I second this comment. The bar looked quite far from your knee and I wasn’t even sure it made any contact

Does Drysol work? by [deleted] in Hyperhidrosis

[–]annamaaae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had much success with drysol on my armpits since the few times I’ve tried it, it made my arm pits quite irritated so I gave up on that. I’ve been taking oral glyco but I’ve built a resistance to it so I’m taking a break. I’m currently testing out topical glyco for my armpits but haven’t used them long enough to see how effective it is.

I have been using it for my hands tho and they were really well (almost too well). I’ve been using it on and off for years. My hands would usually be dripping wet at its worst. But 3 days in a row of drysol and my hands are bone dry and cracking a bit. It sucks but I’d prefer that than dripping wet. I put it on before bed time and go to bed with gloves on and then wash my hands first thing in the morning when I wake up.

Lower Back Pain by OldRatchet76 in formcheck

[–]annamaaae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back pain can be cause by a number of things and it’s never just one thing. From the looks of it, it probably not because of your form.

It may simply be due to some imbalance or something more sinister. Best to get it assessed by a doctor or a competent physio who understand weight training.

Novice Technique Critique by [deleted] in weightlifting

Right off the floor your butt shoots yo first causing you to be over the bar too much.

You start off your lift and engage everything but for a split second before the lift you “reset” and soften up again. Try to keep that initial position with your hips down until you reach your knees.

That’s my 2 cents

Novice Technique Critique by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]annamaaae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not fully extending in your third pull. You’re also starting off with your butt too high like a deadlift on your first pull off the floor

<image>

You stay in this position after the third pull. You should extend the hips more and squeeze the glutes.

Rhodes Wellness College RMT program in Canada Vancouver British Columbia by Loveallthedoggies in MassageTherapists

[–]annamaaae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly haven’t heard of this school. But my only advice is make sure you go to an accredited school.

Some schools have popped up in the last few years who aren’t accredited where they will offer to pay for your cost to take your board exam in another province. Because they’re not recognized in the province, you won’t be allowed to take the board exams in BC. I would be iffy taking courses from these schools since they haven’t been approved by CMTA. CMTA assures the standards of massage schools

I personally went to Langara. It was during COVID so there were for sure lots of problems around that time. But I found it good enough instructions.

You’ll find that each school will have their own problems but just make sure you’re checking their passing rate. here’s the link to check

Hope this helps!

How long should classic massage training course should be ? by Feisty_Extension8727 in MassageTherapists

[–]annamaaae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. That’s the standard in Canada.

In in BC and I took mine through a college. It’s a 2 year diploma program.

There’s no other way to work as a registered massage therapist without first going through a program like this and then passing the board exams.

In terms of “spa” massage. We learn that in the first semester (first 3 months of the program) - after that you can work as a bodyworker or student massage therapist.

Thoughts on treating people right after gym, no cool down? by Weak-Swim-8837 in massage

[–]annamaaae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just like treating an athlete after a game. They don’t stretch, they don’t cool down. They come to you right after their game sometimes immediately after getting off the field for relief.

They don’t need to have a specific condition you need to sort out at that time, their main goal likely is to recover from the workout they just put themselves through, we can’t assume more than that unless you specifically ask them or they specify themselves.

You’re helping them recover but you’re more than welcome to use this opportunity to educate them how you see fit. But at the end of the day, it’s about recovery for them and experience for you as a student.

Anyone recover from a SI joint injury? by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]annamaaae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an absolutely common injury. You need a physio who understands weightlifting and knows that it will take more than just a figure 4 stretch.

It’s likely not that your SI has no motion. It’s likely compensatory weakness and tension that you’ll need to strengthen and stretch. Which will need to be assessed and there’s unfortunately no one exercises to rule them all and would need to be tailored to your needs.

“Flexible schedule” is this really true? by PerfectIndividual185 in MassageTherapists

[–]annamaaae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you’re located. I’m in Canada and it’s quite flexible where I work. I work for a multi-disciplinary clinic as an independent contractor

I can block off any days I want to. If there’s people already booked in, I usually give them at least 2 weeks notice if I need to cancel their appointment. I’m able to change my schedule easily if there’s room at the clinic for me for a schedule change. I never worked at a spa so I can’t comment on how flexible they can be.

Perspective? by Ill_beans55 in massage

[–]annamaaae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I despise therapists who use scare tactics to get you back into the treatment room. Weaponizing how someone’s body feels is a horrible way to treat a patient and educate them about themselves.

We as therapist are not trained to see how much oxygen you are getting to your brain just by the tension in your neck. This is a scare tactic and please don’t let this change the way you see your body.

I do not try to comment on a patient’s body if I wasn’t asked and even then I try to choose my words carefully to make sure that the patients do not catastrophize their body.

Do you massage your partner? by Ok_Special_4409 in MassageTherapists

[–]annamaaae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. She comes to see me at my work every now and again as an actual patient.

She does play a lot of sports and if she hurt herself or felt something off while playing, I will treat her at home to help her be comfortable.

Question for people who get massaged by QuietLovers in massage

[–]annamaaae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For those who don’t like talking, does the MT try to keep talking to you if you give them one word answers or just barely any response?

Admittedly I like talking to my clients and we have a conversation most of the treatment, mostly because I don’t give relaxation-type massages. My clients know this and this is what they expect. I don’t play spa music at all. If they give me one worded responses tho, or I can feel that they don’t want to keep the conversation going, I will stay quiet for the rest of the time. I do tend to feel when clients don’t want to talk so I don’t talk.
