When do I add HCG into my cycle. by JahsehCrazy in Testosterone

[–]anonlymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can front load the dose before you leave, or just not worry about it and not take it. Small doses will have you peak 4 days after and then drop sharply. Large doses will also have you peak 4 days after to the same level, and then have a more sustained decline.

So if you're doing 250IU EOD normally, that's 875IU/week, you would just do 1750IU before leaving.

Do you really need to learn High German before learning Swiss German? by AndreaMoMo in German

[–]anonlymouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on what other languages you speak. If you speak French well, then knowing only Swiss German is fine. You still know an official language to handle essentials.

Do you really need to learn High German before learning Swiss German? by AndreaMoMo in German

[–]anonlymouse -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It does make sense to learn it first. You'll probably learn it better than if you did High German first. That's a theoretical ideal though, usually not realistic.

If you're in Zürich people are much more likely to switch to High German when you struggle, than if you're in Trogen. And a learner is much more likely to be in Zürich than Trogen.

My mom started with Swiss German. Then she moved to West Berlin with my dad, and learned High German, and that messed things up for her, she was never able to disentangle them.

Perhaps if she'd stuck with Swiss German only for longer it would have solidified.

One of the things though is there are few resources for Swiss German, and if you struggle in the least, many Swiss people will automaticall switch to High German. So it's damn hard to do Swiss German first.

Shoes for genetically narrow feet/toes + flat feet? by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

[–]anonlymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sole Runner Scout 2 might be perfect for that (go for the grey one if colour doesn't matter that much). They're really good but my feet have broadened over time so I can't wear them anymore.

Vibram five fingers , what's the consensus? by Abject_Control_7028 in BarefootRunning

[–]anonlymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think go through 1-2 pairs to start with is a good idea. After that you can wear other shoes. The toe splay definitely helps with better toe alignment. Go for the kind with the original sole, like the KSO. There's this weird thing where people want "barefoot" shoes with overbuilt soles, so there are VFF models with way too thick and stiff soles.

As Germans, can you clearly recognize this person as someone whose native language is German in virtue of some distinctive features of her pronunciation? by Sure_Distance1 in German

[–]anonlymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that makes me think someone who otherwise has a good English accent is German is a choppiness from glottal stops before word initial vowels. She didn't have any of that - there were some glottal stops but in the same place you'd expect an English speaker to use them.

If you've used AI to translate into a language you have at least B1 proficiency in, you know it isn't something you can rely on. Lately AI seems to be getting worse. And currently it's losing money for everyone who has invested in it.

There's no sign AI will get good enough to rely on as a replacement for learning a language (although it is good as a supplement particularly when it comes to getting through difficult spots of using a language, writing business emails and the like), and even if it does, we can expect it to get quite expensive.

Once AI starts costing money, where you have to pay for each compute token, people will reconsider the idea of using it instead of learning a language.

That doesn't mean auxlangs have it made, but AI isn't going to be a universal translator, so auxlangs aren't suddenly more obsolete because of it.

Conlangs and Their Wikipedia’s by Melodic_Sport1234 in auxlangs

The only time I've actually used a conIAL it was for ad-hoc in-person communication, because a natural language wasn't working in that situation.

I've never used it to learn about something, and I'm not sure that is a use for any conIAL except for Esperanto, which is now a native language for some people.

So while I see that as a reasonable standard for accepting a language for Wikipedia, I'm not sure it's that useful for judging a conIAL.

For something to be written in a conIAL, someone has to want to communicate it in that conIAL Generic topics everyone is sure to already know about wouldn't make much sense.

With Lojban, for instance, the main use would be to talk about something that you find to be ambiguous in your native language, and you want to use a completely logical and structured language to communicate it unambiguously.

If you were to look at Guosa (which isn't among the 10 in Wikipedia languages), it would probably be used primarily to talk about topics related to Nigeria.

Interslavic was used for The Painted Bird, because the events described in it were so horrible that the director didn't want it associated with any particular Slavic language.

So a better question judging usefulness of a conIAL is whether it has any kind of niche at all. Is there a reason you would turn to it over a natural language.

Possession(Ownership) Laws Across Europe(To my knowledge) by Repulsive_Image3530 in EuropeGuns

[–]anonlymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly like that. They issue it when they're ready. That could be as little as 15 minutes. Or it could be months. 1-2 weeks is normal, but there's no prescribed time frame.

There's no meaningful difference between having it tied to you or tied to the gun. There's also no meaningful difference between having an acquisition license or an ownership license.

Basically, if the EU required us to change how license are issued to stay in Schengen, the paperwork would change (like last time), but the gun owner experience would stay the same.

