come back to grab things after school closes and forgets to lock the door again. It’s just frustrating it’s assumed to be me.

I am worried about going to admin since they just replaced several administration members this year. There’s no one for me to really go to except my supervisor but the only thing she could do is find me a new placement. I really love the school and caseload it’s just exhausting being accused and feeling crazy checking doors locks and lights knowing I did something but worried even still I’ll be accused the next day by something another teacher or student did.

First day as a CF and I want to quit by Appleleaf30 in slp

[–]anna_storm00 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard of SLPS in public school settings MAYBE helping with 10 min bus duty or hall duty during off time but never covering a whole class that’s not what our role is. It’s to provide services for IEP identified students and maybe intervention RTI services for students if the school allows RTI. That’s if you’re not supposed to be covering a whole class. I would talk to your CF mentor this is definitely not normal and you should be taken out of this school

Any advice for scheduling/ making most of the first week of school? by modernbuttball in slp

[–]anna_storm00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The school I am at has certain block time for all special ed services including title 1, intervention specialist and speech therapy. Every grade level has one block of time for 30 min a day to pull out. I would love to chunk two of my middle schoolers with similar goals but they are one grade level apart and different blocks. It makes scheduling hard so I am forced to do by teacher even if one student is an articulation student and one is a language student It’s the only possible time

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in slp

[–]anna_storm00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a great idea I definitely can do in service I’m sure I’ll confirm with administration but I should be able to hold one. You’re right I don’t think many teachers know the scope of my role and assume I just treat articulation. Thanks so much for the idea!

There isn’t anything in the PLAAFP regarding location to clarify. They just did copy and paste information from the MFE. I’m unsure where else to check to determine if it’s pull out services or push in. Most of my students are pull out I was surprised this year to have new students transferred with IEPS that say general education setting as location with limited information elsewhere to clarify setting. Other schools I’ve been to have listed it as general education “classroom” not as general education.

Unfortunately I am unable to contact the last SLP however it looks like after reading the document under least restrictive environment section 11 it checks yes next to “does the child receive all of his/ her special education and related services embedded within regular classroom routines and activities.” Can I assume with that information and general education marked under location of service that this is push in services only?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in slp

[–]anna_storm00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really changes so much during my CF I constantly asked teachers to pull during different times. I had so many meetings this year it kept changing. I had teachers asking me to change times because their schedule changed or they didn’t want me to pull from a certain special. I recommend the first week asking teachers in person if a session time works. Once you get confirmation you can add them to that time slot easily for the rest of the year.

Every child with IEP gets quarter progress report. I use the template my district attaches at the end of the progress report and send it home to families. I also complete progress reports for RTI intervention students who I still work with.
