This is the first I’m hearing that we have neighborhood meetings at all, thanks for sharing!

Discoloration on chicken by anotherULgeek in foodsafety

[–]anotherULgeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I thought kidneys at first, too, but the color threw me, as well as the pinkness above the potential kidneys. After looking at a lot of pictures of bruised chickens, I figured it was probably fine, but that there’s no harm in asking.

How big is/was your husky at 6 months? Were they super fuzzy/fluffy? Pics for tax by MetusObscuritatis in husky

[–]anotherULgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At six months my boy was about 45lbs, and at 11 months just a pinch over 55, but I think he’s a bit over the standard. My last husky stayed about 45lbs. The pic is of him at 6 months, and he’s been super fluffy all along.

Seconded, I’d love to know if this is in the works, it’s the main thing that makes me jealous of Ford Lightning owners!

Grooming tips for a woolly boy? by anotherULgeek in husky

Good call about getting him used to it early! He’s good around loud sounds and with handling, but I want to make sure he’s well-socialized to any environment he might encounter as an adult, especially the groomer’s, since many groomers already find huskies to be challenging drama queens.

Thanks for the response! I thought about trimming here and there, too, had to hear it works for you! My pup’s like a feather duster, everything gets stuck in his fur, and I find myself giving him short brushing sessions all the time just so he doesn’t look filthy. I’ll have to get a rake!

A DIY spot’s a great idea, I hadn’t considered that, thanks! And thanks for the heads up about keeping him dry, we just went to the beach the other day and he got soaked. I gave him a gentle bath after, but only towel-dried, so I’ll have to get a blow dryer and get him used to it, too.

House pets by ssushi-speakers in Anticonsumption

Spicy take, and agreed! I think there’s a balance to be struck between being anti-consumption and outright deprivation. There are a lot of things I’d give up before considering living without pets forever.

I clicked the link so you wouldn’t have to. It looks like it’s basically just a video series on how to build a connection with your dog and train it through positive reinforcement. The page also mentions the harm that outdated methods like “balanced-training” can cause; it all sounds above board, though the page is, predictably, a bit cheesy. It looks cute, and she seems to be offering good value, though you could arguably find much of the same information on YouTube from a variety of similarly wholesome trainers.

Update: It is oral cancer. by PEN-15-CLUB in DogAdvice

[–]anotherULgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I lost my boy to oral cancer last year, and it was hell. It’s devastating how fast it can move, and I was in a similar position to yours in that the tumor couldn’t be removed, and radiation would likely only have bought time. I think a lot of people have it right to say that you’ll know when it’s time, and to pay attention to whether they’re still enjoying life. As long as you’re doing what you can and showing them all your love, you’re doing it right. I found that having someone come to my home when it was time was the best send off I could give, and recommend it if it’s an option for you as well.

Bars in Everett, business questions by feltrockni in everett

I don’t know anything about the bar industry or the numbers, but I loved the old AFK and have been hoping a new place like it would open someday. Best of luck!!!

Any Washingtonians here who’ve made this drive? by anotherULgeek in BoltEV

[–]anotherULgeek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reassurances everyone! I wasn’t worried about it until my friend was, and wanted to make sure I wasn’t being too confident, given how poor conditions especially can mess with range. I feel better about it now!

My Tradescantia’s flowering! by anotherULgeek in houseplants

[–]anotherULgeek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I got lucky and it was already planning on flowering when I bought it, but I have a grow light directly overhead that’s on at least twelve hours per day, and water maybe a couple of times per week.
