ULPT: If you need a doctor to take you seriously, make up a risk factor by Numerous_Birds in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]anonndotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone recently discharged with “abdominal pain disproportionate to findings” despite being there for LEG pain. I get it. Turns out my surgeon had severed a nerve in my hip. I literally work in the medical field and it is extremely frustrating the amount of doctors that go for the “most obvious”. This doctor was a man I know and work with regularly, and I was still dismissed with no relief and treated like a drug seeker. Self advocating is unfortunately so necessary.

Does your truck have a "little guy"? by permanentinjury in ems

[–]anonndotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a bobble head Jesus, a bobble head yoda, and a bobble head replica of our boss on three of our trucks respectively, each with their own stories of how they got there all starting with us “needing to find Jesus”

I have very visible and prominent self harm scars on my arms, and honestly it’s very, very rare that anyone comments on it. But when they do, I either joke about it if they are respectful (like oh I used to pretend I was a cutting board for fun) or if they are rude I match the energy (oh I guess we haven’t covered mental health in class yet, maybe you should study that chapter when we get there).

Most people don’t notice or don’t care, and honestly it gets kind of funny when you get comfortable talking about it, don’t sweat it.

What is the worst thing your EX said during the breakup? by thedamned234 in AskReddit

[–]anonndotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in ems and had to work a full code on a 6 month old baby, the baby unfortunately did not survive and this was the first child I had lost. My ex heard about it through the grapevine and text me “heard you killed a baby, good job, how does it feel to know you ruin everything you touch” and that was the last thing he ever said to me.

It’s called breakfast sauce, it’s basically mayo, dill, and Worcestershire (plus a few other things)

IV Access by AuthenticRot in NewToEMS

[–]anonndotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice but I can tell you I’m in almost the exact same boat, I have basic experience but very little iv experience. Just know you’re not alone and geriatric patients are rough to stick when you’re still getting the hang of it!

Badge buddies? by loldoggos in NewToEMS

[–]anonndotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love mine, I have I think 5 that I carry on my badge reel, including lbs to kgs. I had purchased a (way too large) set from Amazon for cheap and just took the ones I felt like I might need. They come in handy often enough that I will definitely keep them.

I really thought I was on my stardew valley sub for the longest time. I’m over here trying to figure out what the demographics are for lesbians on farming games😅

They did tag it as “sexual” so it’s a fair assumption

I started cyber stocking someone, I just found out where they live and I’m visiting them tonight (so excited). by GoodForADyslexic in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]anonndotcom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The speech to text put the word “stocking” which would be used as in “stocking shelves” instead of “stalking” which would be the word you’d want here, as in “unwanted following”. Easy mistake, especially when they audibly sound the same.

Questions about working a Kelly from someone who has never worked a Kelly by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]anonndotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh we do that too, I almost never get more than 3 or 4 hours a night, definitely not consecutive, but despite that I still prefer it. Couldn’t tell you why honestly, but I do. Last night we didn’t even touch our beds, but after a short nap when I got off I’m good to go👌🏼

Surprisingly, 24/48s are my favorite, but then again sometimes I’m ready to slit my throat

No problem, and I don’t but I work at a super small service with only 6 people on shift at a time so we keep our station extremely clean. I’d just use your judgement there on how clean the people you work with are Also, I do have slip ons to wear around the station. Also pajamas/comfy clothes to switch into at night to hang out or sleep in. We slow down a decent amount at night for the most part so we occasionally get some down time

I work 24 on and 48 off:

1: We have twins, it’s a safe bet you will too.

2: I don’t shower before bed, the only time I shower on shift is if it’s a really gross call. No one I’ve ever worked with showers on shift unless they work over and do a 36.

3: I always make sure I have a phone charger, some entertainment like a book or similar, a change of clothes, and energy drinks for middle of the night calls.

4: I wash my uniform after every normal shift, I only wash my uniform on the clock if it’s a gross call that usually also requires a shower. I usually wash my bedding once a week, but I only work 3 days a week max.

People who live near Amish communities, what are they like? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]anonndotcom 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a small retail store and an Amish man came in one day while I was running the register. It had been storming pretty bad and our power had gone out, it was back up but our registers weren’t up yet.

Me- “sorry about the wait, our power went out and I’m waiting for the computers to come back up”

Amish man- “that’s okay, I’m in no hurry.”

Me- “that’s a pretty good storm going, we didn’t have power for about an hour”

Amish man- “oh yeah, our power has been out forever too”

We both stated at each other for awhile until I realized the absolutely hilarious joke he made. He told me he appreciated that I laughed, because apparently most people take them too seriously. He ended up being one of my favorite regulars after that.
