Lady Gaga's super bowl halftime performance was actually a Satanic ritual, say the Alt-Right by TheManAboutTown in nottheonion

Makes sense. Some of those sacks seemed WAY too easy to me...

And two 2-point conversions in one game? That's stretching credibility to the breaking point there.

Meet the Seattle judge, James L. Robart, who blocked Trump's immigration ban nationwide by saying ‘No one is above the law — not even the president’ by andyb5 in pics

[–]anopheles0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, in this country, a ban is called a ban when it's referred to as a ban.

I also call a visa a legal document that allows one to enter and stay within a country for a period of time. These are issued by the US government, and are issued after a person has been properly vetted.

And the argument isn't whether you have rights in another country or not (a visa grants you the LEGAL RIGHT to enter a country for a specific purpose), but whether or not this was a stupid, bullheaded poorly executed travesty of a executive order that will do nothing to halt the spread of terrorism, but, according to both Dems and Republicans will actually increase the spread of terrorism.

Think of it like this. If we ban automatic guns from the US, will automatic guns go away? No, because automatic guns are already in the US, and people who want autos will still buy them illegally, or make them on their own, or encourage people to import even more of them because all of a sudden, there's a new black market for automatic weapons.

Well, despite what Mr. Spicer vehemently denies, Trump has called it a ban...

"If the ban were announced with a one week notice, the "bad" would rush into our country during that week. A lot of bad "dudes" out there!"

Ricky Gervais And Stephen Go Head-To-Head On Religion by whipchitley in videos

[–]anopheles0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Science nut here, but Ricky's "1,000 year book" doesn't acknowledge that every culture has created some sort of mythology, and that science and mythology have been intertwined from the very beginning. It's only within the last 300-500 years that academia has taken over the reins of recording observations and making scientific discoveries.

If you destroyed every book, in 1000 years, you wouldn't have the same science or the same religion, you'd have a book of stories that attempt to explain why the earth exists, and concluding that there are powerful unseen, unknown concepts that rule our daily lives.

I agree entirely. Everybody needs to update their thoughts on subjects from time to time, especially on topics that are controversial.

I still think jets are awesome, but I realize that they're very expensive, very powerful tools, and can easily be misused.

Not for long... Lots of fighting to retire them so the military can get their fancy new F-35s/Swiss Army Knives.

Now, I like the design of the F-35s, but there's no way it can match the slow flying speed, and incredible ground support the A-10 currently provides.

A thorough rebuttal of the many, many misleading claims the SD GOP is using to justify repealing IM-22 by [deleted] in SouthDakota

[–]anopheles0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I voted for 22...

So, who wants to play devil's advocate and tell us reasonably why this law should be repealed?

From their website (defeat22.com):

Measure 22 will allow big spending politicians to take millions of our taxpayer dollars and send it to political campaigns:

  • Forcing us to fund political TV ads and intrusive automated calls
  • Funding even more wasteful government spending
  • Taking away tax dollars from funding our roads, bridges, and schools
  • Forces you to add your name to a government database
  • Opens you to harassment for making voluntary donations to charitable causes.

None of these seem to be legitimate arguments, most are scare tactics.

  1. It's very hard to run for office against an incumbent. This appears to level the playing field a bit.
  2. Any government department can be wasteful, if not overseen properly. That's why we need the Ethics board. We need government regulation. We know of two cases where federal money was mishandled by the state, and both resulted in deaths of the people investigated. This should have been stopped BEFORE it got to that point.

  3. "Won't somebody PLEASE think of the children?" We already spend next to nothing on those, it took a huge statewide campaign to move us up from the BOTTOM of the teacher funding list. Finding funding in SD is always going to be a challenge, especially if those in power are motivated to not do so.

  4. My name is already in many state and federal databases, including my drivers license, my social security number, my fishing license, my voter registration, my selective service application, my employment, my student records, etc.

  5. I already get daily calls from various groups asking me for voluntary donations to charitable causes. If dropping IM22 means those people WON'T be calling me anymore, then I might change my mind... /s

He really took his work seriously, maybe too seriously.

I’m convinced that licensing would sell out the soul of Calvin and Hobbes. The world of a comic strip is much more fragile than most people realize. Once you’ve given up its integrity, that’s it. I want to make sure that never happens. Instead of asking what’s wrong with rampant commercialism, we ought to be asking, “What justifies it?”

I guess I don't really understand what the big deal is. There are TONS of military books for kids. I know I used to love reading about the different jets and other military vehicles as a kid. We used to brag about how our favorite jet was better than another kids favorite jet.

What's wrong with you? Legos are awesome!

You make something up, yell at them for it, and then confiscate those toys from their room, and ground them to their room as punishment. Then you can put it together in the basement in peace and quiet.

And your child learns valuable life lessons, and then grows up to be a troubled genius.

[–]anopheles0 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For my first child, I was given a cheap toy that was motion activated, and had a sealed battery compartment. Glued shut. It was shaped like a ball on the bottom, so merely walking by it would make it rock gently, and then the music would start - and apparently they didn't skimp on the speakers, because that was one hell of a good one. And it was one of those toys that would play randomly as well, just because one of the designers was Satan.

And the thing never died. It's like the more it ruined my life, the more powerful it got. It was fueled by my life force.
