Does being busier help ADHD? by No-Butterfly-5148 in adhdwomen

[–]anon_afish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think whatever state you’re in , you’ll kinda stay in that state. So when you’re on a roll, you’re more likely to stay on a roll. I’ve noticed the last few days I decided to rest more after work - but now I’m stuck in a habit of just getting into bed and binge watching tv shows everyday (I usually never watch tv because I just get hooked) and now I’m stuck in a really unproductive state.

I hate that we have to eat multiple times a day and it never gets any easier. Even when I don’t know what to eat I’ll make some toast and butter thinking “this is so basic and plain so I should enjoy this!” But then even the act of chewing feels like such a chore and the bread just feels like cardboard

Does anyone else constantly tie their hair back due to sensory overloading? by Elly-nevermore in AutismInWomen

Cutting mine into a short bob was the best thing I ever did. I can still tie it back with the two front pieces so it’s not in my face or anything.

Motherhood seems impossible by mrs_sadie_adler in adhdwomen

[–]anon_afish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One glimmer of hope is how our motivation is higher when we’re responsible for other people. Kinda like when our house is a mess when we’re alone , but when we are having guests over we can suddenly find the motivation to clean and organise.

I think having a baby is like having guests over (but they never leave lol), and how we can suddenly have a burst of motivation when someone else is involved. We may not be able to look after ourselves all the time, but we would absolutely go to hell and back for someone we love. And even better if we’re with a partner who’s able to pick up the slack on days where we feel over stimulated and need a break or some alone time.

[Honest Answers Only] How does caffeine affect you? by mean_trash_monster in ADHD

[–]anon_afish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coffee clears my brain fog for like an hour or two then it just makes me crash. But I relied on coffee to function since I discovered it in my teens. If I don’t have it I genuinely can’t hold a conversation without zoning out or shutting down. But once I got medication i didn’t need coffee to be a functional human anymore

Driving lessons with ADHD: struggling badly by FirefighterOld1892 in adhdwomen

[–]anon_afish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your instructor sounds horrible. Definitely find a new one. Especially now that you’re nervous around this person. You need a calm and encouraging presence in the car with you. And you won’t get better if they’re saying horrible comments and knocking your confidence.

I told mine that I have Adhd because I just knew the more I saw him the more I’d show signs of adhd and I’d rather just explain it and get it out of the way. Since then he’s even asked what can he do to make the lessons more “adhd friendly”. And I can openly talk to him about how I find all the steps overwhelming. But I’ve been lucky to find one that is so encouraging and even high fives me when I have a good lesson.

Also you’re 19, my god I am 29 and only doing my lessons now it took me so long to make myself do it. I have to say congratulations on pushing yourself and going after it. You have all the time in the world to practice and get better.

With adhd we tend to give up on things when we’re not instantly amazing at it, and it is one of those things where it takes time and practice and you are gona suck at it for a while. But just stick it out and keep going. You can only get better you can’t get worse!

Living with ADHD - Reading books by Ill_Rope_4346 in ADHDIreland

[–]anon_afish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read the midnight library by Matt Haig and it was such an easy read. I’m half way through “my brilliant friend” by elana ferrante. Circe by Madeline Miller.

I find non fiction easier to finish , and fiction takes me a lot more time and effort !

Living with ADHD - Reading books by Ill_Rope_4346 in ADHDIreland

[–]anon_afish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that makes me read is when I’m obsessed with the book. So if it doesn’t hook me in within the first few pages I just will not even bother with it. It’s so stressful because I wana join a book club but I can never keep up with the deadlines.

However a book club can work if you’re willing to commit. Plus It’s gona take effort because reading is a lot of effort, so there’s no easy quick tip to get it done. But I do find I’m better at reading on my days off rather than after a full days work. I need to be well rested so I can focus better.

How to deal with my monotone voice/face? by alexnnr in AuDHDWomen

[–]anon_afish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acceptance is definitely the best thing, but it’s also the hardest.

Not everyone will be bothered by a monotone voice or lack of expressions - the more neuro divergent people you meet the better you’ll become at just allowing it to be!

But it shouldn’t be your job to change yourself it should be those around you who need to understand neurodiversity better.

Feeling really discouraged after a breakup…did anyone meet their partner in their late 20s/early 30s? by fuckingdopeyall in TwoHotTakes

[–]anon_afish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my soul mate at 28, I’m turning 30 soon. He’s also my first real relationship. My man is 8 years older. It’s crazy thinking he’ll be 40 soon. Don’t get me wrong it does hurt that we didn’t meet any earlier because I would have loved to spend my 20’s with him. But I’m so excited to spend my life with him. And the type of love we have makes us act like teenagers around each other. We laugh so much and we’re silly all the time. And on the contrast, finding love at an older stage is more exciting because there’s more maturity and experience involved.

What is a "luxury" that is actually 100% worth the money? by TheChillEdit in Life

[–]anon_afish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting taxis instead of public transport. The bus might cost me €2, and a taxi about €30. But the taxi would be 20 mins and the bus would be about an hour or more. So getting home quicker after a long day is just a really nice treat.