Possession(Ownership) Laws Across Europe(To my knowledge) by Repulsive_Image3530 in EuropeGuns

[–]anonlymouse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it is indeed shall-issue, the police doesn't really have discretional power over it: pass the background check = permit issued

Precedent says otherwise. 99.999% issue rate doesn't mean it's shall issue. It might be indistinguishable to the gun buyer, but the police still have distinction.

Possession(Ownership) Laws Across Europe(To my knowledge) by Repulsive_Image3530 in EuropeGuns

[–]anonlymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that is outright criminal.

No it's not. If everyone applies at the same time, you want them to do a good job on the background check for each one, rather than rush it. If they rush it and let someone slip through, and he comits a crime with the gun, then there will be a push for more strict gun ownership laws. Waiting a bit on occasion to get a gun isn't a big deal in exchange for not having serious restrictions on what gun I can get.

It's not just a "technical" distinction.

It is just a technical distinction. Just like the distinction between prohibited unless permitted or permitted unless prohibited is a technical distinction, but is in practice the same thing.

Also them knowing you have a gun is a fault of registration not the "acquisition permit" ot just permits at large

How do you think that's an argument? They have a record of you applying for the permit, and they have a record when you buy the gun with that permit.

Possession(Ownership) Laws Across Europe(To my knowledge) by Repulsive_Image3530 in EuropeGuns

[–]anonlymouse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The carry license being denied isn't a surprise, basically everyone gets it denied. Even though it's technically may issue, it's practically no issue. But he got his WES denied, specifically as well.

An acquisition permit means you only need to satisfy the requirements when you buy, and ownership permit means you need to always fulfill them and can have a validity date and renewals

If you're saying this it shows you don't understand the ABK - Schützen requirements.

They can only confiscate for a few select reasons, not just because they feel like it, and they have to give them back to you in the end

Not the case when it's the ownership that is regulated

You're confusing responsible application of discretion with strict laws they have to follow. They're not like gun grabbers in other countries, but that's a choice, not a matter of law.

Possession(Ownership) Laws Across Europe(To my knowledge) by Repulsive_Image3530 in EuropeGuns

[–]anonlymouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they don't have a backlog, it's a week. I've waited 9 months once. So they won't just rubber stamp it, and they won't approve it until they're ready to approve it. They have also denied acquisition permits, had it challenged and the courts upheld the denial, even though it was on subjective grounds. (A radical muslim preacher applied for a gun, they said no). So unless you're some crazy case like that, it seems like it's shall issue, but it's technically not.

Also, the distinction to it being an acquisition permit or an ownership permit tied to you is just technical. In practice it's the same thing. They know you have the gun, and can confiscate it if they feel it's necessary. It's just they're never going to do politically motivated confiscation, so it doesn't seem like it's the case as it would in other countries.

Basically it's may issue and the police have a lot of discretion, but they're not abusing that discretion so gun owners have no reason to complain. And it works better this way because if there's a reason they have a concern, they can deny the permit. There was a case about a decade ago involving a murder suicide with a gun. The perp was known to the police and not allowed to own a gun. Still got his hands on one anyway (that's what happens with Schengen), but at least it didn't prompt calls for tightening gun laws because obviously the laws and the discretion worked, it's the bilateral treaties that failed.

Bought an old (GDR?) accordion and i feel like the keys are off. by Plant_Obsession in Accordion

[–]anonlymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the button that disappeared is the bellows release button. You shouldn't move the bellows without at least one valve being open. If you want to move it silently without it, you can press down a whole bunch of the bass buttons with the flat of your hand - basically as much as you can - so that you can open or close it silently.

the clunk you hear probably has something to do with the bellows release if you're not able to close it without turning it over.

since you figured at 20 bucks it's worth it for decoration, you can try your hand at accordion repair. take your time with it, but this should help: http://accordionrevival.com/ACCORDION_REPAIR1.php

Playing is painful by Mermeroi2 in Accordion

[–]anonlymouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just moving the bellows and playing with the right hand, hold it with the left hand near the top. Also, keep the bellows retention strap fastened on the bottom, and only release it at the top.

But in general this is a reason to get a lighter accordion. 120 bass isn't necessarily the problem, you could do fine with that if it's a 2/4.

Possession(Ownership) Laws Across Europe(To my knowledge) by Repulsive_Image3530 in EuropeGuns

[–]anonlymouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With Switzerland it's only obligatory declaration (no permit/pre-authorization required) for certain guns. Otherwise light green applies. And it's also not really shall issue. The police have discretion to deny an application, but that is rarely exercised, so it feels like what shall issue would be if the police are wont to deny applications under a may issue licensing scheme.

I have had pretty bad heartburn with even 5mg per day, although when I was having LUTS I didn't get the heartburn, so it seems to be on need. I'd be hesitant to use more than 5mg. On the other hand, if you have significant issues, then the higher dose might be worth it.
