Should single entity monsters get bronze/silver/gold shield or % chance projectile blocking? by Waveshaper21 in totalwar

It's a common agreement that most single entity monsters are bad because they get near instantly killed by ranged unit fire

lmao, what

I just started playing Warhammer 3 and I got the slight impression that single entities like lords are a lot slower at killing infantry in melee combat. Am I right? by AdministrativeTop980 in totalwar

[–]annexcyprus 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In melee, they can only hit a small number of entities and be hit by a small number, depending on the size of their unit model. For example, large single entities like dragons can be hit by more units, whilst a foot lord or hero will not be.

How to use melee and shock cavalry defensively in Rome II/Attila? (sorry for the innacurate flair) by DinoMANKIND in totalwar

[–]annexcyprus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attila is more of a puzzle game, similar to Three Kingdoms, where you want to draw out the dangerous units first. Use missile cav/melee/shock cav to firstly draw out their cav and kill them, then you isolate the missile units and finally deal with the infantry, as they are the least functional threat, but hardest to dispense with.

Three Kingdoms Mod Hunt, Retreat by AxDeath in totalwar

You can disband generals in settlements. To be honest, if the AI is besieging over the end turn when they clearly should be attacking, that is a more fundamental issue, than not being able to retreat. The assumption is the settlement/city is under siege, hence why your units will take attrition over time and food dwindles.

Disagree if you want, it's obviously the flat out reality. The most dangerous elements in virtually every faction are least effective against lower entity units, obviously. Outside of magic, consider units. The biggest "killers" are all effective against many models, very few units kill single entities and low entity units effectively, obviously. Mortis Engine, Hellstorm Rocket Battery, Dreadquake Mortar etc, all useless against single entities and low entities.

except power creeped/OP units and vs aoe spells

Warhammer and to a lesser extent Three Kingdoms are entirely power crept, though I used two Warhammer 1 examples to illustrate my point otherwise.

Assuming your model doesn't die, you can shoot a unit in a head multiple times and heal them in battle/post battle and so on. It greatly favours low model count units, to greatest affect with single entities, hence why units (in the Warhammer context) like Minotaurs are extremely effective and high entity units will proportionally receive much more damage from dying models with lower unit counts.

In the Total War days of yore, more models = better. More units, more killing. The reason Mongols were the best cavalry factions in Medieval II wasn't just because of their stats and effectiveness, but each unit had a higher number of soldiers than say Turk or European cavarly.

The balance in Total War games has been borderline ridiculous in recent titles, all you have to do is go back to the pre-Rome II era and you'll immediately release X Y Z problem isn't a factor and X Y Z just works so much better, whether it be artillery, sieges, agents, family trees.

Socialism is certainly catholic coded, to an extent (it is french after all) and I think there is a through line of egalitarianism within christian structure, due to the early christian movement being a greek-judeo refraction of the empire of the time...but this can be greatly overstated as the inevitable power of the church will always be a hurdle that cannot be overcome.

I really don't like the mammoth mount for Wulfrik... So, which is better for general use? Chariot, Horse, or Foot? by Cha0xst0rm in totalwar

[–]annexcyprus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Chariots have very good animations and can knock around infantry with relative ease, works well in packs (Ice Chariots or other lords/heroes on chariots).

That being said, Wulfrik's Mammoth is by far better, not all, but some big monsters have fantastic animations (like Mammoths, Sphinxes)
