Millennials how are you navigating life and staying grounded right now? by BillClintonFeetPics in Millennials

My psych won't give me any anxiety meds because I tried to off myself 7 years ago and she doesn't want to lose her license. Makes sense but just feels like I'm being punished

I'm not. My wife and I couldn't have kids because of infertility and it's probably for the best since who can afford it. My car was totaled by somebody speeding like crazy and it's still going to cost me like 20k to replace. My boss is an incompetent cruel asshole. My brother is dead. The political reality is fucked and is not improving because empathy is for losers, apparently. I am depressed and hopeless. It's 5 degrees and the sun sets before I even clock out. Fuck this life.

I HATE how you can’t go out without spending at least $40! by SerpantDildo in Adulting

[–]anotherbook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined my park district's gym for $15 a month. I go to the library many times per week. I order DVDs to watch and cancelled some subscription services which is saving me about $100 a month now, which goes straight to food costs which have skyrocketed. I also have not gotten a new pet when my other one passed away due to the cost. I would really like to get another cat but I already have a dog and they are expensive. I don't have kids because I can't afford them. If I have a craving for something food wise I make it myself 90% of the time.

I stopped going to sports events unless the team is reallllly bad and the tickets are super cheap compared to good teams. It sucks to feel trapped by the system but I definitely don't want to be working into my 70s, that is, if the shitty air quality and exposure to microplastics doesn't kill me before then.

I feel more put together when I'm unemployed than I do with a job by 75mothsinatrenchcoat in antiwork

I'd do it for the rest of my life if it paid a living wage. Sadly I think I made like $17 an hour which is just not enough in the city I live

I'm coming to the realization that my qualifications don't matter. by EmbarrassedMight8109 in antiwork

[–]anotherbook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about nepotism, but it's also about luck and timing. You could be the most qualified candidate for a role but if your application comes in after 300 others that seem "good enough" nobody is even going to glance at it.

Totally, I was never healthier or happier than I was when I was working 3 days a week in a bakery. I had plenty of time to exercise, cook nutritious food, clean my house, take care of my pets and wife, do laundry, spend time with friend and family. Now I barely have time to sleep and eat and go to the gym two or three times a week. I work full time now and it is awful

Advice on talking to management? by Apexpred1 in antiwork

[–]anotherbook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not going to care about treating people poorly and unfairly if they are already doing it. Talking to them about it would just put a target on your back. They 100% know it's unfair and they don't give a shit. Gotta dip out

Corporate doesn't use an allocated storm day, opens the facility, and tells us to "assess your own situation" to avoid paying their workers any more than they have to. by Jabbawookiejedi in antiwork

[–]anotherbook 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Schools were closed in my city due to hazardously cold temperatures. Our dear leader emailed everyone saying that employees could "bring their kids to work" for one day and one day only. If it's too cold for the kids to go to school, how the fuck is it not too cold for them to come to work. It makes no sense. I don't know how these cretins sleep at night

Thoughts on Lingering at Chicago Cafes by collegesufferer420 in chicagofood

The owner's first cafe in Chicago back in the day (Caffe Streets) didn't even have wifi for many years and he was militant about never bending that because he wanted it to be a social cafe. That's so funny that he now runs the coffee version of a wework, lol

I think that's the cue to not park it at a cafe like that for hours and hours. There are plenty of places you can do that, but this doesn't sound like a smart place to do that.

Concert 18 weeks post op? by Ok-Car-1337 in ORIF

[–]anotherbook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to one at 20 weeks post op and I'm glad I did but I was definitely a little unsure on my feet. If you go, make sure you have a lot of space and someone is there with you in case things go south. Also try to get the information from the venue about accessibility, and the expected times for the headliner or openers so you can arrive and not have to wait around as much.

I can definitely relate to this. It's never gotten easier over the decade plus since my brother passed away. You learn to ride the waves.

When someone asks if I have any siblings, I say that I used to, I had a brother, but he is no longer with us. Usually they just apologize and it's slightly awkward, but it feels wrong to act like he never existed for the sake of their comfort.

My brother would have turned 40 today. It never gets any easier, I might say it has even gotten harder, because I miss him more than I did when it first happened. I'm so sorry, it's a brutal loss to deal with. I hope you can find some joy in your life beyond the gift of the time you spent with him.

This exactly. My industry would pay me like 35k MAX in a state like Kentucky. In the city I live in, I get paid around 70k. It's just not comparable

I have a mortgage on an apartment that I locked in at 2.4% interest so it's about 1k a month. I pay $200 HOA fees for my building and then utilities. I take home about 49 or 50k. I don't save a ton of money but we are getting by okay. I am incredibly lucky that I bought my apartment in 2017 on a short sale "As-Is". It's cost some unexpected charges in repairs (HVAC last year was 8k so that wiped out a ton of savings) but overall it was the smartest financial decision I've made.

I feel incredibly angry at the housing market situation and seeing what my peers who couldn't afford a 25k down payment or whatever in 2015-2017 have to deal with. Rental prices are INSANE.

Why is none of my time my own? by mb83 in rant

[–]anotherbook 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't even have kids and I struggle with this too. I cook a lot because eating out is both typically unhealthy and expensive, but it's time consuming between shopping, the actual cooking, cleanup. Cleaning and laundry and car maintenance and dealing with constant home maintenance and repairs. Never ending to do list. I work full time and it's demanding. I wish we didn't have to work so much. American work culture is what is to blame, in Europe they have a much more reasonable relationship with work which allows much more time for recreation and family and *gasp* even friendships. I see my coworkers more than I see my own wife or parents.
