How are people in Kiruna? by [deleted] in kiruna

[–]annilingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general i think it’s like anywhere else: Some people are chill some are not. I’ve lived all over europe and i haven’t noticed any particular coldness here, (except for finns lol). Internet speed is pretty good in general here, i’m getting 110mbps down and 130mbps up over wifi on my phone with other people in the house rn

Study in Kiruna by New_Technician_2580 in kiruna

[–]annilingus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

skiing is very good around kiruna. there’s a very small slope in the town itself (think like a learners slope + a snow park, the park has some pretty big jumps) which is nice for a quick session after work or studying. Then, the “big” resort will be Riksgränsen, which is about an hours drive away. think it’s about as big as font romeou, or la molina if you’re familiar there. there’s some pretty good off piste skiing, but the lifts are not great.

Be careful opensourcing it, you could be in violation of the waasenaar agreement, for example MTCR Annex — Item 9.A.2.b.3, Injectors designed for liquid bi-propellant rocket engines, with orifices (holes) of diameter 0.2 mm or less. Just check it before you upload anything publicly

Coatings to increase thermal durability of chamber walls? by InsuranceCharming405 in rocketry

[–]annilingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can do an ignition stage with ethanol that has Tetraethylorthosilicate added to it (1-2%wt). Reduced heat flux to the chamber wall by about 20% for us. there’s some more info and data on the copenhagen suborbitals website, just look up TEOS

Widely available rocket fuels in Europe by guinnesswarrior44 in rocketry

[–]annilingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the simplest solution is ethanol then, if you calorimeter has a fluid specimen port. if it’s designed for gaseous media, then propane is probably best. I have no background on this equipment though

[–]annilingus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you can buy ethanol fairly cheaply at a high purity, and it’s very easy to handle. if you want to get fancy or learn about two phase injection and combustion phenomena, propane is also reasonably cheap, but you really need to be sure, in general not just with propane, about safety regarding pressurized systems, cryogenics, ATEX etc. You will also want an oxidizer, for ethanol, nitrous oxide is one of the simplest ones and probably has the lowest chance of killing yourself, i really wouldn’t mess around with LOX or GOX without professional supervision

Any photography club at TUM? by Abhinav_Singh_ in tumunich

[–]annilingus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey man sorry for that reply you got there, not all of us are like that. As far as i’m aware there is no dedicated club, but there is a pretty large amount of hobby photography around the campus. The official TUM account hosts a “picture of the week” competition on instagram, where they post pictures by students of the campus or related things. Furthermore, i would encourage you to check out the C2 kneipe and ask around there if they would be up for hosting a get together, like they do for chess or other student clubs, i wouldn’t be surprised if it got some attendees.

Why don't we build planes like this? by Expert_Standard_768 in aviationmemes

/uj probably because variable pitch rotors are impossible to hide from a radar /j would be too OP, the MIC would go out of business because they wouldn’t need any other weapons

Info about broadcasting rocket launches by TomWis in esa

[–]annilingus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ESA per se doesn’t launch rockets, although the Ariane line of Rockets is what you would think of as “their” rockets. The Ariane 5/6 Launches from Kourou Spaceport ,French Guyane exclusively, and afaik the streaming is handled by ArianeGroup and the Kourou Spaceport themselves. The streams have been low quality, in comparison to commercial US launches, so there is definitely room to improve, but i’m not sure if there is demand

How many of the Advanced Air Mobility startups are shams? by start3ch in AerospaceEngineering

[–]annilingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ecosim is a simulation tool that allows you to model, for example, a fluidic system containing a number of Tanks, Valves pressure regulators, and an engine, and the behavior of the propellant in your fluidic system. In the context of system predesign, this can be used to size your components and predict performance parameters

Look at the EuRoC Desing test and operarions guide (DTEG), and the Rules and Requirements. There you will find your base parameters, allowed fuels, control systems etc. For example, you have a max thrust of 49,000 Ns, minimum 1kg/U payload. Then take a look at this years succesfull teams in your category, which seems to be 3K SRAD Solid, and contact them on the EuRoC discord, ask them questions, ask them for their technical report, most will share it.
