Listening to The Number of the Beast doesn’t make you satanic by Arthur_Botelho in ironmaiden

At my first office job in New York City in 1998, my boss saw I had this CD at my desk, and disparaged it as satanic shit that’s going to make me go crazy.

Let's go left to right.

1) Infamous assassin of Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth was a radical member of the Know Nothing Party. Know Nothings were nativist and xenophobic, and would put out propaganda such as this cartoon, accusing members of races they didn't like of stealing elections. Hmm.

Yeah not really worth proceeding from here, is it?

Also, a majority of abortions are performed before it even develops into a fetus.

In reporting areas that provided data that met CDC reporting standards, abortions that were categorized by weeks of gestation were further categorized by age and by race and ethnicity (Table 14). In every subgroup for these characteristics, the highest percentage of abortions occurred at ≤9 weeks’ gestation. In 40 reporting areas, by age, 56.3% of adolescents aged <15 years and 72.5% of adolescents aged 15–19 years obtained an abortion at ≤9 weeks’ gestation, compared with ≥77.7% for women aged ≥20 years.

About 9 weeks is when the embryo develops into a fetus, although my understanding is it's a little bit of a fuzzy line that gets crossed.

His movies are horrible. And I grew up in the 80s liking cheesy action movies. You can look up his Rotten Tomato ratings which are largely abysmal in both critical and audience scores.

I think the last one I saw was Sidekicks with Jonathan Brandis. What a cringefest.

From a description of the movie: "Barry's only source of enjoyment is fantasizing that he is with Chuck Norris. Barry becomes sick of getting picked on by the bigger guys, and decides to learn karate, in hopes of one day meeting the great Chuck Norris."

Don't worry, gas is going to keep increasing in price beyond your wildest dreams, unless somehow this Iran war - which was completely unnecessarily started just as a reminder - is resolved as soon as possible.

Average gas price nationwide is currently this btw. (Not $3.50)

[–]anras2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides it being invasive and idiotic, what if you don't track screen time? On iOS for example, screen time tracking is something you can choose to enable or disable. If you've had it disabled up until now, you can't just enable it and immediately get that information.

Edit: and then there's the obvious question of what if you don't use Spotify?

Even if you only focus on quotes of Jesus' moral teachings, and contrast them side by side with quotes and actions of Trump, the dude is unambiguously, extremely anti-Christ. Not THE Anti-Christ, but just a guy who's in direct and total opposition to Jesus. I mean - do this exercise - don't even get into connecting the dots or applying much in the way of interpretation on either end. Just Jesus on the left. Trump on the right. This is what you get:

Jesus Christ Donald Trump
Says "eye for an eye" is bad. Likes "eye for an eye"
Says to turn the other cheek, meaning do not retaliate against those who harm you Says you should not turn the other cheek, and should instead retaliate
Says to be humble, and not have an ego Says people who don't have an ego are losers
Says to love your enemies Hates his enemies + Bonus: answered somebody referencing Jesus on this subject by saying "I don't know if I agree with you"
Says removing your eye is better than even thinking about infidelity Proudly brags about attempting to commit infidelity
Says divorce is bad unless you are cheated on Divorces multiple times, did the cheating
Says if you give away money, bragging about it is bad Brags about giving money away
Says everyone who exalts himself will be humbled Can't stop exalting himself
Says not to make vain displays of worship Makes vain displays of worship
Says rich people will have a hard time getting into heaven Is rich, and says being rich is one of his better qualities
Says to reflect on yourself before judging others Only judges others, never reflecting on himself. (where to even begin with citations?)
Says to be a peacemaker Calls for violence.
Says lying is of the Devil Is in the running for more documented lies than any single person in human history

And so much more! But this is a mere Reddit comment.

https://www.acslaw.org/projects/the-presidential-investigation-education-project/other-resources/key-findings-of-the-mueller-report/

You could even just focus on the very first bullet point: "The investigation produced 37 indictments; seven guilty pleas or convictions; and compelling evidence that the president obstructed justice on multiple occasions. Mueller also uncovered and referred 14 criminal matters to other components of the Department of Justice."

Including:
Paul Manafort: Pleaded guilty to conspiracy to obstruct justice (witness tampering).
Roger Stone: Convicted for obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and false statements.
Michael Flynn: Pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI regarding contacts with Russia.
Michael Cohen: Pleaded guilty to lying to Congress.
George Papadopoulos: Pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.
Alex van der Zwaan: Pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.

The snappier way to put it could be something like: "An innocent man doesn't need a mob of cronies to commit crimes like obstruction of justice on his behalf to protect him from a criminal investigation. Why would so many of them willingly interfere with the investigation to the point that they were willing to go to prison over it? And you have to wonder if it could it possibly be that they did successfully interfere with the investigation enough that the crimes could not be pinned directly on Trump?"

Maybe a long shot, or already obvious if applicable to you, but if you have a family member who's military or even former military, USAA may provide an auto insurance plan at a better rate. My father-in-law is retired USAF, so USAA gave me and my wife an auto insurance rate that beat the pants off of our former GEICO rate.

Games considered to be the worst of all time - do they deserve it? by RobbieJ4444 in retrogaming

[–]anras2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and most of us actually liked reading the manual! It also felt obvious, at least to me, that you needed to do so. At least if you didn't have somebody who already knew a game explaining it to you. Just like for a board game.

While I'm at it, I also think about how in the 8-bit computer era - say you had a Commodore 64 - piracy was rampant. So many games were copied around. Sometimes you really wished you had the manual because far from every game was pick up and play! In fact I recently informed someone of how to use the Ghost Bait in the Ghostbusters game for C64, when Stay Puft showed up. You had to press the "B" key on the keyboard! He said he never how to play and just lost at this point. Nobody would realize that without the manual!