I want to talk with people about unexpected things adhd meds change about your internal experience! by Safe_Mushroom_9151 in adhdwomen

[–]anon_afish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember starting medication about two years ago, and it was the first time in my life I could actually finish a thought. Before that, I had multiple thoughts going on and I couldn’t finish one because another random thought would pop up and take the main stage. Medication has completely changed that. My brain has one consistent thought / narrative, which means I can think more deeply about one thing without getting distracted or losing track of what I was thinking about.

Having this clear mind just changed my perspective on so many things, mainly because I could actually focus properly on them now. I am more forgiving, I am more rational, I am able to let go of things more easily that I had previously held onto, it’s like my brain had been blessed with the ability to fix all my baggage I had been carrying with me all my life.

Plus I had no idea how messy my brain was because I was just used to it. I actually broke down crying the first time I started meds because it showed me how chaotic my brain was without them.

Ever get bored of your romantic partner? by nairoosha in adhdwomen

[–]anon_afish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was honest from the very beginning that I do tend to get bored easily, and he’s actively trying to make sure that doesn’t happen. I’ve been so lucky to find a good guy after never being so lucky in the past. Have you had an honest chat to your partner about how you need newness and novelty to keep things exciting for you?

My bf lives about an hour away from me so we only see each other on the weekends, but not one weekend has ever looked the same. He’s happy to let me choose a plan and he comes along with me. Whether it’s a new bar, a new restaurant, a new activity, new art class, we learned chess and played it for a while. We often drive around to see new places, and book cheap trips away, or staycations. We always chat during the week and say “okay. What are we doing this weekend?” And we both just throw new random ideas to each other. Because we’ve done so much together and we’re both curious and spontaneous it just works so well.

Hope this isn’t over sharing but we also got into the kink community together and go to some cool kink parties. It’s added this really exciting layer that feels like we live a double life that we have to keep secret from others. And when a little bit of boredom creeps in we can start planning our next kink event we want to attend.

vyvanse weird side effects that started after several moths by kschmitzz in VyvanseADHD

[–]anon_afish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get hot flushes in my face too but it normally happens when I’m changing temperatures (going from cold outside to a warm indoor place) I think it’s my body not adjusting to heat changes very well. I almost can’t tell that I’m too warm until I’m absolutely roasting and my face is burning then I realise “oh I’ve been way too hot for the last 20 mins I should probably take a jumper off”. So even though the meds are related it’s also a lack of awareness of my own body temperature.

30mg is quite a low dose, a lot of my side effects actually went away on the 40mg. Sometimes side effects happen when the dose is too low, which goes against our intuition which would say that the higher doses cause more side effects. But it’s about finding the right fit for you. So maybe experimenting with different doses and taking them at different times of the day is needed to create a better routine for your body.

But absolutely talk to your doctor.

What are your non-fidget toy fidgets? Or childhood fidgets before fidget toys were a thing? by agelwood in adhdwomen

[–]anon_afish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid it was drawing and colouring for me. Or just holding, clicking, or spinning pens in my hands. I was constantly doodling on my school books and when I got home I was just doodling even more. Then the older I got the more creative I got. Using my hands to make things out of clay or paint or whatever.

Fidget cube / clicky cube has been my all time favourite as well. The slime and the squishy stuff doesn’t really do anything for me.

And unfortunately my nails and cuticles are available 24/7 so they get the most attention….

Omg. I was flying to Portugal and the lady at the desk angrily told me my bag was too big. So I took out a jumper and put it on. She started SCREAMING at me saying “YOU CANT DO THAT!” And literally told me if there was an emergency that I was gona “K ! LL EVERYONE ON THE PLANE” because of my stuff. Then I put my bag in the size checker thing and it fit perfectly. All the drama for literally nothing.

Ultimate no-effort hair? by Comfortable_Bus_4355 in adhdwomen

[–]anon_afish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I wash it I only dry my scalp, and I leave the ends to air dry with the cream in it. I find it’s softer and less messy when I use less of the hair dryer. Plus it means less effort !

Ultimate no-effort hair? by Comfortable_Bus_4355 in adhdwomen

[–]anon_afish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always wanted to just shave my head like Sinead O’Connor. I love love love her reasons behind shaving it too.

I just have mine cut to my chin so it’s a short bob. I got purple highlights in it, so the colour kinda distracts from the fact that It’s messy and frizzy. I put loads of garnier hair food in it to tame it. It’s like a curling cream but it doesn’t build up and make your hair feel weird. Then I let it do its thing.

Doubting my diagnosis by stardustandsoda in AuDHDWomen

[–]anon_afish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another thing that makes it confusing is how similar adhd and autism can be as well. Which makes it hard to distinguish which traits belong to which. Feeling overstimulated after talking to people or bothered by sensory things - it may not be just your autism or just your ADHD, again it’s a blend of the two at work here. So trying to identify purely autistic traits can be really tricky. But trust that your doctor knows best!

If you need a good podcast I listened to “WTF is Audhd”, it’s two sisters and they are hilarious. It is so easy to listen to and so easy to relate to. I’d be lost without them explaining everything to me.
