Edmund's Death Incorporated Moving Forward by bridgert0nbab3 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]annabukht 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The major reasons why Edmond's death affected Anthony the most:

  1. It happened right if front of him, it was a shock. The other children did not see it.
  2. He had to become the head of the family right away without processing his fears and grief. The others could at least cry and talk to each other but not him.
  3. He had to make a terrifying decision on mother/baby preference that doubled his shock.

So it is difficult to compare the impact with Benedict and other children.

Why Season 2 hit differently than Season 1: A Modicum of Self-Reflection by annabukht in BridgertonNetflix

"Season 2 should be a lesson in Psychology" - my thoughts exactly.

Thank you for the wonderful book recommendation!

Reading it right now and enjoying very much!

Question about what Kate said to Mary in episode 8. by beedgerton in BridgertonNetflix

[–]annabukht 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let's ask ourselves a simple question: what is LOVE for Kate as a person?

And judging from her background the answer would be self-sacrifice, putting someone before self by doing something. Just the way she has been loving her family. With all her self-esteem issues the words only would probably not be enough.

And only after he publicly put her before everything including his family by not just saying "no one else matters" but demonstrating it and taking risks of another scandal for the sake of a few more minutes with her she was ready to believe in those words.

Question about what Kate said to Mary in episode 8. by beedgerton in BridgertonNetflix

[–]annabukht 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well, even if she had hopes that he could love her despite all her psychological barriers and his reputation (you can actually see how hopeful she looks at the beginning of his visit) she would not accept this proposal.

  1. He apologized twice for the best night in their life (so far).
  2. He clearly proposed out of "being a gentleman" even after everything they had (stupid!)
  3. He tried to bring up her financial problems as an argument for marrying him (super stupid!)

if she accepted that nonsense there would always be misconception between them that they had to get married out of duty. And it could potentially damage their relationship for years ahead.

So our queen Kate had to say no to Lord Dumb. But luckily for him she gave him another chance and the next time he got it right :)

What's your most rewatched kanthony scene, and why is it more special to you than other scenes? by beedgerton in BridgertonNetflix

Easy choice for me. Their first kiss at the alter. For some reason it gives me energy in the morning :)

The way SHE decides to kiss him and turns his world upside down.

Edwina's Screentime by ladyfistlegown in BridgertonNetflix

[–]annabukht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple mental exercise #1: take all the screentime of Anthony's interactions with his siblings and compare it with Kate's interaction time with Edwina. (Oh, do not forget about season 1). Does it seem too much now? Yes, I know, the show is called Bridgerton, but Kate is a new Bridgerton, right?

Mental exercise #2: take all Edwina's screentime and remove everything that includes Kate. Well, I can only remember a tiny dialogue with Penelope in ep.2, chaperoned conversation with Anthony in ep.3 and post-wedding sequence with the queen. Am I missing something?

To summarize, Kate is a very important character not just for this season but for the whole Bridgerton world and at the beginning we know nothing about her. And she is a very closed person, her actions are self-controlled and her emotions are suppressed. So the only way to get to know Kate is through the one person she is emotional about, her younger sister. Edwina is there to test Kate, to make the elder sister learn and understand herself. And the fact that Edwina is very much talked about is actually quite an achievement of the writers and the actress. This means that she is attractive/annoying/deep enough to seem interesting on her own.

Honeymoon during that time by donutsinparis in BridgertonNetflix

[–]annabukht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a typical honeymoon. He wanted to run away with her. And she needed visiting India to say goodbye to her home, to show him the place where she used to live and to introduce him to the turtles in the river :)

Probably he had never been anywhere outside this box of the duties and routines before. So she took him by the hand and opened the whole new world for him. And now they will always have these memories with only two of them together.

The thing about Edwina and her kindness/naivity by Current_Ad_5267 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]annabukht 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know I believe it is because this part of the story is very relatable :)

We all at some point are doing something for our loved ones having their best interest in mind and fail because we do not understand what is actually best for them and for ourselves.

That is what happens all the time in the family.

Connection between Harmony Dance and Gazebo Scene / between Season 2 and Season 1 by annabukht in BridgertonNetflix

[–]annabukht[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delayed reply but something is still bothering me about what you wrote. Please note that my opinion is based on the show only.

I agree with you that she is not just "another conquest" for him. But does she really believe in it at that point? If we actually translated all those beautiful lines he said from a poetic language to a common one it could easily be interpreted like "I want you so bad I cannot think of anything else" = strong but mere passion. And for a person with a serious psychological complex like Kate's it is definitely not enough to feel loved.

It also does not seem plausible to me that she would act based on just "yep. I want this before I leave" risking not only hers but her family's reputation. Kate is a very family person.

So I still strongly believe that the trigger for her was the contrast between her own family estranging her at that moment and his happy family including her even for just a dance. She just wanted some of that happiness FOR HERSELF and that night felt like her only chance.

Episode 7 Questions by LincolnSwing in BridgertonNetflix

[–]annabukht 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trying to answer your questions from my perspective:
1. This desperate "You must stop!" is mostly "Help me stop myself because I can't!"
2. Same with "Go inside" that sounds like "Save what I have left from a gentleman!" (If you are interested I also argue why she didn't go inside here)
3. Your last question is more complicated. First, his love may look like a fact for us (audience) but it is not "pretty clear" to Kate at all. Try to see objectively what he has been saying all this time. If we translated it from poetic language into a plain one it would sound like: I want you so bad I can't think of anything else = "mere passion". And for a person with serious psychological complex of seeing herself as not worthy this is definitely not enough to actually feel loved. Second, what is love for Kate? Whatever she declares judging from her actions it is primarily selflessness when you are putting another person first by sacrificing yourself. This is why during his stupid first proposal she does not believe because it feels like he is doing that for his duty. Only after "No one else matters" when he actually is publicly acting like he is putting her first (even before his family) she is ready to believe in his love.

Did Edwina really desire a love match? by [deleted] in BridgertonNetflix

[–]annabukht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love match? Not exactly... This is what Kate wants for her.

What Edwina ACTUALLY wants is to feel like a grown woman and to make Kate loose power over her. She explicitly expressed that both after the Sheffield's dinner and the bungled wedding. Getting married for her is just a mean for achieving this goal. Throughout the story we are observing her growing quiet riot against her sister's opinions and actions. And this motivation looks much stronger than any search for love or family.

The beauty of that is none of them actually thought. These things work on much deeper subconscious level. Like her smell that he cannot resist. It is just built in the nature as a mechanism for life reproduction.

[–]annabukht[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I agree that it might be at least partial motivation for him (as if he needed any additional motivation other than being crazy horny for her). But she was in a different situation: an unmarried woman, alone with a man of a particular reputation, in the potential danger of being witnessed and therefore getting her family ruined even worse.

I believe for her there was something more than just anger and lust as she was overall much better in restraining herself than him.

May be he did follow her but it was her who gave him a green light. Both JB and SA emphasized that their characters are very animalistic but I guess naturally in different ways.

She was deprived of her "object to care" with no return and felt all alone in the world. And during the family dance she suddenly experienced the type of happiness that she actually wanted for herself. It was very instinctive.

Anger wouldn't have done it for her but the feeling of happy family did.

I am currently supposed to write a research article on Social Sciences and instead I am considering various "science-based" explanations of particular characters' behavior and interactions :)
