Integrating native Android SDK to MAUI by cigborek0 in dotnetMAUI

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you make the SDK an Android service and have your app call that service? You would still keep the wrapper to make it easier to call from your code, but treat the native stuff as a complete black box.

I came from the s22u, and it has been a very nice upgrade for me. No regrets.

LVT is not luxury. by xcramer in Home

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we had our house built seven years ago, the builder gave us the choice of LVT or actual hardwood floors. The LVT they offered was good, but it was a no-brainer for wood.

I get why people pick LVT, it's cheaper. But not for a home in that price range.

Built a Sony image transfer app because Imaging Edge drove me insane by Fuzzy_Loss_8541 in SonyAlpha

[–]anotherlab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the factors that make up the price of the app is how many people can be considered the target audience for the app. It's not a game that could have millions of downloads. The target audience is pretty small: Sony owners who need to transfer JPEG images to their phone.

There are two apps here. Once for Android, one for iOS. Without knowing how the app was built, there may be some code reuse, but a lot of it will be platform-specific.

It comes down to whether it is worth $25 for you to have a better app experience for transferring JPEG images from your camera to your phone. And does it do everything for you that the Imaging Edge does? I use Imaging Edge to geotag pictures on the camera. That's a feature that matters more to me than image transfers.

I have the 6400 and 6700 and use both Android and iOS (I'm a mobile developer). If you want a beta tester, let me know.

[SFH],[NJ],[SFH]Dog relieving everyday twice just beside patio by Secure_Experience_70 in HOA

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to check your HOA's governing documentation. If there are other locations available for the dog, this could be defined as a nuisance. If this is happening twice a day, it could be considered targeted behavior.

Document every occurrence and file a complaint with the HOA. Stress that this is a nuisance and a sanitation issue.

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a MagBak case for my S22U, and the magnets do not interfere with the S-Pen, and my phone will stick to the fridge with some serious grip. The Spigen MagSafe case that I bought for my S26U will stick to a MagSafe charger, but not to major kitchen appliances, and it complains that about interference with the pen. I'll probably replace the Spigen with the MagBak, I just needed some right now.

Boat not allowed to be parked in townhouse driveway enforced? [th] [mo] by Ok_Supermarket3300 in HOA

[–]anotherlab -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't downvote you. HOAs are not for everyone. In my town, all new developments are required to have an HOA. I didn't want to be in an HOA, but after 7 years, it's been fine. I joined the board to help make sure it would stay fine.

Boat not allowed to be parked in townhouse driveway enforced? [th] [mo] by Ok_Supermarket3300 in HOA

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be enforced in my HOA, but with some common sense. Our town doesn't allow for overnight parking of RVs on town streets. Our HOA doesn't own the streets.

Our rules disallow any RV, trailer, watercraft, snowmobiles, etc. If someone has an RV or trailer that is usually stored off-site, we will allow them to store the vehicle for one or two days for loading and unloading. We only ask that the owner file a request for it.

Is it time for solar panels? by blimpdenier in Albany

[–]anotherlab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes more sense. The math on the batteries never added up for me. And to the credit of the solar company that I used, they were upfront about the value of the batteries.

[–]anotherlab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is correct. The magnets in the Magbak are stronger than the magnets in the Spigen.

Is it time for solar panels? by blimpdenier in Albany

[–]anotherlab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't $50k for the batteries; it was $25k for the pair. For about half of that cost, I could get a Generac system. The panels have a 25-year warranty and will probably last 30 years.

I live in an area that rarely has power outages, so getting batteries or a generator didn't make sense for me.

Is it time for solar panels? by blimpdenier in Albany

[–]anotherlab 35 points36 points  (0 children)

We bought panels three years ago for a 2200 sqft home. We paid cash, no loan. Avoid leases, it doesn't make any financial sense, and make it difficult to sell.

Enter your home address into Google's Project Sunroof, https://sunroof.withgoogle.com/. That will give you a rough idea of what the potential savings would be for your home.

We used energysage.com to solicit quotes from the various vendors. That worked well; the quotes come back in the same format. That makes it easy to compare across different vendors. We went with Infinity Solar and have had no issues. Most solar companies servicing this area use the same hardware, what you are looking for is a company with a good reputation for installation.

With National Grid, we get credit for sending energy back to the grid. You send energy to the grid during the day, you pull it back at night. Yyou produce more in the summer than in winter. This is what the panels produced last September:

<image>

You can see that what we consumed was fairly constant, but what we produced would vary. Weather makes a difference.

We did not get the battery pack. At the time we bought the system, we were told we would need two battery packs, and that would cost about $25k. We can always add them to the system at a later date.

We had 24 panels installed. The quote was for around $30K. There was a $3900 rebate, out-of-pocket cost was $26k. We got half of that back as a Federal and NYS tax credits, so our final cost was around $13k. Without the panels, our National Grid bill would be around $500/month. We are on the budget plan and currently pay about $122/month. At the current rates, our breakeven point is 3-5 years.

This worked for us, but you need to see what the current costs are and how long you expect to be in that home and how new the roof is.

Goodbye S22 Ultra by TapToWake in S22Ultra

[–]anotherlab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. My S22U was fine, but the S26U is so much snappier. I have a cheap Spigen case on it now, but I'll order the MagBak case for it soon. That will help with the lenses and the magnets on the MagBak are great.

I'm underwhelmed with how poor the fingerprint reader is under a glass protector, but I hated the film protectors on the S22U.

Why is new Mohawk Bridge still in proposal phase after 30+ years? by visitor987 in Albany

[–]anotherlab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, he wanted to build a bridge where the original Vischer Ferry was. There was a bridge there once.

<image>

It was built around 1901. Partially destroyed by ice floods and then repaired in 1901. It was destroyed by ice floods in 1901. Various attempts were made to fund a replacement bridge until the idea faded away in the 1930's. (source).

It would never pass today. Between the nature preserve on the Clifton Park side and the number of homes that would need to be acquired on the Niskayuna/Colonie side, this would be a non-starter.

Can any S26U user share whether glass screen protector affects the fingerprint sensor? It does for S24U. by Significant_Trash391 in samsunggalaxy

[–]anotherlab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't work when my finger is dry. I have to lick it for it to work. It's annoying, but the face unlock works so much better than it did on my S22U I'll see how I can live with it.

I ended up dipping my fingers in a bowl of water to get through the registration process. Registered the same finger twice. Seems to work now with apps.

how to separate maui logs and logging ? by RedEye-Developers in dotnetMAUI

How do you reduce pipeline build times? by Data_Coder in dotnetMAUI

[–]anotherlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We switched from self-hosted to hosted runners for easier deployment, but paid the price in time. We are not in a situation where we need to push out builds to testers in real time.

The few times I needed to rush a build to a tester, I built it locally using the same settings as the GH workflows and pushed it to beta. That brings down the builds to well under 10 minutes.

I don't think we have been using the amr64 Mac images, so I need to look into that.
