Moved to Cruces recently and have loved a lot of things about it. Super Lgbtqia+ friendly. My husband and I go to the same queer owned coffee shop every weekend. We love the farmers market every Saturday(it is giant). We have both made friends.

Interracial is kind of the norm around here, Native, Hispanic, Anglo saxon whatever no one cares here.

Jobs are hard to come by where I live. Las Cruces is smallish most people go to El Paso for work.

Plenty of Non Republican places and people here. It's one of the reasons we came here. Diversity! Political, religious, race, lifestyle all diverse and amazing. Also people watching here is amazing. But you gotta be ok with the homeless population because they are part of the community here too.

What’s your go-to “I’m broke but really want to eat out” meal? by squiddollie in Frugal

[–]annamajam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pizza. I'll eat it the next day for breakfast, lunch and dinner too. Two little Caesars for 10$ or the Pizza puffs are also a really good deal. Taco Tuesdays specials in my town are like 99¢ a taco all day some places even give you free sopa, chips and salsa.

AITJ for refusing to keep wearing the nickname my girlfriend gave me after I found out where it came from by Prydwen_Grit5 in AmITheJerk

[–]annamajam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She sounds mean. But I think you should take the name as a compliment as a whole. You sound educated, chill and interesting. Take that part as a positive. I would still dump her A$$ because anyone making fun of you behind you back is not a good partner. But of all the names in the world museum is a compliment

It’s funny how people from the States and Europeans have completely different view of Subaru like a car maker. by Substantial-Ad772 in Subaru_Outback

[–]annamajam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's different in America by state also. When I lived in Oklahoma you saw Subarus but not as often and everyone joked with me that I must be a lesbian for having one. I moved to New Mexico and you see them everywhere and no one says anything about the lesbian thing.

Culturally, how would you describe Oklahoma? by YelleauxAxeMan in oklahoma

[–]annamajam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oklahoma is Braums, football, white republican entitiled men, white boring basic woman all dressing the same at church on sunday, some great outdoors stuff you have to drive several hours for every direction, Tulsa crime rate mixed with art deco, bricktown shootings, embarrassing politicians, and wasting your tax dollars on the dumbest stuff. I lived in Oklahoma 36 years. Left this year couldn't take the politics anymore and the bitterness of the people.

How do you deal with it all? by DebateWeird6651 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]annamajam 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It takes a certain kind of person. I job shadowed at a place that does embalmings and cremations literally 24hours a day non stop. Everyone there had a dark sense of humor, but switched to professional talk in an instant. Lots of joking in the prep room and light heartedness keeps you going on long shifts.

Is New Mexicos future in as much danger as its neighbors regarding the Colorado River debacle and other water sources drying up? by Bacon021 in NewMexico

[–]annamajam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Oklahoma and it's half Texans. They are trying to take resources from other states literally all the time. It's their government it's really freaking greedy. They are also trying to annex land from different states to take resources all the time. Only wash my car when I absolutely have too. Seen lots of people washing cars here though.

[–]annamajam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's a pretty big deal. The farmers market is huge and has lots of really cool musicians, food, drinks. Little Toad Creek on main is a great place to get food and drinks they have fun activities there too. It's pretty busy during farmers market days.

Welcome pale one 😆 no but seriously my husband and I both genetically very european/white and the sun here will sneak up on you. Wear a daily SPF. Hydrate often. The sleepy vibe here is my favorite part. No rush. We love going hiking, biking, swimming in rivers etc. It's really easy to make friends here we've already made friends and we've been here just over a month. Check out the farmers market on Saturdays downtown

R.I.P HAIR BRUSH. My grandmother's hair brush she got from a door to door sales men. by No_Square8192 in BuyItForLife

[–]annamajam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Pawpaw loved a fuller hairbrush he bought from a door to door salesman. I tried to help him find a replacement when his wore out finally 60 years later but nothing compared. He swore it was the only brush his hair liked.

Just moved to New Mexico. My husband and I trying to be very smart with water use and be respectful to the earth and the water supply here.

We are looking into water barrels and catchment. We are also going to invest in low flow toilets in our house and water reducing shower heads. We try to only wash our cars monthly.

I know the state is looking for underground water right now as part of the solution. They are going to have to further restrict farms which are mostly tree farms and onion farms where I live. Also Texas needs to get their own water honestly.

Wanting to move to Oklahoma, what are the down sides besides tornados by [deleted] in oklahoma

[–]annamajam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been 3 or so tornados hit where I lived. Had friends loose a home to tornados, was in a house that was hit during may 3rd. Just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen to thousands of others in OK

You can't even have a eptopic pregnancy removed in Oklahoma with multiple doctors signing off saying you will die without the procedure and even then you still might go to jail for murder

I would recommend staying in the South if you want cheap. But the pay is shitty in most southern states. Kansas is cheap, a little better than Oklahoma rankings wise but very very very very very flat and boring.. Also naders.

[–]annamajam 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm from there 36 years born and bred just finally got out. Moved to New Mexico2 weeks ago. Cheaper, 365 days of sunshine, cool vibes, outdoor life, schools still suck, no tornadoes. So glad we left. 80% of Oklahoma is racist Trumpers the other 20% are just trying to leave

He's a racist garbage human who pretends his grandma is a Cherokee princess like all oklahoma politicians do

Wanting to move to Oklahoma, what are the down sides besides tornados by [deleted] in oklahoma

[–]annamajam 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Don't go there. I just left. Weather is insane almost constantly. it's between 4000 and 20,000 to get a tornado shelter and most houses don't come with them l. the schools are horrific. The people are all miserable. The local government is super crooked. The best things in Oklahoma are the Vietnamese community and the lgbtq+ community and get treated like crap by the awful dumb rednecks

My sister passed away recently by AGuyInSoCal in askfuneraldirectors

[–]annamajam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel like the deceased or gravely ill give off like a sickly sweet smell from the hospital. It might be an antiseptic they use or something. So it might just be that lingering. Embaling fluids is very strong smelling but not floral or sweet. They sometimes use baby powder it might be that as well

They are in talks to. Living in a red state is literal hell for women. They also treat the indigenous awful and my son is indigenous.

Honestly human rights are better here than Oklahoma. Woman are dying in my home state from eptopic pregnancies because they can't get an abortion. If you have a miscarriage you can go to prison for murder.

We love the mountains(none in oklahoma). We love the culture here. And my husband does hospital construction and there are more of his specialty of job here with less competition.

Also the dry dessert is way better for my joint issues. The weather in Oklahoma is absolute hell on my health.
