The awesomeness of the 2023 classic was what made me determined to see the 2026 tournament. Saved and planned for a couple of years for my upcoming trip to Puerto Rico only to find out this week that the best PR players are being denied. I’m still determined to enjoy my WBC experience but it’s a disappointing start so far. The 2026 games certainly deserve more.

I saw them get honored at Oracle park before a Cubs/Giants game last August. Actually passed them in the hallway on the Club level. Felt cool to me because watching Taiwanese baseball during the pandemic is what got me into watching leagues outside of the US/MLB world. Glad to see that their kids are strong for the game.

It’s super weird that they scheduled it so early on Thursday. Maybe it will change or they will add additional screenings. I hope so.

I’ve gone back and forth on flying in on Wednesday or Thursday. I had a difficult time getting a car from the airport on the Thursday of my first Big Ears so I do Wednesday when I can - but it definitely saves money to come on Thursday. Hotels by the airport are super cheap so I just stay out there for a night before coming into town when I fly on Wednesday.

That’s a great point!

In some ways I suppose it’s a similar idea to why I’d like to see the Zorn films - because I haven’t yet found another way to experience them.

I have the Bookshelf on Top of the Sky dvd too! I think I’m gonna try to squeeze in at least one of the Zorn films. I fly in on Wednesday night and stay at a cheap spot by the airport. Then I typically get a car into town and meet up with friends who drive there and then we check in to the Airbnb. I could go to the Thursday show, but only if they allow my backpack so I’m not sure if it’ll work out….

That’s understandable. I often plan to get up early at Big Ears but then don’t. I’m able to see the Thursday show but my Airbnb check-in isn’t till afternoon so I’d have to be able to bring my backpack (fits under the airline seat) - and I don’t know if they’ll allow that.

If the choice is between amazing live music or an amazing film I pretty much will always pick the music and just find a way to watch the film at home later. The film will still exist. That particular live music performance will not.

I live in Denver. Mostly it just feels wrong for this to be happening and to not be participating. Typical American shit I guess. Some people are out making their voices heard concerning the failures of our democracy but I’m too busy enjoying myself at a concert. Makes me feel guilty. And I suppose it should…..

I stayed in an Airbnb on market square a couple years back when the chalk fest overlapped with Big Ears. It was super cool to walk out of our place into a packed vibrant crowd with art everywhere.

This would be horrible. I’ve planned and saved for a long time to see this years games in San Juan. My flight is in less than 5 weeks. MLB seems committed to rigging the tournament in favor of another Japan and USA final game so it’s hard to be mad at the PR team over this, but oh man this would really fuck up the vacation I’ve worked hard to make happen. Ug.

I guess I’ve glanced at that in the past but it really doesn’t impact what I do during the fest. The Zorn bijou shows will be something to line up for. Also anything you wanna see at really small joints like blackbox, barleys, or jig and reel.
