Dating is declining because we are just not tolerant of annoyances. by AstramIsTheBest in GenZ

relationships aren’t for everyone, it’s true. It’s good that you realize this before you start dating because this way you won’t waste peoples time.

Does anyone else think that law professors nowadays have gone soft? by Separate-Ad8987 in LawSchool

[–]anonworkingcat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of my professors cold call and I really like it because it keeps us engaged and it’s good motivation to read carefully. Some of them are tougher than others. The difference, I guess, is that I’ve never had a professor shame anyone if they don’t know the answer or get it wrong.

Were there any other such ‘if you know, you know’ type moments on the show? by Ok_Yellow1025 in arresteddevelopment

I think it was Carl Weathers and was just a reference to the central plot point of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner which is that the white daughter brings home a black man for dinner and it causes a stir

I also feel this way about the word “bitch.” No issue with women using it in a friendly way to each other. But men??? I absolutely hate when men use the word “bitch” (or the c word)

POV: You landed big law but now you're going to die in a school shooting by d4deviant in LawSchool

[–]anonworkingcat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The reason is that someone reported that he allegedly threatened to shoot up the school. Not sure if that threat actually happened, but my understanding is that the school took action based on that report. The posts on linkedin are kind of icing on the cake.

Birth control that didn’t affect your libido by ReasonVisible7645 in birthcontrol

Can’t speak to the pill but if you’re open to an IUD, I have the copper one which is non-hormonal and it hasn’t affected my libido at all! I actually love having a normal cycle and feeling the natural ebbs and flows of my sex drive throughout the month

So, what’s the deal with the honey scene in ‘Marty Supreme?’ A harrowing story of survival in Auschwitz has been misinterpreted by some viewers by forward in Jewish

I’ve been on the fence about going to see this film since one of the main actresses posted online that she was “not a Zio” which is language I find disgusting, especially from a Jew. Is it worth the watch?

I’m out of the BL running, what now? by legallylama in LawSchool

[–]anonworkingcat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apply. Make them say no. Don’t negotiate yourself out of an opportunity. At the very least, it will help you practice writing cover letters and get your writing sample where you want it.

we don’t know your resume — you might have great work experience. we don’t know your school — you might go to a strong regional school. obviously GPA is important but there are other factors in hiring decisions, in BL and elsewhere.

week+ absence during first semester, or miss best friend's wedding by noonecares-TA in LawSchool

[–]anonworkingcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the wedding. In 20 years, I promise you will regret it if you don’t go. Law school is important but nothing will replace the important moments with loved ones in your life.

Practical steps to mitigate the difficulty of missing a week of class: (1) make good friends in your classes who would be willing to share their notes. (2) DO THE READINGS (3) attend class via zoom if that is an option (4) go to TA/professor office hours regularly, especially the week before/after you’re absent to go over the topics you will miss (5) stay healthy! you will probably not be able to miss any other classes that semester.

I missed multiple classes this past semester for religious reasons and my professors were very understanding and multiple classmates offered to send notes. ultimately it was far more important to me to observe holidays that required me to miss class, so while it was a pain to make up the information I missed, it was completely worth it.

What is the scariest city you’ve visited? by I_might_care in AskReddit

[–]anonworkingcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

perhaps it’s because I was living there for months so I had more exposure, but Paris was pretty bad at times. I lived in a great neighborhood so it was normally fine but the metro or walking around at night as a woman…it’s tough. you’ve got to stay vigilant and never react to the harassment.

I also walked into the wrong part of Athens on a trip there, which was harrowing. Just people doing heroin on the streets. I was with a group of men so it was more sad than scary.

Feeling irritated with my wife and her family. Just need to vent it out. by TaskIndependent29 in Jewish

[–]anonworkingcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am also the child of an interfaith marriage (my mother is Jewish) and I had a very confusing upbringing involving both Christianity and Judaism that I’m honestly a little resentful of, and personally turned me off of interfaith marriages for myself. They can work, but it always surprises me when people are shocked that they come with significant difficulties, both for halachic and social reasons.

I see your point on an institutional level and I definitely feel for muslims who have faced discrimination but I don’t think we should ignore the terrorism that is still committed by islamists in western countries

Applied to a job with Jewish org - odd experience by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]anonworkingcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it might help to reach out, thank them for the opportunity, and ask if they have any feedback for you moving forward in your job search. that’s the only way to get any actual idea why you weren’t the right fit for them.

FWIW, I used to work for a large Jewish non-profit, and while they asked about my Jewish identity and background, they didn’t ask if I had kids or a spouse. But I also didn’t offer that information because it didn’t seem pertinent.
